We are about to start our kitchen renovation in a square area of 5m x 5m. part of this space is an extension to the existing kitchen. I am hoping to have an island of size 2.4m x 1.2m. Please may I know what your kitchen are must haves and any mistakes you have done.

Make sure a plumber does your pipe work. A friend had a swanky kitchen fitted for an eye watering price tag. The fitter they sent did everything and used plastic joiners to take the water outside. A month later in cold weather it froze and when it warmed up broke and their new kitchen was drenched. I’m sure they sorted it but who wants the hassle?

Lots of sockets, including on the island.

Don't have an induction hob. Have gas with 5 burners.

No integrated appliances.

Underslung sink.

A bank of units only deep enough for one appliance. I thought I'd hate these but they are brilliant, so easy to get your appliances out.

Eye level double oven.
