Induction Hob … yes or no? And worktop advice.

Hi
Can anybody who currently has an induction hob give me some advice/tips/recommendations?
I’m looking to replace a very old kitchen, with a gas hob. I’m moving the hob location and planning to upgrade to an induction hob. I’m not sure which one to buy? Regular or one with built in extraction? Which brand? Any great features I should look out for?
Some friends have advised to keep gas, as the induction hobs are temperamental and don’t work well?
I am confused and need to decide soon.
i am also thinking of 20mm Quartz, is this better/ worse than 30mm?

We had to take our gas hob out when we got a new oven as it clashed at the back. We went for induction and absolutely loved it. We're going to replace it soon and will probably go for Miele or something with the different zones

Only drawbacks... I managed to chip it when a glass worktop saver (chopping board) slid into and chipped the edge. This has gradually got bigger. I've only just found out you shouldn't put something very hot onto the cold glass, though not caused a problem recently

And something entirely my fault this weekend. We have a wobbly pan so put a tea towel under so it doesn't slide about ( I think the fact you can put a cloth under absolutely magic) but used a piece of sweatband instead, not realised it was a bonded with glue fabric. The heat melted the glue , burned and took ages to get off

You can have both - I have a Neff domino gas wok hob right next to my Neff Flexi Induction Hob for the last 13 yrs and haven't had any problems at all.

I share your pain about simmering. Also the fact that it turns itself off if you lift a pan to shake something, or of there is the slightest bit of moisture over the side.

It's impossible to stir fry anything, or do pancakes as the darn thing just turns itself off.

My Neff doesn’t do any of that and is really easy to simmer. It has a dial up to 9 and power boost. I simmer around 4 with a faster simmer around 6.

I bought the AEG on recommendation, I'm not having another. Gas will be the replacement.

Love the fact you can have ours on a timer.
Don't have to watch the pan when making soup, boiling pulses etc

This, for me is the absolute best thing as I'm not very patient pan watcher. The fact you can set the timer and it will switch off is amazing

We went for 20mm quartz as we preferred the look too. As I understand a 30mm is required if you are using the worktop as an overhang for bar stools to make it stronger. We also have a Bora induction hob with down draft extractor and we are very happy with it,

Love my induction. It’s completely different to using electric. If you turn it down or up then it’s instant. Can boil a pan of water in under 2 minutes. Watch Masterchef the professionals and they all have induction hobs. I’d never go back to gas now.

I could have written this! Had gas til I was 65! would never go back, instant heat, instant stop boiling over and a quick wipe over to clean. I think mine is Hotpoint
One tip though, I was a bit. careless with a heavy frying pan lid and chipped a bit off the corner - doesn’t affect it working in any way. I think you might be able to get edge protectors nowadays
