Is a 6’6” by 8’ 3” a big enough to be considered a bedroom?

I think it’s a fairly good sized box room with enough room for a double bed and a small chest of drawers.

Thoughts?

We have a bedroom not far off that size (it’s probably 7ft rather than 6”6) and we have a triple wardrobe, small double bed and bedside table in it. I think if we changed the layout we could fit a double bed in.

It's the size of my bedroom when I was a kid for some 18 years. I had no trouble.

My youngest daughter is 16 and her room is smaller and has the airing cupboard going into her room from the hall. The actual room is the size of a double bed and nothing else. She has a single and a bedside table.

Bed frames are usually longer than the mattress. Does the short dimension measured to the wall or skirting? I would probably get a double sofa bed and a gold down desk so the room has a use other than for occasional guests. A lot will depend on where the door, window and radiator are. Box shelves on the walls for storage.

I live in a tiny old cottage and my main bedroom (where I sleep) isn't much bigger than that! As long as the bed is in, you get creative with furniture (shelves up high around the walls, storage under the bed, etc). Plus my bed is a small double just so I've got room for a table either side (although one side is squeezed in so tightly that I can't move the bed).

My small room is 6.3x6.8. I can fit a single bed and a small desk. I could fit a double but it would be squashed. Have you thought about a sofa bed or trundle bed. It would only be out for guests?

It would be used as a guest room & it would need a double bed as the guests are a couple.
There are three bedroom houses for sale near us for £500k+ with a third bedroom that is 5’8” by 7’. The estate agent commented that she lived in a similar sized room until she was 19 when commented the room was too small to be used as a bedroom.

as an overnight stay guestroom with a double it would work, but that is all it would be with a double in it

as a single bed bedroom for a child it would work. My room was 6ft 2 x 8ft 9 with a 30 inch bed instead of a 36 "normal" bed, but I had bespoke storage along the non bed wall. I loved its cosy feel but could not live in it now.

I would go with a small double (queen size I think). Most people don’t notice the difference when sleeping but it frees up a fair bit of space.

A small double should really be called a large single. Do not do this unless you know every couple sleeping in it would be happy with that.

My son has a small guest room and they’ve bought a small double. I was worried about sleeping in it tbh as we’re used to a king size but it was fine-far nicer than a sofa bed. The width is 120. His bedroom is 11 by 8 ft and a standard double would swamp the room.

Is just for you on your own. Interested to know if a couple found it ok.
