Black Or White Log Burner Stove

We’ve decided to get a multi fuel stove in the living room.
I’d like a white one to make it seem more posh/fancy in the living room, but husband prefers the black ones. Can anyone tell me if the white ones begin to discolour after a while, or is my husband just trying to put me off to get his own way!
Also, as I’ve never had this type of stove in a house before, are they as good as every one claims they are?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a white one - that sounds a bit odd, and hard to keep clean.

I wouldn't be opposed to white in the right type of house - modern - and am not particularly keen on that fire surround. I love a traditional black stove. They make a lot of fine dust to clean in a room and dealing with coal is DIRTY!
Clearview are one of the best makes, as the window stays clearer than other makes, but are also expensive. I have a Juno as I couldn't afford Clearview when I installed mine, but I love it.

Black is classic, will never date. The white looks tacky and impractical, a bit "trying too hard" (just my personal opinion).

We've had two logburners over the years and loved both, phenomenal heat output, but it's worth researching the best ways to light them and the differences in fuel types. Also worth getting an eco fan to disperse heat.

It seems like white isn’t the popular choice here! Perhaps husband will be winning the argument after all. I hope the heat output is as good as folk say and yes will be getting the fan to disperse the warmth

Black every time.

White ones are for people who never use them. You'll regret it.

Logs still generate dust & ash no matter how dry they are. You'd be cleaning a white one every day.

Doesn't matter what you burn, wood or coal, the ash is messy. The white will be hard to keep looking smart.

White one looks cheap

We have a log burner - we moved last year so we’re new to it. We only burn logs.

The heat is lovely once you work out the right number of logs to put on at once. But the dust and dirt would be truly, truly horrific with a white log burner. It’s the ash and soot that’s generated from being burnt.

Also agree with PP that white looks a bit cheap which wood burners certainly aren’t!

Use a chocolate one so that you are never tempted to put it on. They are a health and environmental hazard.

But aren't they supposed to be cast iron? (ie black). Therefore presumably to make it white it has some kind of coating on the cast iron, which over time will probably chip wear away. And it looks a bit naff - sorry.

And also why get a multifuel if you're going to burn logs? I thought you weren't supposed to burn coal now anyway.

Wood is still dirty.

If this is your first burner do not underestimate the mess it makes, what a ballache bringing wood inside is and the cost of fuel.
We have one that came with the house. Rather have gas tbh.

Have you researched the particulate pollution these things create? They are a serious health hazard and create high levels of pollution. There is talk of them being banned. I wouldn’t dream of installing one in my own home.

I agree with PPs, that white one in the photo is just for show. I'd expect the white coating, whatever it is, would rapidly discolour with the heat given off, regardless of how often it's cleaned.

I like the coloured stoves but they are enamel and if you’re burning logs or smokeless fuel the extremes of heat Will possibly discolour and crack the enamel, happens on solid fuel agas and rayburns. The black stoves are a heat proof spray on bare metal which can be redone at home.

Logs are expensive and stoves are dirty. And they require maintenance on a daily and yearly basis. I’ve just swept my chimney and the fetchingand carrying of fuel is just another domestic task that needs doing.
We live very rurally and get feee wood (well it has to cut and seasoned) so it works for us. If I was in a town I think I would go for something like this

Op they discolour, I got a gun metal one, ended up using a special stove paint to make it black, it now looks pristine and of course I can use the stove polish as well. We use it throughout the winter. I probably got about 4 years out of it, before it looked bad, it’s one of the more expensive large Charnwood ones, they even supply stove paint in the colour when you buy it, so you know. They go brownish.

I had this one. It didn't get dirty, it was enamel and really high quality. Any dirt was really easy to wipe off, it is smooth unlike a black cast iron stove (I've had those too).
