How popular is Rightmove?

That's it really.
When we first got our estate agent round to do a valuation, he talked the talked.

However, one thing he did say was that he didn't think Rightmove was the best portal to use. He said used it only as a last resort, and used other portals first, because "People just browsing use Rightmove, but actual serious buyers search on Zoopla and OntheMarket, etc." Both DH and I queried this at the time, as we thought Rightmove was more popular. But the EA won is over (as well as assuring is that he already had plenty of people on his books that he would call); we trusted him, as we thought the EA knew best (naive yes, but this is our first house selling).

Anyway, we're now week number 4 into selling, and we have put our feet down and insisted he add our listing onto Rightmove (which he originally told us he would do after 3/4 weeks, as the last resort, so this is what he agreed with us anyway).

During this time, we have had only one viewing last week. So we went live on Rightmove today.

It just made me think/wonder how popular Rightmove is. We are not proceed able at the moment, but we are/will be serious buyers, and have been looking on selling sites. RM just hands down seems to have the most listings, even all the listings of Zoopla that I've seen have also been on RM.

He didn't want to pay the insertion fee.

He is also talking bollocks.

I would be firing his arse.

Rightmove is expensive, that's why he spun you a line. I've never bought via Zoopla or any of the others. Rightmove gets lots of traffic which is what you need.

I've sold all my houses via Rightmove.

CallMeFlo · 23/09/2024 18:52

My brother sold his house recently. It was on RM but no other sites. They had 9 viewings arranged by day 1 and a further 10 day 2. All from RM

Anyone I know who's househunting uses RM as their main search tool

When I was looking it was all I used and I had various alerts set.

Your EA is talking nonsense

Hoppinggreen · 23/09/2024 18:54

Its the default one for both selling and renting

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 23/09/2024 18:58

Rightmove is the go-to these days. It’s the “Cellotape” or “Hoover” of property sites. Even if someone looks on Zoopla and Onthemarket it’s only in conjunction with Rightmove, and people would probably say in a general sense “I was looking on Rightmove the other day”.
EA definitely doesn’t want to pay the fees and is (wrongly) arrogant enough to think they could sell it without.

eatyeateat · 23/09/2024 19:03

Wouldn't even occur to me to look on a website apart from Rightmove

pinkroses79 · 23/09/2024 19:11

I've only ever looked on Rightmove. It's where all my friends and family look too, No one ever really bothers with anything else. It's the go-to for everyone, surely?

Roserunner · 23/09/2024 19:13

I'm going to go against the grain and say I prefer Zoopla, I like the app/website better and like how it shows pricing history. I do look at Rightmove as well as I know not everyone lists on Zoopla but it's not my preference.

mrssunshinexxx · 23/09/2024 19:19

RM is the main place to look for a property

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 23/09/2024 19:19

I've only ever used Rightmove when looking to buy

YourTwinklyDeer · 23/09/2024 19:19

Yep I used to work in an estates agents (briefly before Covid hit), I can’t remember the costs but RM is expensive, Zoopla and the others are cheap in comparison.

Gardendiary · 23/09/2024 19:24

Agree with everything pp have said, Rightmove have the market cornered and the estate agent is trying to save some money by not listing on there.

Kitkat1523 · 23/09/2024 19:26

I wouldn’t look anywhere else

housethatbuiltme · 23/09/2024 19:26

I use zoopla and on the market for market research (sold prices in the area etc...) never for listings. Rightmove is just the default.

arinya · 23/09/2024 19:27

I also used to work in an estate agency. If you are in England, Rightmove is king. The others just follow. Rightmove is also the most expensive for agents to use. It costs thousands. Our house has just gone on the market and our estate agent is using Rightmove and On the market. Doesn’t bother with Zoopla or Prime Location. It used to be that Zoopla was more commonly used in the North (I have family in Yorkshire who said agents there tend to use Zoopla over RM) but not sure why (cost?) and if that’s still the case.

Thismummyrunstheshow · 23/09/2024 19:31

I've only ever looked on RM for properties. In fact, I look daily sometimes at RM even now and I'm not even buying. It's like property crack to me, I can't stop Blush

kaos2 · 23/09/2024 19:31

Right move is my go to.

Button28384738 · 23/09/2024 19:32

Rightmove is essential I think

ftm76 · 23/09/2024 19:32

I would never buy if it wasn’t on Rightmove. Literally never used another site.

EngineEngineNumber9 · 23/09/2024 19:35

Unless you’re in the Edinburgh area in which case espc > rightmove.

Portakalkedi · 23/09/2024 19:36

Well it is crappy in some respects but there isn't any serious competition, so RM it is.

mynameiscalypso · 23/09/2024 19:38

I assume if a property isn't in rightmove that it's not legit or a complete and utter dump.

Dawninglory · 23/09/2024 19:43

I bought my house from seeing it on Right Move.

Lonelycrab · 23/09/2024 19:48

Very

geminiflanagan · 23/09/2024 19:49

Never used zoopla or any other site - ways rightmove
