Looking for a two bed garden flat (min) with good primary schools around and a cute village feel high street up to 650k. Any area suggestions?

Cute?

I’ve never heard a neighbourhood described as ‘cute’ before. Pleasant, leafy, green, upmarket, trendy, but never ‘cute’.

Are you moving from overseas?

noodlesfortea · 12/03/2024 07:03

Wandsworth town has a lovely village feel high street and you'd get something within your budget

I can think of cute neighbourhoods like Haverstock hill with twinkling fairy lights & bijou shops/ cafes or Hampstead village or Primrose Hill but you would struggle to get a nice 2 bed in those places for 650k 🙁

Yes I think cute likely not available at that price point!

I mean £650k can get you a house in my London neighbourhood but no one sane would describe it as cute (last night I walked past a street vigil for a man who was shot on Sunday).

Stonehill · 12/03/2024 07:42

This is a very different use of the word cute. Are you Asian? I am only asking because the only place I have ever seen the word cute used like this is in language apps translating from SE Asian languages.

lol your neighbourhood is “diverse” & “vibrant” in EA speak.

So what if OP is Asian or not Asian? We all know what they mean by a cute neighbourhood surely?

mitogoshi · 12/03/2024 07:46

No part of London is cute. To be honest none feels like a village either despite what estate agents use in their marketing. Just put into right move and see what's available

What difference does it make? I am trying to work out where this use of the word "cute" is coming from, It isn't normal usage, but it isn't unheard of either. I am guessing it comes from SE Asia, as I have seen it on language apps that translate SE Asian languages. It is being used wrongly, as a neighbourhood can't be "cute" - and nor can other things these language apps imply can be! And then of course, if this carries on, you are left with the problem of not having a word for cute when you want to actually talk about a cute thing.

mynameiscalypso · 12/03/2024 07:52

I live in a 'cute' neighbourhood that ticks all your boxes. We still have an issue with people sitting on our doorstep smoking crack.

Twiglets1 · 12/03/2024 07:53

Disagree that a neighbourhood can’t be described as cute or that OPs ethnicity is relevant to a discussion about areas of London they may want to research.

Haha I’d love to take a guess but wouldn’t want to offend anyone. East London maybe?

Ethnicity is not relevant, but part of the world they learnt English is very interesting to me

I don't think it's that odd a word. There are bits of London where the houses are all different colours and there are cafes with lots of greenery and that sort of thing. I'd call that cute.

Daffnee · 12/03/2024 08:00

Crouch End ticks all your boxes.

O no! Looks like the rot has spread further than I realised already!

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/141732569

I mean, it might not be at all what the OP has in mind. But it is a 2-bed flat for £650k in a part of london that is 'cute' I would guess - Richmond borders and ticks a decent number of boxes.
