I kinda wanna tear it to the ground and start again. I also want to desperately preserve anything I could. Which camp do you fall into?

Is it on a flood plain? It has that damp inside. And out appearance that you see with properties that have been flooded.

ShucksMcGibbons · 09/08/2024 16:57

I have no idea. I’m also not in the market — it’s just a fun thought (pretending I have skills, time, and money to do anything to it)

It also has the appearance of a building that has holes in the roof and missing windows - so it's hardly surprising there's signs of damp inside.

Due to its location, I'd be interested to know whether there are any underground mine workings nearby, what the local radon levels are, and where it sits on the local flood map.

ShucksMcGibbons · 09/08/2024 17:17

Like I said, I’m not planning on purchasing this house. Just having a fun play in my mind about with what I would do with it.

Are those plans dated 1st June 1982? Can't quite read them.

But love old houses and thinking what to do with them. Not sure if I'd have a wine room next to my bedroom though!

seriesoffortunateevents · 09/08/2024 17:21

Op I get what you’re trying to do and it’s not about flood plains.

id rip it down, its too far gone I think.

Twiglets1 · 09/08/2024 17:21

For fun I would raze it to the ground

With a big hammer? Sort of like those ‘rage rooms’ where you pay to break plates and stuff?

I'd want to redraw the plans up and use the upstairs space better - bedrooms 2 and 3 look tiny!

So I think I'd want a 2 story extension.

But even if I rebuilt it I'd want to keep some of the original stonework/ brisk as it's lovely.

I'd be a bit worried about wood rot in the beams 😂

Lovethat · 09/08/2024 17:36

Love the interior stone walls, if I had an endless supply of cash I'd renovate, but tbh it would probably be cheaper to knock it down and start again.

Ooh yes sounds a good stress reliever

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 09/08/2024 17:43

Too near the road! There isn’t even a pavement . So I wouldn’t give it a glance.

I suppose they got as far as taking everything out and then the money and/ or enthusiasm ran out.

billysboy · 09/08/2024 17:45

£2500 per sq m to sort something out like that just in the process of sorting this one

ImWearingPantaloons · 09/08/2024 17:55

Put the Aga into storage, knock it down, build it again, put Aga back in.

AKAanothername · 09/08/2024 17:56

Knock it down, build new, zero VAT on a new build.

AddictedToBooks · 09/08/2024 18:10

The only thing I like about that place is the arched doorway - unfortunately because I'd rip the rest of it down, I'd be unlikely to be able to save that arched doorway unless I built a new property around that 😂

good96 · 09/08/2024 18:42

I’d demolish the existing building for starters. It would cost more to restore it to a habitable condition then to get a bulldozer to it…

Saltash being on the Cornwall cusp and just over the Tamar bridge from Plymouth - you could develop an extensive luxurious large house - or you could probably fit two dwellings on the site, possibly 3? Holiday homes could work as well as rentals if you went down this route…

BronwenFrideswide · 09/08/2024 18:54

Are my eyes deceiving me or is there ivy growing on the inside?

For me I'd flatten it and start again it would be cheaper in the long run, you'd have to spend a fortune to restore and modernise it.

You could always re-use some of the parts of it in the new build if you wanted to.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 09/08/2024 19:43

Pretty sure you aren't supposed to be able to see that much daylight through walls and roofs. I love a good virtual restoration, but it's tiny so you wouldn't even have much house afterwards. Totally up for the just history it with a hammer until it falls over game!

Wow, beautiful.

DuesToTheDirt · 09/08/2024 20:15

Blimey, £230k eh?

CatherinedeBourgh · 09/08/2024 20:23

I would rescue as many of the old materials as possible, knock it down and build it again using some of the old materials as a feature. I would want it further from the road, for starters.

Isseywith3witchycats · 09/08/2024 20:47

After getting past the for sale by modern auction which would add a lot of money onto the buying price i would demolish it because any area has a ceiling price and trying to save that house you would go way over that, by the time you had got rid of all the plaster floorboards etc you would only have the four outside walls left and they are not in brilliant condition

BronwenFrideswide · 09/08/2024 20:49

I keep seeing this modern auction thing pop up, what is it and how is it different from a 'normal' auction and do they still do those?

Yeah because more holiday lets or massive luxury houses is just what Cornwall needs 🙄
