Small Flat: Freezer vs Tumble Dryer

Threadcountess · 26/03/2024 20:01

Living in a small flat in a city. We either have space for a separate tumble dryer or an under counter freezer.

Otherwise we have a tiny cell freezer/ice box.

Only use a tumble dryer for bedding and towels but find it frustrating not being able to batch cook food.

Do you have a cupboard a tumble dryer would fit into? I have a condenser one on top of a piece of worktop in what was the water tank cupboard, when I used it I just leave the cupboard door open.

I didn't have a tumble dryer for a long time and didn't use it when the electric prices were £££ but I definitely had an influx of mould at those times drying clothing on airers.

Freezer, every time, have you got space for a dehumidifer, we use that in a utility room (side return with roof!) to get washing dry

Put the dehumidifier away when not in use

I'd choose a freezer.

I live alone so don't have tons of drying to do and the bathroom in my flat has an outside window - I put things on the clothes rack over the bath, window and door open and things dry reasonably quickly.

We're also in a flat and I would prioritise the dryer over a freezer, especially as you say you have a box in the fridge. I have a packet of emergency veg, some fish fingers and often a tub or two of pasta sauce plus some ice cream.

When you're limited with space you really don't want to have to give up the floor space to drying duvet covers and towels constantly. You would always be living with laundry hanging up everywhere to dry or bashing into clothes horses.

I'd opt for a freezer and a washer dryer. Washer dryers take a while to wash and dry a whole load of washing, but they're so much better than they used to be. I had one in my previous home, and I'd set the wash and dry cycle on a timer to finish just as I was getting up in the morning.
