Hello we are renovating our house and have bought a second hand kitchen but I’m not sure if I like the colour . Have you painted yours , how did you do it and does it last well ?

I don't think you can beat a professional spraying them for the best finish.
I used a dark Laura Ashley paint on mine which came up reasonably well but you could see my brushstrokes!

I've booked my kitchen respray in and really excited! It's a national company that came back with a very competitive cost (I got 6 quotes) and if they are good I will post back details here.

These guys spray onsite. For anyone that has had a company come in before - do you need to empty every single cabinet? How dusty is the work?

I’d love to know who you used!

Mydogsmellslikewee · 15/11/2025 08:47

We used farrow and ball. Primer and then modern eggshell (I think - what ever they recommend for kitchen cupboards).

That was 5 years ago and we just ripped out the kitchen to replace last month. Not a scratch or scrape on any of it. I had to scrub it quite a lot too, with kids and dogs about the place. It’s all been sat in the skip for the last few weeks, all the knocking about and weather and still no stretches!

We usually use knock off F&B colours, but it was well worth spending the extra money for the real stuff for the kitchen.

I’ll confirm in two weeks when the work is done and I’ll post photos assuming I’m happy with the work😀

And I’ll post back if they are shit just so people can avoid them!

Yes. Did this a couple of months ago. Used Frenchic Al Fresco and it was super easy. I didn’t even take the cupboard doors off.

cleaned thoroughly with sugar soap, took the handles off and went for it with a foam roller.

looks great. It’s not the first time I’ve done it and last time it lasted amazingly well.

Also did tiles that were dark green gloss metro style with the rustoleum tile paint and they have come up brilliantly.

total cost about £40. Took a couple of days including drying time.

I did mine with a roller too. Years ago. I don’t remember taking the doors off either. I’m about to do my mum’s so this is a well timed thread!

I had my kitchen spray painted last week and am posting photos here. It was previously grey and is now white with brown island.

I paid £2,800 for 20 doors and 18 drawers. I got 6 quotes ranging from £2,500 to £5,500.

The guys I used spray painted on site. It's an improvement but we did have a few issues:

  • they did it over 2 days and day 2 definitely felt rushed and I felt they took shortcuts
  • theiy didn't remove the plastic plinth protectors and painted over them. They look terrible and it is still the original grey underneath. They said next time they are in the area they will come back and redo, let's see if they do
  • the spray paint is definitely not as good quality as the original diy kitchen spray. I'd be surprised if the door still look as good as my diykitchen did after 10 years
  • they said to leave everything in the cupboards and they would protect but the spray paint did go everywhere and several cupboards and the contents got sprayed inside including saucepans and toaster which I'm very annoyed about
  • They put the handles back on with wet paint and I was planning on changing the handles but there are marks because the paint was wet so already needs touching up

If I were to make a recommendation, I'd say go for a company that takes your doors away and sprays offside so they don't rush the job a d don't destroy your cupboard contents.

Would I do it again? Definitely an improvement on previous colour but not as good paint quality. I'd rather spend the extra and just change all the doors instead.

Frenchic alfresco has lasted really well. Removed doors and handles. Sugar soaped then light sand and roller the paint on. It was done in a weekend. DCfix vinyl on the worktop which has also lasted really well. I did for a friend. Needed 1.5 tins of Frenchic for a kitchen with approx 18 cupboard doors

Edit ...the kitchen was transformed and looks great

We used same frenchic paint on the tiles and that has also endured well. It's a matt finish which isn't perhaps everyone's taste

Is the frenchic made for painting cupboards?

Put a couple of layers of their finishing coat on the tiles to get a light gloss finish.

@StrongLikeMamma originally it was marketed for outdoor wooden furniture. It is very versatile though! I did my kitchen cupboards, tiles and used it watered down to paint a fabric chair

indoorplantqueen · 24/11/2025 08:10

I had mine professionally sprayed/ painted this year. It was a lovely solid wood kitchen but was a bit scuffed. Went from navy to green and changed the handles to gold. Looks like a brand new kitchen. Cost 1300

cupfinalchaos · 24/11/2025 08:15

We had ours sprayed by someone who sprays colour onto cars. Took the unit doors away to do them. Immaculate.

dailyconniptions · 24/11/2025 09:33

I wrapped mine in DC fix. So much easier and cheaper than painting! I couldn't believe how easily I managed it and they really do look great.
