Peak luxury in a property

What would you consider 'luxury' that you would love to have in your house?

For me it would be a seating area in the house where there is no TV. It is purely for chatting/reading. A TV room would be in addition to rather than instead of.

Also a walk in pantry😍

I suppose you could be ridiculous in this thread and say helipad but a bit pointless if you don't have a helicopter in the first place!!

What would you love to have in your home?

En suite bathroom (our last house had one, our current one only has an en suite in the guest room) — more of an essential than a luxury, would never get a house without one again (needs to be large enough though).

Walk-in wardrobe(s), like a whole closet room, American style.

A basement (or garden room) gym. With proper ventilation.

Off-street parking for at least two cars — bit of a luxury in London.

A butler’s pantry.

Wine cellar.

Cinema room (with sofas).

A proper orangery / conservatory with temperature control.

Would never be without again: downstairs loo (game changer, so essential), utility room (ours is only a cupboard but hated having laundry in the kitchen), walk-in pantry (just the understairs cupboard but works so well), hidden away appliances (would like to hide more! An appliance garage would be great).

A laundry room/drying room with a designated area for drying wetsuits and storing them and all the other winter water sport boots, gloves and hoods, as well as space for all the laundry and also all the wet coats wellies and shoes, with a built in dehumidifier so things dry quickly.

And a shower area in it specifically to clean wetsuits so we don't have to do it outside with the hose in the freezing cold.

Digital thermometer in the shower

Heated flooring throughout

Pool

Wine cellar

I saw on a reel an appliance garage. Obviously you have to have a huge kitchen, basically under the kitchen wall cupboard a matching door is installed that works like an up and over garage door.

Toaster, air fryer, blender etc are placed on the worktop the door is pulled down and everything is hidden away, but still accessible.

Genius and mind blowing (to me anyhow)

I saw that too. I assume you need extra deep worktops.

Walk in pantry
Boot room
Utility room
Attached garage

An integrated vacuum cleaning system.
Vacuum hoses installed into the walls, on all levels of the property: you pull out the hose, you hoover, you put back the hose, all nicely concealed and out of the way.

And yes, a dedicated dog room which is not the utility room, or some downstairs makeshift shower facility. Obviously with a blaster to clean/dry my dogs and some sort of self cleaning environment to remove dust/hair from the air.

A tree lined drive I could gallop my horse up!

Ciri · 02/04/2024 21:02

I’m lucky enough to have many of these things. I do love having a separate laundry room (clean), boot room (mucky) and dog area with separate dog shower (smelly).

I would like a pool. We haven’t done it because we dont think it would get enough use now our dc are at uni but I would love one (just not the heating bills)

Starseeking · 02/04/2024 21:07

An en-suite with a double size walk-in rainfall shower.

A walk in wardrobe complete with triple angled mirrors.

A utility room big enough to have standing drying racks.

A walk-in pantry with a hidden door off the kitchen.

A downstairs shower room.

A second living room identical in size to my first one.

A loft converted into two extra double bedrooms with a Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

Claysta · 02/04/2024 21:08

A laundry room upstairs, a library and a wine room - I like those ones with a spiral staircase from the kitchen, you lift a hatch and then descend down.. I’ve seen them in magazines and actually think I would live/hide down there (when DS/DD/DH annoy me)…

Timeturnerplease · 02/04/2024 21:09

Two dishwashers, a utility room, a walk in pantry, a kitchen big enough for an island, a study, enough bedrooms for each member of the family plus a spare, a garage, underfloor heating….if we win the lottery, I know exactly what I want in a house!

unsync · 02/04/2024 21:09

A basement, in-wall vacuum system and a laundry chute.

biscuitcat · 02/04/2024 21:09

A separate boot room and utility room - especially ones with beautiful bespoke cabinets. And a bathroom big enough to have a clawfoot/freestanding bath in the middle, and still plenty of space around the outside for a shower, big vanity unit, and a lovely chair. Oh and a huge vegetable patch area with a Hartley Botanicals greenhouse - one day!

A rubbish chute in the ceiling so I can send rubbish down direct to the outside bin.

TBH I could probably open a window and just lob it out but it might hit the car.

We had one of those in an apartment we lived in a couple of years ago, and it wasn’t as great as you’d think - the chute was quite small so you ended up wrestling the rubbish bag into it.

My dad has a pool. It’s brilliant (especially because I am the only one of his offspring to live in the same village) but the upkeep is insane. Even with regular visits from the pool guys, he still spends half of his summer testing chemicals, adjusting the temperature, fishing my DDs toys out of the filter etc.

tiggersfamily · 02/04/2024 21:35

Speakers in the walls in every room, walk in wardrobe/ dressing room with secret en-suite, stream in the garden, gym in the house

supercalafragilisticexpealidocious · 02/04/2024 21:38

A large garden with uninterrupted countryside views

TesticularHeft · 02/04/2024 21:42

A walk in wardrobe type area
An area of the house that is separate enough for DD to have sleepovers and is be completely unaware of any noise or mess. One house I wish we'd always bought had an attic with two rooms and an en suite which would have been perfect. Another has a tv room off the kitchen which would also have been perfect.

Octavia64 · 02/04/2024 21:43

A slide.

So you can go up the stairs or down the stairs but there's a slide as well.

I like slides.

FountainofTruth · 02/04/2024 21:47

A reading nook, a huge catio and a little stream flowing to the side of the house.

olivebranch31 · 02/04/2024 21:57
  • a boot room with a dog shower
  • kitchen island
  • walk in pantry
  • walk in wardrobe
  • his & hers ensuite
  • double detached garage
  • gated driveway
  • countryside or seaside views
  • orangery
  • oak porch/frame
  • mature wisteria
  • sash windows
  • large stone fireplace
  • perfectly kept cottage garden
  • no neighbours 🤣

I could go on for hours dreaming!

olivebranch31 · 02/04/2024 22:01

Oh and a shower with a seat so lady grooming doesn't require gymnastics skills

Aussiegold · 02/04/2024 22:02

Friend lives in a mansion and pretty much has all of the things mentioned! Master "suite" has his and hers dressing rooms AND bathrooms.

The pool room has its own gym and kitchen......I could go on........

HesterPrincess · 02/04/2024 22:07

Dog room with a dog shower and separate boot room with massive cupboards
Utility room with 2 washing machines, a commercial dryer and a roller press for bedsheets
Walk in pantry with marble shelves

Echobelly · 02/04/2024 22:08

A utility room where you could dry clothes so they're not always drying in bedrooms/other spaces in the house for 70% of the year!
