Alonside redoing the heating system we're going to put in a new bathroom in our teeny tiny bathroom.

Honestly, it's tiny! There's room for a bath, sink, floorspace for one bathmat and that's it! You open the door, take one step and then the second step is into the bath! (No toilet, that's next door).

I'd like to put a shower in but DD loves a bath so I guess I need a small bath with a decent shower in it. Also I'm thinking for resdale it needs a bath as it's a family home and everyone needs a bath if they have small DC don't they?

Do you have a seriously tiny bathroom? Any tips - or pictures of yours or any others you like - much appreciated :)

Your bathroom sounds a bit like ours, we also have a seperate toilet. I would recommend shower panels around the bath rather than tiles to stop nasty grout and a really good fan. If you can fit a shower bath in, get one as it gives you extra space to shower. A wall mounted basin/vanity means you have no pedestal and will make it feel a little more spacious and a vanity means that all of the clutter can be hidden too. Small bathrooms look cluttered with bottles of lotions and potions everywhere.

Could you knock the wall down between the bathroom and toilet? Would give more floor space.

Good ideas, thanks. Last time I did a bathroom wall panels weren't really a thing! Off to look at some.

We have a bath that’s wider at the shower end and narrow at the other end. Works perfectly as it’s mostly smaller people who bath (ie not DH).

I have thought about it but I'm not sure it'd work.

Although the toilet and bathroom share a wall, the floor in the toilet is lower as it's half way up the stairs where as the bathroom is off the landing, and so we'd need to put in a new floor for it. And I'm not sure it'd really work because of the placement of the windows and how narrow the space is.

It's all a bit tricky!

My bathroom (& whole house) is tiny, I will take a pic now!

We have a wall-mounted basin and a narrow bath (fine for kids, just about ok for adults) with shower at one end. The previous owner tiled the entire room in white though, which I wouldn’t recommend as it looks very clinical and is a pain to keep the grout clean. We also put in a more powerful fan.

StarDolphins · 31/01/2025 22:20

It’s very small, a one person at a time kind of bathroom!

edited to add it’s bigger than my kitchen though🤣

Looks nice :) And, positively roomy compared to ours!!

Here's the floor plan from when we moved in. We moved it around a little when we moved in though, about a decade ago.

Here's a rubbish diagram of what it's like now. The blue thing is the bath. The brown thing is a shelf. The orange thing is a bath mat!

It's properly tiny!!

This is what a neighbour with the same layout has done. I'm really not sure about losing a bath completely though.

I would personally keep the bath too.
Do you need a shelf? Would one fit under your sink?
Not having the shelf there might open up the room a bit.

The shelf was just to fill in the space because the bath wasn't as long as the room. Definitely not essential at all.

When I renovated mine, I pored through bath catalogues and found the smallest one that was fairly deep and that would allow central taps. It meant I could fit a bath where previously there was just a toilet and sink. We now have a teeny sink under a cabinet so it's hard not to headbut the cabinet when I brush my teeth, but I try my best.

I reckon I could fit at least 2 of us in there! I wish my bathroom was that big!

Thanks so much for sharing the pic, it's helping me visualse! Did you get someone in to do all of it or did you do any of it yourself? I'm wondering if those wall panels are easy to fit?

Or am I being silly and it's just something a professional should do if you want a good job?

But you have a bath & loo and how much time is spent in here?! It doesn't need to be big! No one needs to spend longer than 10 mins in there! I bet my kitchen trumps yours in the tiniest comp!😆 I def wouldn’t get rid of the bath!

StarDolphins · 31/01/2025 23:27

What’s under the shelf? Could you make this into a tiny cupboard like I have?

UnderTheStairs51 · 31/01/2025 23:27

I switched the way the door opens on mine. Was previously into the room but now opens to left so is against the wall.

Made a big difference to the feel of the space. Worth considering if you are the same.

I don't really care it lacks floor space. I have two slim wall mounted mirror cabinets and storage under the sink with drawers which are very handy.

It fits a lot in considering how small it is (but I only have a shower - it was an awful wet room when we got it but would originally have had a bath).

UnderTheStairs51 · 31/01/2025 23:36

Sorry I missed the diagram. How wide is it?

What about a Japanese soaking tub across the bottom (the wall that meets the toilet room wall).
Short but deep. Like this

My bathroom is exactly the same size / layout as yours . Even worse, it's downstairs. One thing I would say is that last time we had it redone I insisted on us having a bath with shower over rather than a walk in shower and I regret it. I don't have young children though so maybe it's different.

pizzaHeart · 01/02/2025 00:09

Can you post dimensions for both bathroom and toilet?

Is it climbing over the bath wall annoying? Is it that you regret?

I'd be happy with a shower but DD hates them and it seems unfair on her to get rid of the bath completely. She's not young though, she's nearly 12. Maybe I ned to chat to her about whether it's negotiable!

But also I thought for resale value it would be harder to sell as a family house without a bath, what do people think? We're right by the primary schools everyone wants their DC to go to so it's an area that young families move into typically. No plans to move any time soon, but you never know...

In principle, yes. Just got to remember where I put the tape measure...

It's just dead space under there at the moment.

We have a shower over the bath and it's fine. DP is a bather, I'm a showerer, and it's no biggy to step in.
