  • solar panels
  • a ‘garden house’ IE a lockdown special outdoor wooden shed dressed up as an office - usually taking up half the garden and completely pointless
  • a neighbour who has a load of cars / shit in their yard - hoarder vibes

who’s next? 3 things that would make you not buy a house…

I'd rule out a property without a proper hall- nowhere for shoes/coats/pram and the lounge (usually) ends up becoming a corridor to the rest of the house.

I'd want a spacious kitchen/dining space, or room to knock through and create one. I'm done after years of playing kitchen tetris in squashed, seperate rooms. I'd like the lounge/living room space to be seperate though.

No to pokey bedrooms- I like plenty of wardrobe space. In fact I'd take a lovely walk-in wardrobe over an en suite any day.

Omg artificial grass yes why oh why!!
and yes to side access to garden. Absolute nightmare having to traipse through the house every time.

also, front door that opens in to living room

I hate front doors that open straight in to the living room too....where do you put your shoes and hang your coats? I need a hallway 😅
Plus when you open the door to the postie he can look in and see what you're doing 😄

Without a bath
with a very small, north-facing garden or no garden at all

but that’s all. I can live without designated parking. I’ve no problem with parking in the next street if necessary.

Theroadt · 24/05/2025 16:41

Shared drive or flying freehold

PoopingAllTheWay · 24/05/2025 16:42

Has any type of water - Pond etc -
(Kids & Water do not mix)

A house that is Over looked (No thanks)

No private parking space / No drive

They are the top 3 BUT i have other wants and needs 😂

  • I would like a utility room with space to hang laundry as well
  • 2 Toilets and atleast one large shower & one large bath

Not to much to ask for right?

Im currently overdrawn and have no savings 😂😂

With … out a bath
With an open plan kitchen / lounge
With a huge expanse of artificial grass

Yes. Agree with these

TheAmusedQuail · 24/05/2025 16:43

Well, presumably the hot tub would go with anyone selling.

BUT a neighbour with a hot tub now... definitely one I'd avoid. AKA a sex pond (and I know someone who used theirs for that 🤮🤮🤮🤮).

TheAmusedQuail · 24/05/2025 16:44

Once looked at a detached house (good size) where they'd turned the ENTIRE and considerably large back garden into a mahoosive pond.

And the bedrooms all had fitted kitchen cabinets (as opposed to fitted bedroom furniture which is bad enough), although no cooker/sink additions. Very very weird.

Wouldn’t buy unless detached
must have front and back garden
must have driveway

Solar Panels and a garden room is in my list of wants, but not if it has a hot tub.

I would reject:
Artificial Grass
Open Plan Living.
Any house built before 2000. “Period features” = difficult to clean and maintain.

golly my house was built in 1990 and has no period features!

Period features pre/2000 omg I feel ANCIENT.

Talk about first world concerns! Many people, including most British under 30s, would just be very grateful for a roof over their heads which they owned.

My thoughts exactly.

non-open plan kitchen. pokey kitchen as a separate room. I would like kitchen dining, possibly also family room together.

Agreed.

I am still Team Open Plan

Aria999 · 24/05/2025 16:50

ours came with a hot tub and I didn't want it, the previous owners didn't want to take it so they ended up giving it to their realtor for his yard!

Bellyblueboy · 24/05/2025 16:50

A shared driveway

A conservatory

Brown PVC windows

yes me too.

I also would actively avoid a house that was going through probate

Why?

Wyr · 24/05/2025 16:51

blueshoes · 24/05/2025 16:51

Why?

Huge delays at the moment in most areas

What's wrong with solar panels?

Inyournewdress · 24/05/2025 16:53

What about a house near a golf course, not near enough to be hit by stray balls (that would obviously be bad!) but are there other concerns re toxicity from pesticides?

Contraryjane · 24/05/2025 16:55

A bus stop outside especially if it served a school or college.

blueshoes · 24/05/2025 16:56

Swimming pool

attached on either side

I don’t get the first 2….you can change those!
