We don't have hive plus so just a standard schedule. DH has set a schedule TW here it's at a minimum of 19 degrees at all times. Even overnight. 🙈

That was mine except set to 15 at night.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 02/10/2024 09:57

18 from 0630 to 1700
19 from 1700 to 2000 so it's a bit warmer for bathtime for the little ones
15 overnight

Edited to add that I'm currently on mat leave and when I'm not I WFH - if we were more consistently out during the day we'd probably drop it down to 17.

MargotMoon · 02/10/2024 10:05

This is mine atm, weekdays. Times are a bit different on the weekend but roughly the same temp and hours on.

If I'm wfh I will boost it for a couple of hours if it gets chilly but mostly use my heated blanket to keep warm.

19 overnight is awful. I wouldn't be able to sleep. Bedrooms are supposed to be 18 for sleep. Mine is on 18 during the day, I wfh but layer up, It's at 19.5 in the evening and 15 overnight.

BakedBeansforabrain · 02/10/2024 10:25

Why do you need the heating on when you are in bed at night, it bonkers to me

lololulu · 02/10/2024 10:26

Is this too much?

DDs have asked me to put it on higher for after school and for shower time 😬😬

I know 30 is high but they are 12 and 14 and won't get out of bed otherwise.

KeepinOn · 02/10/2024 10:28

We are about to get Hive fitted, would you say it's saved you money overall?

Totally!! I was wondering if the menopause had started as I was dripping with sweat overnight!!

We don't. We never have had it on overnight ever.

The reason I'm posting is that we're having a disagreement about it.

Obviously heat is a personal thing, but also the heating mechanisms.

For our needs and mechanisms, low and slow works best. We have the heating thermometer set at 18c all day all year.

lololulu · 02/10/2024 10:31

If you use the app how long goes it usually take for the temperature to change?

I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.

If you are on a schedule and change it will it change?

Will the schedule automatically restart?

I would say so. We're more likely to adjust the schedule and our old controller didn't have as much flexibility. Yiu could only set it to on or off a limited number of times during the day.

At 30c?! That's beyond insane. Even my mum, who likes to cook herself at 25c at all times, would agree that's far far too hot. And an appalling waste.

Does the house even get to that temperature in that time?

Yes this is also important. It is why ours is now set to 15 overnight, rather than any lower, as my heating engineer told us our new boiler is more efficient if it never gets really cold.

No I get notifications that I'm over all the time.

I don't know how it saves you money as you still use the heating as you would before?

😳 that is pretty crazy! Is there even any point in the 10 degree setting?! I don't think my Victorian draughty house is as low as that ever.

No hive but mine is
18c for an hour in the morning when I'm getting up
18c for a couple of hours in the evening

Off otherwise (frost protect kicks in below 5c)
So basically "on" for 3hrs a day

Why isn’t it a case of ‘get out of bed or else x’ rather than having the heating set hotter than nursing home levels?

Caspianberg · 02/10/2024 10:41

Roughly:
6.30-7.30am -20 c
7.30am-5pm- 18-19c depending on rooms
5-8pm - 20c

16 c overnight.

A) we work from home so someone is home all day
b) Ds is home by lunchtime from nursery
c) it’s down to -10/-15 often overnight where we live and snows so temp drops too low overnight if off and takes ages to warm back up again

We boost it warmer daytime if just sitting around at weekends or guests over. A few lesser used rooms stay at 18

lololulu · 02/10/2024 10:45

Oh god I'll change it

shockeditellyou · 02/10/2024 10:54

We had one of those smart thermostats and had almighty rows about it - I was waking up dripping with sweat as it tried to cook us in the middle of the night. For some reason it was coming on to 19 at 3 in the morning, because it thought it would take 4 hours to get up to 19C at 7am in the morning.

Eventually we lobotomised it. It's not allowed to think for itself and we have a standard heating schedule - 21 in the morning, then 19 all day before a boost in the evening. At no point has it saved us money.

We also have UFH so we do keep it ticking over slightly higher overnight than otherwise.

Bagualious · 02/10/2024 10:56

Pretty much the same as @Caspianberg warmer when everyone is getting out of their warm beds and will be showering and getting dressed. Slightly less throughout the day, always someone here and we know to layer clothing.

It goes down to the night setting just before we go to bed but we have electric blankets to make the bed toasty and good quality duvets but if the temp drops below 16 degrees then the heating kicks back in to keep it at 16.

If anyone is feeling cold during the day then we boost the temp. We do open windows in the morning for some fresh air which can cool the house. We bought a thermal camera a couple of years ago to tackle all the draughts we knew we had.
