First time ever to market and built by its current owner....how could it be updated but still retaining the features and charm of the 1960s?!

Garden is lovely. House seems a little bit tame for my taste and I love that mid century style generally.

I'm always intrigued by these types of properties though and they really tell a story of generational change. It was probably designed and built by a relatively normal middle class family and now it's a million pounds. Who's going to buy it?

Nellieinthebarn · 08/03/2025 21:23

I really like the house, love the garden. I'd buy it if it was where I wanted to live. Oh, and if it was probably half the price 😂

Tupster · 08/03/2025 21:56

I was expecting something much more interesting from the post. Not really got any distinctive style to it - just dated.

Xiaoxiong · 08/03/2025 22:13

Does anyone know if these were kit homes? There's a whole street of these near me, down to the interior layout (nowhere near Barnt Green).

louderthan · 08/03/2025 22:28

I love it! I'm so drawn to those sorts of houses, I think I lived in one in a previous life and was very very happy there.

IMissSparkling · 08/03/2025 22:30

I love it, especially the garden!

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 08/03/2025 22:32

This reminded me a lot of my grandparents house, looked at the location and it's v similar! Love the light and the space but so ugly from the outside. Really love the interiors though.

FindingMeno · 08/03/2025 22:41

Oh I don't like it at all!

DSquared · 08/03/2025 22:45

I don't think I would use the word amazing to describe this.. if I had nearly a million to spend there are much more amazing options.

Lovely garden but very ugly from the outside.

orangeblosssom · 08/03/2025 22:45

Knock it down and start again?

Nextdoor55 · 08/03/2025 22:46

This house is more 1970's style, very functional looking, everything looks like a block. I don't see that as charming but each to their own.
Garden is nice.
I'd be putting some 1960's wallpaper, big patterns if you want to retain the character of that era. Bright colours but get rid of the fires I think.
I grew up in a house like this in the 1970's. It was painted orange on the outside, red hallway & yellow lounge, green kitchen. Absolute insult to the eyes, but that was the style 😐

FrogsLoveRain · 08/03/2025 22:53

I love it 😍

AprilF00L · 08/03/2025 23:23

I love the house. The light, the square rooms; it feels very calm. Very well looked after/loved.

RhubarbAndMustard · 08/03/2025 23:27

Well this is a marmite house!
It's a big no from me and gives me a really uncomfortable feeling. Maybe because it's giving me a clockwork orange house vibes.

pearbottomjeans · 08/03/2025 23:28

Is that the wrong link OP?! Why does it have those weird panels on the side like a 90s school building - thought that was a council development look (no shade, I live in one of those) rather than a choice by an individual.

It’s v dull inside although I appreciate the big hallway. Utility same size as kitchen!

I think you're the seller op 😆

Look at this website for ideas of how to "present" the house. I don't think it would take a lot of money to make it look absolutely stunning https://themodernhouse.com/

Not much can be done about the outside, I don’t think.

I wouldn’t do much downstairs - all that glorious wood. The big white walls are just asking for fabulous artwork. Change the kitchen cupboard doors. Upstairs needs cosmetic changes.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 09/03/2025 06:24

A million pounds, an exterior so ugly it would make a baby cry and its the arse end of nowhere and needs 100-300k of work.

I'll pass

sageGreen81 · 09/03/2025 06:28

Sadly not the owner, the owner is the person who built it reading the details. I guess it is more marmite from reading the posts.

Something just drew me to it. It's a lot of land.

I love the garden, but really don't like the house!

I fell down some stairs like that as a child, and have had an aversion ever since.

ArmyBarbie · 09/03/2025 06:41

I love it! I always used to be drawn to Edwardian and Victorian houses as I love the exteriors, but more recently I've fallen for the space and light of some of these 60's and 70's homes and begun to ocerlook the quite ugly exteriors. (I live in an Edwardian semi and hate the dark, narrow hall with a passion.)

FondantFancyFan · 09/03/2025 06:49

Search for mid century modern style. That will give you an idea on style updates in keeping with the era but modernising it for 21st C living.

Twiglets1 · 09/03/2025 06:49

Yes I like it a lot though it needs updating.

I know Barnet Green and it’s a very nice & expensive village with a train station and good transport links. Hence the 1M price tag.

MeanderingGently · 09/03/2025 07:06

These threads are interesting as it always amazes me how different our likes and dislikes are.
The house is dreadful! Very 60s both inside and out, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I hate the look and no kerb appeal from the outside.
Garden is OK but nothing special, it's in suburbia from the look of the aerial photo and I'd prefer rural living, the more remote the better.
Wouldn't bother even if you gave it to me for free, really sorry not to feel the love!
