Bathroom layout help

Hi we're fortunate to have recently moved into a house with a large ensuite bathroom.
It is currently dominated by a large walk in shower.

I'm more of a bath person. So I want to add a bath but hubby will still want to shower.

Which layout would you go with.

A. Bath with shower over. Would mean toilet not right opposite when you open the door and less cleaning.

B. separate shower cubicle. Bathroom would feel smaller but I'd fell less crammed in when bathing and wouldn't have to deal with hubby's shower stuff.

I'll add pics of how it currently is and options A and B. Ignore decor and colours as the bathroom planner has limited options.

Do you really want to clean a bath and a shower? I'd keep the shower over teh bath and have a spacious room.

Does the main bathroom have a bath?

We've just done similar.

-If you change the door to open outwards into the hall, you'll save 1m2 of floor space within the bathroom.

-Our room was limited on width, so instead of a traditional bath, we went for a Japanese one which is deeper but takes up less length. We have a friend who is 6ft 7 and he can comfortably sit in it. Rather than laying down, its more of a recliner position with jets etc. Other brands do them, but we got ours from here.

Yes but it's a completely impractical tiny slipper bath and is miles from my dressing room.

That was definitely one of my thoughts as I hate cleaning shower drains.

Ah I'm the opposite there on the cleaning. I always think shower baths get soap scum on and I feel I have to clean them before having a bath. Whereas a stand-alone bath is clean and ready to jump into

Yes in your house with the soil stack in that corner, and the window in the middle, I’d swap it round so bath is on the left as you come in and shower and loo on the right. The loo cistern can be boxed in next to the soil stack boxing in and you can have a cupboard above the cistern, will hide the stack nicely.
This may involve moving the door over though…

Agreed, that is pretty much what I'm planning, including the boxing in. I'm just not sure if it is too cramped.

It isn't actually a door, it is a corridor down to the door, and can't be moved. Does make it feel more spacious though, and the radiator is currently in that corridor area.

We are redoing the ensuite atm and I had the new toilet in position in the main bathroom, plus cardboard to make the shower screen etc.
But still difficult to tell as the existing sanitary wear was also still in place.

Ah, I can see that too 🙈

Maybe I'll just ban hubby from the ensuite 😂

@Chasingsquirrels so how big would the shower be - that’s the bit that’s potentially cramped right?

magicstar1 · 03/03/2025 16:00

Do you have to have a cubicle? Can the room be tanked out instead? We did that and it's so much better and easier to use.

Shower would be 800 (coming out into the room) x 900 or 1000 (along the wall towards ths toilet). I think that is fine, it is the toilet area and access I'm more concerned about.

Which software or website are you using for the pretty pictures?
