Red flag? Multiple properties for sale in same rd?

Redlarge · 07/01/2024 11:30

Im considering viewing a house. There are currently 3 properties up for sale. The road has approx 70 houses.
Its 80% victorian terrace, 20% modern new build with the new build being housing association and terraced being mostly owned/rented.
When I look on rightmove a few of the terraced houses including the one im considering have changed hands within 2/3 years.
They are not starter homes... big 3/4 bed terraces with large yards.
They have however gone up a lot in value which might explain the movement.
Would this put you off?

Yes, if you post a link to one people might have more of an idea if anything is concerning?

Id rather not post a link as i have a stalker ex and although i doubt he will know who i am on here stranger things have happened and i dont want him to know where we are moving to.
Sorry I know its not helpful.
I think its the moving to garages/gardens tbh. The road is far from leafy and as others have said 3 in 70 isnt bad. I feel better from posting on here... i tend to over think things. Im going to view the one I like on Friday 🤞

Maybe they are the Jews will insulated horses on the street and are now costing a lot to run with higher energy prices. Add in nowhere for an electric car and maybe that's just added to the likelihood if a house going up for sale. I don't think 3 out 70 is alarming though.
That said the numbers are close together so might be worth driving by at a range of time and days to see what goes on at the weekend/evening/early morning.

ArchetypalBusyMum · 07/01/2024 13:52

Less well insulated houses.
Can't imagine Jewish people wasting their time insulating horses! But thanks autocorrect for the random thought.

Omg ha ha. I do hope there aren't any especially warm horses congregating there. Yes good point though. I will thank you x

Glad you are reassured enough to set up a viewing OP. I agree that 3 out of 70 is not an usually high proportion. All the best!

Street with about 40 houses, 3 of which are currently for sale and another 3 or 4 have changed hands since lockdown.
In our case, a couple of these have been owned by one owner family since new builds in the 1950s/60s and original owners have died or moved out; others have been flipped. I think it’s just the particular area I live in. Some of the smaller homes are great for young families , and the 50s style attract a lot of older, still working couples, with their dogs ( like me)

Oldraver · 07/01/2024 14:05

I live in a small development of 7 houses at the end of a small cul-de-sac. Our houses are very different to the rest

A few years ago one of our neighbours had their house up for sale for over a year, also very over priced. The next door (rented out by military family posted overseas) went up for sale and sold immediately, like next day the sold sign went up. Another neighbour put theirs on the market (relationship breakdown) and in the meantime sale of second house broke down so went back on the market

So for a while three out of seven for sale. I did see the estate agent in the supermarket and asked why three were up for sale, were there bad neighbours etc and she did go pale. I laughed and said don't worry, I'm probably the bad neighbour but knew it was coincidence

In the end all three sold within a few weeks. So I would say there could be something amiss, but more likely just a perfect Storm of reasons for sale

GOODCAT · 07/01/2024 14:06

When we sold our last house we were in a road of say 30 houses and bungalows built in the 70s. Ours was one of a terrace / semi detached of about 12. We were the third one to put up our house for sale, quickly followed by two more.

There was no reason, just pure chance a lot of us happened to want / need to move at the same time. However, it definitely slowed down getting them sold and the price.

Put the postcode in here and you will see what anti social crime there is in that road and area

It could be that the street has a poorly performing school as the only option for that street.

Also a lot of landlords are selling.

Crikeyalmighty · 07/01/2024 14:12

@Redlarge is it a studenty type town /city/area ? If so could it be landlords selling off HMOs? . Theres been a glut of this here in Bath asa lot of the foreign students now tend to go for these very modern studio flat developments

People have kids and decide they want a garden not a yard

Yes please do let us know - and well done for planning to do such comprehensive research. You will be well armed to make a decision about whether to make an offer in due course.

I meant to say that 3 out of 70 is not an unusually high proportion in my first post - but you got me anyway 🙂

willWillSmithsmith · 07/01/2024 14:23

The road I used to live in was always having several houses for sale. When I bought I think there were about four. There was nothing wrong with the road and the people who bought from me are still there nearly twenty years later (I sold after four years). Every so often I feel regret over selling it as it’s now worth three times what I bought it for.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/01/2024 14:25

I’s guess parking issues.

PickledPurplePickle · 07/01/2024 14:27

We live in a small cluster of 7 houses, which are all very different

2 of us are up for sale

Nothing nefarious - the couple next door are older and want to downsize, we need to relocate

JoanThursday · 07/01/2024 14:30

I live in a small road of approx 40 houses. Sought after area, no parking issues, no odd neighbour issues as far as I am aware. Three houses bang next door to each other were all on the market at the same time - and the first in about 3 years.

The all have kids of a similar age and are all after more space. Other than that, total coincidence.

Numbers 27, 35 and 39

That sounds like a problem neighbour, I would say check how the houses in-between look. But you'd need to look carefully. Our problem neighbours you can only tell because there's always some sort of damage to the front door.

I agree that this is a possibility - certainly with no 37. But don't they have to tell you if you ask?

TheSnowyOwl · 07/01/2024 15:08

You could always knock on a few doors and ask the occupants what they think of the road. Perhaps also drive round it late in the evening at the weekend and early morning to see if there is anything that could potentially be an issue within the street.

Could just be an age/ lifestage/ timing thing. We live in a 60s built cul de sac and when we moved here a lot of people have lived here since the houses were built, and they'd all moved in when they were early 30s with young families. They all became empty nesters and then downsizers at the same time and there was a point when about 3-4 of only 18 houses were on sale at the same time.

TeenLifeMum · 07/01/2024 15:40

I live in a small cul de sac with 3 homes on the market currently.

  1. Moving back to Spain as she moved her to care for her dad who has since died
  2. moved home to Libya as husband was a gp and got struck off
  3. in military deployed here for 3 years but within 4 months was redeployed 2 hours away and commute was too much.
we only have 19 homes in the road.
