Loaf sofas - do you have one?

I’m seeing such conflicting info online. Some say to avoid like the plague, others say they are hard to beat comfort wise. We will be visiting one of their showrooms at some point but the sales assistants are unlikely to admit to any negatives!

Hi. I went to see them two years go as they look delicious. But they are quite uncomfortable to sit on, low to the ground. You see lots of them on FB Marketplace, so that tells a story I think.
We went with sofa.com but sofa is already ruined, despite spending 2.5k on it. The quality is just awful.

Wishitsnows · 06/10/2024 20:47

They are handmade and really good quality.

LadyCakehole · 06/10/2024 20:48

I've only ever heard negative things about Loaf furniture and the adverts I've seen for second hand sofas all look very saggy and misshapen. I used to really want one myself but I'm put off now.

HappierTimesAhead · 06/10/2024 20:51

No personal experience but I think they look like they would sag and move about as you sit on them. Plus they are designed using all manner of unforgiving fabrics and colours.

I wanted to love them and went to a showroom several times but I found them too soft and low to the ground. Having not had much luck with expensive sofas over the years we’ve bought an Ikea sofa with covers from Bemz, who have a lovely selection of fabrics.

mynameiscalypso · 06/10/2024 20:59

I had a similar experience of going to a showroom and not liking them. I really wanted to but they just all looked saggy and very hard to get in or out of.

Pampampam · 06/10/2024 21:06

We had one. It was a disaster. Very expensive, looked old and saggy after a few months & the cushion covers always seemed to look dirty (despite being royal blue) and shrank when dry cleaned. We eventually replaced it with a cheap and cheerful DFS sofa which still looks good as new after 6 years. Wouldn’t recommend.

The same could be said for our ex-Loaf bed.
A Marie Antoinette style bed with cream canvas fabric on the headboard that stained with DH's greasy head.
He's never looked, felt or smelled greasy, but the headboard told a different story. We had it 12 years, the Loaf bed, but it was a pain in the arse creaking the last couple of years and before that, never very relaxing.

Watermelonsregularly · 06/10/2024 21:10

Love mine. Clever velvet is an amazing fabric. Everything has cleaned off of it.
4 years in, same as the day we got it.

ChefsKisser · 06/10/2024 21:13

We absolutely love ours! Have had it 5 years and still looks great and get lots of compliments. It’s a pale fabric and has survived 2 small kids! I know what you mean as they do need plumping back up to look nice but I love it!

ReadyfortheUnknown · 06/10/2024 21:15

Hello! Mine is too low to the ground and not very comfortable to sit on. Regretted buying it almost immediately, but as it was so expensive it will be a while before we can replace it... the fabric is quite nice though.

mug2018 · 06/10/2024 21:24

My brother has a couple of loaf sofas - they are really uncomfortable to sit on. Very low and the seats are quite deep so it's difficult to sit back
They also have to puff up the seats everyday which is a proper workout 😆
Very expensive, look lovely but I wouldn't buy one

friskybivalves · 06/10/2024 21:32

We had a loaf. Looked lovely, and we chose it after lolling all over it at the showroom but my god we all hated it.

Only useful for one person to lie on as if a bed.

Otherwise, for sitting in, it was just too low and too deep. So you either had to perch on the edge with ridiculous straight back posture like dowager lady grantham, RIP, from Downton Abbey. Or you had to sit all the way at the back with your legs sticking out in front like a toddler in nursery class. Equally ridiculous.

We sold it on and got a brill west elm replacement.

Evenstar · 06/10/2024 21:36

DS bought one, it was ridiculously low as per PP only comfortable for one person lying down. It only lasted about 2 years and the fabric wore badly.

TheDayBeforeYouCame · 06/10/2024 22:20

We love ours but we never sit bolt upright on it, we like the fact that it's deep so we can tuck our feet up. It's really comfy. You do need to plump up the cushions but that is true of lots of sofas. So I would say it depends how you prefer to sit.

TheNiftyHedgehog · 06/10/2024 22:21

I had one and sent it back. It was so uncomfortable - hard and the fabric was scratchy.

Loaf customer service is appalling too.

minisomum · 06/10/2024 22:24

We went to the showroom today as I wanted to look at beds but we did try a few sofas as well. The only one that was even vaguely comfortable was the Bagsie - everything else
was far too deep and low.

CyclingAddict · 06/10/2024 22:25

Try sofa.com

sugarbyebye · 06/10/2024 22:27

We've had ours for a few years, it's lovely. It's a velvet in a bright orange colour and is surviving well despite two dogs and two cats having free reign on it. I like low, deep sofas to lounge on. The cushions do need plumping every week or so.

Try sofa.com

Don’t do this. Their service and aftercare is diabolically bad.
Also had to replace the seat cushions (went to a furniture maker) after about six months.

Never again.

Autumn1990 · 06/10/2024 22:39

Sofa sofa are good, not to expensive, last fairly well.

HellsBells67 · 06/10/2024 22:54

I second sofa sofa. Bought two large Alabany sofas and spare covers three years ago, look like new and very comfortable. Really not expensive either.

Agree. We just had a major screw fall out, the feet are really wobbly, the smart velvet fabric is gone in two (non used) spots. Aftercare is rubbish.

Dazedandconfused170 · 06/10/2024 23:15

I had one and it sagged and dipped after only owning it a short while
It was as if it was made just to look nice rather than actually sit on..

Was a whole ordeal to get a refund but did eventually. Wouldn’t recommend tbh

DoAhhDiddy · 06/10/2024 23:20

We have a bed from Loaf and wouldn't buy furniture from them again.
