Hi .
I need to buy TRV for my mums radiators.

She is having a power flush this week .

I was hoping the plumber could add them .
I would give him extra .

But how do I know if I need to buy the ones with all the side valves ..or just the top knob .

There are no temperature valves on there at the moment.

Thank you.

Standard angled valve. The ones you linked to on Amazon will work fine.

This is a particularly good one.

And the lockshield end really is that small.

IMO it is even better than the TRV4, which used to be considered the best.

I wouldn't have much faith in a Plummer who would not supply and fit and leaves it to a baffled customer to source.

Thanks @DavidPeckham and @PigletJohn .

@caringcarer we have got British Gas booked to do it.

Adding the valves is an extra that I want added while they are here.

You have all been very helpful.
I wonder if I could trouble you all with another question !

What actually happens during a PF ? !

My mum is getting a bit stressed out, about not being able to move around the house , go to the toilet , and things .

I can't get there till the afternoon, where I will bring her home food to heat on the stove top.

Is it just tubes everywhere coming out of the radiators ?

Both of us are stressed right now !! .

A couple of large pipes will be attached, probably next to the boiler or (if you have one) the hot water cylinder. An electric pumping machine will run water containing a cleaning chemical vigorously through the pipes and radiators, stopping, starting and reversing to dislodge as much dirt as possible. I suppose about as noisy as a washing machine on spin. The installer will (should) walk round the house turning radiators off and on, and bleeding out air. The machine will filter out and trap sludge. The installer might show you what a lot has been taken out. If you have a small loft tank it ought to be cleaned out and a lid fitted as it will be full of rust and sludge, possibly also bacterial growth or fungus. Depending on the size if your house it might take two or three hours.

The machine will probably be put on the kitchen floor and there may be drips and splashes. If you have a wooden floor cover it it or it may be stained.

The cleaning mixture will then be drained out, and the system refilled with clean water and an anticorrosive chemical to inhibit future corrosion. This ought to be tested every couple of years, and topped up if necessary. The installer will then start up the system, verify that all the radiators get hot, and bleed out any trapped air.

The drained out dirty water can be tipped down a drain, pumped down a WC or released onto the garden. It is not toxic but contains black iron oxide.

If you are having a magnetic filter fitted (I recommend this) it will continue to trap remaining circulating particles over the next few weeks. I recommend inspecting and emptying it yearly. Ask for it to be done during servicing or you be be shown how to do it yourself. There will not usually be much sludge. If, one year, there is a lot, it indicates a problem that needs attention.

@PigletJohn you are a ✨✨✨

They mentioned the filter last time saying the price ..and that they would add it for free....

This time ...the price has gone down and no magnetic filter mentioned !

Ask for it.
