Affection
A bicycle
Curtains (I know, weird)
Makeup

TheTempest · 19/04/2024 00:44

No arguments- peace and communication instead of shouting and rows.
whatever food we want (probably less good as I’m pretty chunky!)
dogs
mess and clutter- my childhood home was always really clean and tidy. I’m not great at that in my own home!

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 19/04/2024 00:45

Scented candles and lying in bed. Otherwise not so different, I must have gotten my rebellious phase out of my system! I did use to like a cheeky smoke which they definitely never had.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 19/04/2024 00:45

A play station
Fabric conditioner
The kids don't have to finish their food if they are full.

A Mr Frosty. Belated gift (by about 40 years) - still in its box as the novelty has worn off now.

LadyWiddiothethird · 19/04/2024 00:50

Earrings.

Feeling loved and cared for( I live alone but I always know I'm loved by my DC)
Drinking a whole can of coke to myself whenever I like!
My beautiful dog
Contentment

blackpear · 19/04/2024 01:15

Hundreds of school stories including Enid Blyton.

GridlockedKey · 19/04/2024 01:21

Nothing h. My parents had no rules. They were great loving parents but prioritised everyone being happy and having fun over boring things like homework and chores

Hmm maybe that's what I have that they didn't, rules! My kids had rules.
Nothing drastic but don't trash the kitchen when you cook plus other unwritten rules such as no drugs in the house.

Quinque · 19/04/2024 02:23

Clean, smoke-free air.

Ladyj84 · 19/04/2024 02:32

A dog but in all fairness that was part of the tenancy agreement I had cats etc lol

Musiclover234 · 19/04/2024 03:38

central heating : had storage heaters
double glazed windows

MenFEARtheDEERE · 19/04/2024 04:14

Curry and other well sus foreign food.
Fans: no fear of draughts in my cosy 2002 home.

A solid No Smoking rule with no exceptions ever, no matter what.

Octavia64 · 19/04/2024 04:20

Cats

My mum hated animals. Still does. She is required to be nice to my cats if she wants to be in my house.

seasaltwater · 19/04/2024 06:47

Love and unconditional positive regard.

PieonaBarm · 19/04/2024 06:58

A dog (until he got old and went to Rainbow Bridge). The ironic thing is we were never allowed one as the Dog Hater of the North (my Mum) wouldn't allow it, but DDog won her over very quickly and they became absolute BFF's and adored each other. I guess at least they're together now! My brother also got a dog when he moved out!

Oh and mayonnaise. Still prefer salad cream. DH is the mayo eater.

Reading this makes me feel grateful for the supportive, relaxed and comfortable upbringing my parents provided us in the ‘70 / ‘80s .So while I know it wasn’t the purpose of this post, thank you for reminding me to appreciate that.

I do have more variety and better cheeses in the fridge now, but that’s because there is more choice not because my parents don’t like cheese 😂

buckleten · 19/04/2024 07:08

A lava lamp!

BonzoGates · 19/04/2024 07:20

Respect

BentFork · 19/04/2024 07:21

Food.

I went without much of the time as a child. Now I over-eat to make sure I get enough... 😔

daffodilandtulip · 19/04/2024 07:24

Fruit (waste of money)
"Foreign food" (ie pasta, curries 🙄)
Smelly food (eg pancakes, bacon)
A car (unnecessary)
A dog (smelly)
Blankets and cushions (messy)
Duvets (can't make a tidy bed)
Tea and coffee (mother didn't like them)
Branded/decent shoes/clothes (money)

Halloweenrainbow · 19/04/2024 07:37

Fancy toilet paper (thick, quilted with balm). It was the first thing I treated myself to when I moved out, lol. I grew-up with either the cheapest bog roll that crumbled upon use or the 80s recycled stuff with brown flecks of carboard in it. Grim.

SkiingIsHeaven · 19/04/2024 07:40

A shotgun
