Help - I hate my new bath!

I’m after practical advice here as we’ve just spent a lot of money on a bathroom refit but my new bath is awful; it looks beautiful and we tried loads out, worked out measurements for comfort etc, but as it turns out, it’s perfect for my husband but I’m too small and cannot get comfortable in it. I’ve tried a make-shift bath pillow, but I’m still not tall enough and it’s just a horrible experience as I’m trying to keep myself from slipping down constantly. Can anyone help or am I going to have to suck it up and aim to replace it???

I have the same problem with almost every bath. Would something like this help?

(It's expensive but was the first one I came across, I'm sure there are more economical versions)

Could you use something like this to at least stop you slipping:

A clear one would be quite unobtrusive. I feel your pain - as a fellow shortie I often have the same issue!

SpringBunnyHopHop · 01/02/2025 17:10

I had the same problem with mine but I very quickly got used to it.

exitstrategyideas · 01/02/2025 17:11

Yes they may help!! I was going to buy a decent bath pillow but I just ran a bath and my husband made me one out of a towel and I had to get out and shower instead. It’s such a first world problem but I’m devastated; it’s so disappointing when you spend so much time and money! I’m not even that short (5ft5) but the bath is biiiiig and we purposely went for one with a deep measurement inside as the smaller ones made my husband feel squashed. Irrationally, it’s making me hate him 🤣

This is why I’m always the person being stared at in bath showrooms, climbing into display models! An uncomfortable bath is a crime!

I’m not sure I can as I literally cannot sit in it without ending up underwater, so unless I’m gonna get in and out (which is a waste of water), it’s unusable for me 😭

I did this 😭 but we rationalised that the main comfort issue was it being too small for my husband. It didn’t really occur to me that a full bath has no traction so if I can’t reach the end, I can’t sit in it

I've had this! I bought a sticky traction thing to go on the bottom so my arse has something to grip to. And it helped me get up. I've had it with baths though. They are either too long or too deep or a pain.

Shwish · 01/02/2025 17:21

A bath mat will stop you slipping? One of those rubber things that sit on the bottom. They're ugly though so you'd probably want to take it out when not in use.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 01/02/2025 17:33

.

RIPVPROG · 01/02/2025 17:36

Bend your knees and put your feet on the bottom?

TeddyBeans · 01/02/2025 17:37

On the same vein as @IDareSay but would a toilet step be enough to push against so you don't slip? Would be a very cheap solution if it would work

xyz111 · 01/02/2025 17:44

I don't take baths but I know what you mean. I was so set on having a water birth, but I just kept sliding around all over the place in the pool so I got annoyed and got out 🤣

Guiltypleasures001 · 01/02/2025 17:46

Can you stick a couple of those head cushions along the bottom of the bath
Eg bum against one and another with your heels against it ?

ERthree · 01/02/2025 17:52

Amazon do 2 wedge shaped inflatable cushions with suction pads for £11, they are meant for hot tubs so should work for your feet at the bottom of the bath.

RandomMess · 01/02/2025 17:55

For anyone looking to purchase a large bath look and the soaking tub/Japanese ones as they are short but very deep & comfortable regardless of height.

Elodie09 · 01/02/2025 17:59

I know, first world problems but we also had a very "unfriendly" bath once when we moved to a new place.
It was deep, scooped in a weird way shape and so uncomfortable.
I looked up
"something to make a bath shorter " and there is something called a bath shortener . Around £45.

Not sure whether this is a sensible suggestion but other than a foldable pop up bath to put inside your bath I am stuck for ideas for you. sorry!

GoldMoon · 01/02/2025 18:02

And me . Now have a separate bath & shower and whilst it looks lovely ( Freestanding and bath alone was over £1200 )
It's too long and uncomfortable.

Maray1967 · 01/02/2025 18:03

Is it 1700mm long? Our bathroom fitter advised us to get a 1500mm as DH only has showers and I’m 5ft 4.

If it is, then you’ll need to embrace one of the suggestions above as you’ll always be sliding down it.

PennyPencils · 01/02/2025 18:06

Following with interest as I have the same issue. Heartbreaking as I love a bath so much but it's not worth the water if its not enjoyable.

I have been looking at bath pillows online and dont want to waste my money so I'm very keen to see what works for others before i SPLASH out on one 🤪

Sorry

Elodie09 · 01/02/2025 18:11

I'm invested in this now!
How about - The Babydam bath water barrier? £35.99.
It is to help when you bathe a little one in a huge bath, saves water so another plus.

Boutonnière · 01/02/2025 18:55

We installed some anti slip strips years ago, after I had surgery, and needed to feel secure on my feet using the over bath shower. I can’t believe how well they have lasted, very low profile and quite subtle but very effective and have the unexpected side benefit of stopping my similar slither downwards in the bath - we, too , bought a bath to suit my 6’1” husband without realising the effect it would have on 5’ 4” me.

TheBunyip · 01/02/2025 19:03

I’m 5”5 and am currently wallowing in my 180xm bath.

my feet are against the end and my head and shoulders are resting on the back of it with the water just below my ears. Are you sure you can’t adopt a more reclined position and finely tuned water level to discover heavenly bathing pleasure? I love a bath. I’ve been here for an hour 🛁

exitstrategyideas · 01/02/2025 19:59

Ok so I’ve ordered a bath pillow (for my head and shoulders) and a non slip mat which I’m going to put at my feet end for traction. I’ll report back when I’ve tested them out! I got really upset before and my husband feels terrible and said if they don’t then he’ll do some reading and solve it.

To the poster who suggested bending my knees so my feet rest on the bottom - this doesnt work due to lack of traction but hopefully a non slip mat underneath will help.

My last option will be a bath shortener. I’ve seen a lovely acacia wood one for just under £200 which I’ll invest in (or guilt my husband into buying) if I really have to!

I have the same issue with the lovely slipper bath in the house we moved to. I use the kids non slip bath mat and for it so it makes a kind of ridge under my bum! I’m sure you’ll find a solution OP. I was similarly gutted after a very stressful few days moving and getting into the bath I had been dreaming of for months!
