If you were putting a new kitchen in a bungalow to sell...

...what colour would you put in?

Please don't say don't bother - the bungalow has no kitchen right now.

I'm thinking (shiny) white. The rest of the decor is sage/cream/touches of red due to a carpet I have no control over! Am fully aware (my late dad's house) is a doer upper - posted a while ago, got some great advice and will be posting "after" pics soon.

3 bed bungalow, SE coast, we've de-olded it a bit and improved the kerb appeal.

I know in a couple of years people may very well re-model but for now we want it to be clean and nice. Wasn't selling in the state it was. I imagine an older couple would be able to live in it without modelling now so want a kitchen to suit. No integrated stuff involved (apart from oven) just space and plumbing etc.

Thank you - thinking Howdens cheapish white gloss but all ideas will be gratefully received!

I think white's a good idea, but I'd choose matt or satin rather than gloss, which can be a bit in your face.

I hope you're OK after losing your Dad

Screwyoutwat · 28/03/2025 19:45

I wouldn't go white gloss I would go more shaker style.

TennesseeStella · 28/03/2025 19:45

Yes to white, but no to shiny.

Moonshinerso · 28/03/2025 19:45

Agree with everyone else, white but not shiny.

cressidahun · 28/03/2025 19:46

Cream shaker

ohcrikeynotagain · 28/03/2025 19:47

Personally I think cream rather than white as white can be a bit stark. And definitely not gloss

AnnaBalfour · 28/03/2025 19:47

I second cream shaker. Please, no gloss - that wouldn’t fit in with a cottage.

Have a look at Magnet etc for inspiration.

Sulu17 · 28/03/2025 19:49

I would check out what colour is up and coming right now, and then buy that. Amazing the interest an 'on trend' look creates.

MissyB1 · 28/03/2025 19:50

Not gloss! White matt or cream.

rosiebl · 28/03/2025 19:51

Shaker cream, 100%

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 28/03/2025 19:54

If it's a north facing room then cream shaker, any other direction then white shaker. Definitely not gloss!
So sorry for your lossFlowers

Mumwithbaggage · 28/03/2025 19:56

Thanks all - OK, not gloss. I thought white might be brighter, but maybe cream would fit the flow better. Decision time! Personally, I'd prefer cream and I guess bungalow buyers might prefer something less shiny too. It's so not my type of interior but have been working really hard as we very much need to sell.

And thank you @Quacksalver my dad lived a long and happy life - he was 94 and much loved.

Looks like cream shaker on a budget then! One of these days I'll get to glam up my own kitchen!

Plain white, not gloss. It's on the way out. Definitely not shaker. Already out. Pick something very plain so it can be added to to suit any taste.

TooFancyNancy · 28/03/2025 20:02

Definitely agree white or cream, definitely not high gloss though!!

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 28/03/2025 20:03

I’d love a sage shaker style kitchen, but depends on the style of the rest of the house. Cream is probably a safer bet.

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 28/03/2025 20:05

Ikea kitchens are good value.

Mumwithbaggage · 28/03/2025 20:15

I like sage but am now convinced that cream is the way to go. Or sage with cream walls - I'm so indecisive!! Given the demographic, I don't think simpe Shaker is outdated but will obviously keep an open mind. DS and his friend are fitting it so I want to keep it as easy as possible as ds is getting married in July.

Another vote for cream shaker. IKEA are way better quality than Howdens in my experience btw.

Fatrosrhun · 28/03/2025 20:24

Cream shaker kitchen and sage walls would work well. Sage kitchens are nice and fashionable, but cream would have a wider appeal. I’d put a wood effect surface with it.

Mumwithbaggage · 28/03/2025 20:44

Thanks - all duly noted! May need another Ikea trip...

Dove grey

Ilovemyshed · 28/03/2025 20:49

Cream shaker for sure, timeless
