Kerb appeal help desperately needed please!

We need to sell my late dad's house asap - long boring story but it's costing us far too much money. Trying to get away from the elderly looking image. The inside is being addressed but I am absolutely lacking inspiration when it comes to kerb appeal. It has zero right now. Great sized plot at the end of a cul-de-sac but the front is so dull. If I put pots by the front door it blocks garage access - maybe that doesn't matter for selling?? Any (cheap) bright ideas very gratefully received! I'm not going to the expense of resurfacing the drive. This is one of the eastate agent's rather rubbish pictures. Will be changing agents after we have updated it. Thank you!

I'd agree with PPs. If it's costing you such a lot, just reduce the price and get it gone!

if a clean new kitchen and a bit of vinyl gets people in and looking it's worth spending.

Its not. It’s a total waste of money and resources to put in a cheap kitchen and cheap flooring that someone is going to have to rip up.

I don’t think it looks to bad, to be honest. As others have said, a nice pot of colourful plants. you don’t need to spend a lot.

@Mumwithbaggage I do feel for you.

If it is of help , from experience , when we sold my FIL's house it really was a doer upper. What we did was have the driveway jet washed , any weeds removed and the lawns cut - to make sure that it did not look like it had lots of work needed on the outside - it looked neat and maintained . Inside we had it cleaned throughout and the carpets cleaned ( even though they would be thrown away ) but it smelled fresh . We did discuss decorating - a new bathroom etc but in the end decided we would be spending more money than we might get back ( when I say we I mean DH and his siblings ) and priced it accordingly for a doer upper. Also had an Open day for sales. It sold quickly ( I think we were lucky in that it sold to a family where the DH was a builder so not scared of work. )

I would be wary of spending money if it already a money pit - I would do as much as you need and reduce the price as far as you are comfortable with - But that is just my experience.

Dont spend more money doing big things. Bit of pressure washing and weeding to entice people and lower the price. Always the price.

RunningJo · 03/02/2025 15:24

I agree with the pressure washing of the outside concrete areas, and weeding / mowing the lawn.
I wouldn’t bother changing the blinds or any decorative bits inside, but I would make sure it’s clean and fresh. So clean carpets, wipe paintwork etc

good luck - hope you find a buyer soon 🤞🏻🏠
