If you have a victorian property what about an antique hall stand?

cluelessinteriors · 28/09/2025 12:18

@BettyTurpinPies Thanks for the tip - I'll ask a carpenter re. hacking it as a potential.

Re. the shoe cabinet, I'm not expecting to fit all of my shoes in it - just the ones I use regularly.

@Dogaredabomb I'm not sure about a coat stand there as the space is so narrow. Also, I'd like closed storage for coats if possible.

Does this item of furniture exist?

I think a narrow shoe cabinet is the easiest option.

This one is 17cm deep - Argos narrow shoe cabinet

The first review is worrying though!

Coat stands tend to take up a lot of room and look messy once you hang things on them.

@cluelessinteriors If you are neat and tidy. I'd put up some hooks and have the Hemnes below it.
The boxes I have are great for slipper-like shoes, but not for boots or sturdy shoes.

Are you planning on having it in front of the radiator?

cluelessinteriors · 28/09/2025 12:49

@limetrees32 I'm planning to get rid of or move the radiator elsewhere.

@cluelessinteriors

This is a great site for inspiration.

Ok , not that it's my business , just trying to understand.
Massive shoe problem in our flat. Partner is constantly buying trainers and we have 10 pairs in their huge black ugliness to accommodate.
They are one of the first things to see when the front door is opened.
Sob..

Thank you @Arregaithel - love these hacks!

@limetrees32 I'm the same as you - I don't want to see clutter as soon as I come through the door.

I'm trying to think of ways to improve storage around the flat e.g. ottoman or chaise with hidden storage, alcove cabinets in the living room, bed with drawers underneath, using some of the ceiling height to make a cupboard etc.
