How much to tip removal men

Completing on a house tomorrow. We've got the full packing service. Guys were here yesterday, they've almost finished packing up, just got beds to dismantle and load last few items on the van, drive us over then reassemble furniture and unload. They've honestly been bloody great how much should we tip them?

£20 each here as well, which we have other foreman at the end of the day to divvy up.

DH did removals work as a student and said he was always so grateful for any tips as it is bloody hard work!

Jesus. Why? You went to Greggs for them?? You don’t think they brought their own lunch and drinks? “they were incredible” There is nothing incredible about wrapping and packing stuff. I can only presume that it’s such an alien thing for middle class people to see someone do a few hours of non stop manual work that that they feel very guilty and feel the need to over compensate.

Just Bizarre.

I would agree with this. It's so strange.

I'm another one who has never tipped removal men. They were paid the amount that they quoted. They were pleasant and did a good job. However, it was not cheap and paying extra for the service was not something that occurred to me.

I don't live in the UK, and don't imagine anyone would even think of tipping them here. They are being paid to do a job, like other people who no-one would bother to tip. I didn't think tipping was part of UK life, and yet there are often threads about tipping hairdressers, binmen etc.

I am a prolific tipper, drives my DH up the wall but it wouldn't occur to me to tip removal men. We haven't used them before but if we do, now I know to and I will.

AaaahBlandsHatch · 03/01/2025 12:22

Nothing. I was quoted an (enormously expensive) fee for the job, agreed that fee, and paid it.

I too am really good at my job, finish tasks quickly, go above and beyond, and am friendly and cheerful to everyone I work with/for. And guess what? Nobody ever gives me any extra money other than what I'm contracted to get.

Mumlaplomb · 03/01/2025 12:25

Gosh I didn’t know this was a thing. We have used them twice and I just paid the fee quoted (which was high in both cases).

Doris86 · 03/01/2025 12:49

Same here. You already pay them to provide a service, why do people then feel the need to pay them more money just because they provided the service they were supposed to?

I finding the culture of tipping bizarre.

What a patronising comment. We did our own packing, dh is as working class as they come and they went over and above for us. My ds had taken his own life 7 weeks previously and I appreciated their kindness.
So fuck off.

I’m so sorry about your DS. 💐 and well done with telling the PP to ‘fuck off’
