Alonside redoing the heating system we're going to put in a new bathroom in our teeny tiny bathroom.

Honestly, it's tiny! There's room for a bath, sink, floorspace for one bathmat and that's it! You open the door, take one step and then the second step is into the bath! (No toilet, that's next door).

I'd like to put a shower in but DD loves a bath so I guess I need a small bath with a decent shower in it. Also I'm thinking for resdale it needs a bath as it's a family home and everyone needs a bath if they have small DC don't they?

Do you have a seriously tiny bathroom? Any tips - or pictures of yours or any others you like - much appreciated :)

I reckon I could fit at least 2 of us in there! I wish my bathroom was that big!

Thanks so much for sharing the pic, it's helping me visualse! Did you get someone in to do all of it or did you do any of it yourself? I'm wondering if those wall panels are easy to fit?

Or am I being silly and it's just something a professional should do if you want a good job?

Edited

I got someone to do it. I bought the wall
tiles from b&q then I got a locsl
plumber to do the rest. He provided the bath, loo, vanity etc & it was £3700 inc everything inc ceiling panels & lights. Then I bought an off cut of flooring for £48 from eBay & got a local guys to fit & he charged £30!

Edited to fix typos, along with my teeny bathroom, I’m a teeny bit tipsy🤣

Also, on the way out, I stand in the bath, dry one foot and leg, pop that on the floor then dry the other resting on the side of the bath. It never occurred to me that it was problematic! Ask me in 20 years time though....

Redrosesposies · 01/02/2025 00:23

My bathroom is just under 6ft each way so enough room for toilet then small sink, then a shower bath (p shaped with a curved screen so more elbow room). We reduced the window size so the shower wouldn't splash on the cill.
We turned the door round to open against the wall and it has shiny white tiles and two massive mirrors. It looks much, much bigger than next door who have matt grey tiles and a tiny mirror.

Sorry I missed the diagram. How wide is it?

What about a Japanese soaking tub across the bottom (the wall that meets the toilet room wall).
Short but deep. Like this

My bf has this type of thing in his flat, it's higher than a normal bath side and a PITA to get into and out of for the shower. You'd really need a little step, which there presumably isn't room for!

So ours isn’t as teeny tiny as yours, but if you imagine ours but without the loo off to the side, it may not be far out? We have shower over bath, and specifically sought out a bath that has quite a deep volume and good internal width so you can actually get a lot of water in there, plus it’s more spacious to stand in.
The shower screen is brilliant and folds neatly in half back on itself so it is tidy and out of the way, not looming in the room, but is big enough for showering properly.
The sink is a floating vanity unit one - def makes the room feel more spacious BUT beware you can’t actually fit as much in the drawers as it looks like you can, because of the big sink waste in the middle. Worth checking them out in person.

Can you post dimensions for both bathroom and toilet?

OK, so the bathroom is 7' x 4' and the toilet is 4' x 3'.

Properly tiny!

That looks lovely! Where did you get your tiles?

I like the folding shower screen, that looks handy.

Yes, with such a small bathroom floor I reckon I can really splash out on some nice flooring as it only needs to cover a tiny area! An offcut would be a great idea.

Have fun with the tipsiness! Grin

I’m not being arsey but if you want to think about redoing layout you need to post floor plan with dimensions including where the doors and windows are. It makes real difference for planning, preferably in metric as well.

This is the shower screen: https://www.qssupplies.co.uk/bathroom-furniture-shower-taps/91753.htm

Yours is narrow, but if you have a 70cm wide bath, you can have a 45cm or maybe 50cm wide sink next to it, in your 4ft width - at least the bath can be long!

I've posted a floor plan upthread - here it is again. I can't get any more measurements now as I don't want to wake the house up.

The windows are going to be an issue with the shower whatever we do. I don't think we can solve it by moving the shower out of the way of the window as there simply isn't room to do that, so we'll have to do something to protect the window instead I think.

Unless we do knock through to the toilet. But then the shower would be up against the window in that wall anyway.

The windows and doors are already marked. I've added the radiator (pink) and the sink in the toilet (purple). Also I'd never noticed before, that floor plan was wrong as the door actually opens outwards in the toilet so I've corrected that.

Oh, it does look like we'd get more space after all if we knocked through to the toilet. We could have a decent sized bath with a shower then! (I've made it bigger in the picture).

We'd have to raise the floor quite considerably in the toilet though.

I'm wondering if we can do something like this with the window so it's not a problem if it's basically part of the shower.

Before and after pics (from Houzz).

If you take down the wall to make one room you wouldn't actually need the second window. You could put the bath against current toilet wall/window. Raising the floor feels like a nuisance but you can lay new floor over pipes and then plumbing might be easier.

Pfpppl · 01/02/2025 08:51

In your diagram where you've knocked through it doesn't look like you'd have enough room to actually get round the toilet. But if you can figure out a way to make knocking through work (maybe a shorter p bath), I'd brick up the toilet window on the outside and have a couple of niches on the inside for storing bottles. That's assuming the existing bathroom window would give enough light.

Negroany · 01/02/2025 11:00

As my bathroom is small, some space is stolen from the room behind in that the cistern for the loo and some other pipework are in the cupboard through the wall. This means the loo is further back in the bathroom.

Yeah, when I was getting mine done I was looking for ideas for small bathrooms and I didn't see one picture of one that was less than twice the size of mine!

WonderingWanda · 01/02/2025 11:13

Maybe a drastic option but could you get your stairs reversed? Then you could pinch some space over them?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 01/02/2025 11:31

@partyplanningseason
I regret the bath as I've not actually used it as a bath since we had it put in 3 years ago. We have a cupboard over one end of it which is rather larger than we expected it to be and I'm a bit concerned about lying underneath it. Also bath has very narrow edges and there's nothing to grab hold of to push myself up out of it. And because it's quite high sided there is likely to become a point where clambering over it to shower becomes difficult so it will need replacing at some point in the future anyway.

If I was you with a young family then yes I probably would still go for a bath - but I would make sure I actually looked at the items in store and checked measurements with the actual bathroom rather than order what was on offer on the internet which is what we did .

I lived in a rented flat with a tiny bathroom for a year. It had a very small bath with a shower over, which was a very good compromise! It wouldn't suit everyone but if it's only your DD who takes baths, it might work for you.

A 1200mm bath would fit along your short wall, so would make the bathroom feel much less cluttered/cramped and also wouldn't be under the window.
