Oh wow. That kitchen is amazing!

Norhymeorreason · 29/02/2024 11:20

It's wonderful - there something so joyful about it. I hope the owner gets her wish and it's bought as a family home (but not changed too much as it's fabulous as it is!)

YouAndMeAndThem · 29/02/2024 11:31

Sorry EIGHT MILLION?!?! I bet whoever owned that house did not buy it for that!

GasPanic · 29/02/2024 11:57

That avacardo bathroom suite doesn't look very 1950s.

snowisfinethanks · 29/02/2024 11:59

Wow

snowisfinethanks · 29/02/2024 11:59

But no doubt it will be ruined

GanninHyem · 29/02/2024 12:09

If it's not been touched for 70 years, yes it will need to be "ruined" I imagine just to make the electrical wiring safe alone.

housethatbuiltme · 29/02/2024 12:45

Why did coloured bath suites ever go out of style... they are so much cooler than the dull white we have now.

I'm seeing a trend for people painting the outside of clawfoot tubs so hopefully colours will come back.

TheDogIsInCharge · 29/02/2024 12:58

My first thought was "someone is going to white render and grey window all the colour and joy out of that house aren't they?"

Then I realised that at £8 million in Chelsea it will probably be razed to the ground and a giant McMansion built on the land. Or bought by a property developer who will squeeze 8 townhouses onto the plot.

My brother in law has a house with colourful bathrooms - no avocado (and the one in that house linked is not avocado anyway) but pink and turquoise. He decided to embrace it and the bathrooms have been tiled in contrasting or complimenting colours and they look bloody amazing.

There's a mid century beauty on the market near me and I know it will be bought and absolutely trashed.

Janehasamane · 29/02/2024 12:59

Eight million! I would not even touch it.

viques · 29/02/2024 13:04

That bath is huge!

That avacardo bathroom suite doesn't look very 1950s.

It's not avocado. Avocado era wouldn't have had the built in ceramic shaped soap dish holders, would most likely have had a plastic side panel to the bath and would also most likely have had a different shaped sink pedestal.

That avacardo bathroom suite doesn't look very 1950s.

My grandmother had a similar bathroom, which was installed in the 50s. I think there was a vogue for coloured bathrooms then, as well as in the 70s.

It isn’t avocado, that is a different shade of green. This is a very fifties green .

HJ40 · 29/02/2024 14:12

I'll spare you the DF link, but this is the first result that comes up for avocado. I think my parents might even have had exactly the same wall tiles too 😂

House untouched since 1956

Now that is a 70s bathroom - my parents had this exactly.

Sleeptastic · 29/02/2024 14:33

It looks so loved and well cared for. Wish I had £8m!!

YouAndMeAndThem · 29/02/2024 11:31

Sorry EIGHT MILLION?!?! I bet whoever owned that house did not buy it for that!

It probably cost them 10 bob!

Guavafish1 · 29/02/2024 14:42

£8 million!

The house doesn't stand a chance - it will be demolished and made into flats.

SuncreamAndIceCream · 29/02/2024 14:45

That is a beautiful house.

The parquet floor, the staircase, the kitchen. All those lovely features. Wish I could afford it, it's stunning.

It’s mint rather than avocado, very 50’s.

Op did you see the house thread yesterday? The vintage kitchen in that was amazing.

Nellieinthebarn · 29/02/2024 20:11

I love it, its a shame its not listed.

SameSameButDeliverance · 29/02/2024 20:20

That flooring!
That staircase!
That room divider!
That kitchen!*
That location!

God, that could be so beautifully modernised with sympathy. Imagine the shopping for Mid Century furniture and lighting <swoon>

*would need a new oven though.

Freetodowhatiwant · 01/03/2024 10:31

Modernised with sympathy @SameSameButDeliverance is exactly what it needs. I hadn't actually looked the price! I guess I already knew that a house in Chelsea is currently out of my league whatever year it was built. Currently :)

The only thing I like about it is the parquet floors....
