Damaged new quartz worktops 😭😭😭

Fitted a week ago, and idiot here decided to use a child’s eraser to remove a stain that wasn’t shifting. It was a hard rubber that obviously has left abrasions on the counter top - a big, long streak. I’m devestated. I’ve messaged the countertop people but they are off until Monday. Can someone please tell me that they’ll be able to buff it out so I don’t spend the weekend crying?! Pic attached

@DingDongMerrilyWithPie here to go! Hidden pantry behind one of the doors 😉Seating area off to the right (chairs arriving tomorrow) and taking the pic from the dining area. Mumsnet actually helped me visualise what to do with the space a few months ago! Will update that thread once the seating in!!

Oh come on... you can't mention a hidden pantry and keep it hidden! We need to see it!

TemporaryName123 · 20/12/2023 16:33

@CellophaneFlower It’s soooo basic lol! Was the wall that was previously recessed for an oven etc. but I didn’t want it blocked up and have a weird unused cavern! So have tall freezer on one side when you walk in, then shelving (Inc for airfryer) on right hand side! Will try snap later for you but it honestly doesn’t look impressive at all haha!

Thanks @NatMoz! It’s a stone and plastic composite, never heard of it before this process but apparently super hard wearing which is what I need in my house lol!

Well the wall to the left has no units so I'm going to put the fridge freezer, double oven and pantry unit there - not like your amazing walk-in one but at least all food stuffs will be together. 80cm induction hob hopefully.

Thinking white units to bounce light around with wood effect floor. White marble effect laminate possibly. Moving washing machine and dryer to wall behind the stools.

Yours looks splendid - well done and I'm so glad the worktop got sorted.

Oh it's like the kitchen edition of Narnia.

NatMoz · 20/12/2023 20:24

I blooming love a good pantry! We have one but I've been asking my husband to put a door on it for the last 2 years!

TemporaryName123 · 20/12/2023 20:52

@DingDongMerrilyWithPie that sounds lovely! We had marble effect laminate in our last house and honestly it looked great and actually had a good shine on it! It was B&Q circa 2016. White and bright Deffo the way to go in your lovely kitchen! RE your induction hob, we went for a down draft hob. A bit pricier BUT you get a lot more freedom about where you put it in your space as you don’t need to be tied to an extractor fan point depending on how you use your kitchen. So for example I adore cooking and it was so important in our forever kitchen that i was actually a part of conversation and life while cooking. So I wanted it on island, but didn’t want extractor. Just thinking of how you may use your kitchen, and your peninsula xx

Oh it's amazing. It doubles up as a panic room... I think I'd have a wine fridge in there and not let on to the children about it's existence.

Oooh that's a thought - will look at downdraft versions. My current 60cm hob is way too small. Thanks!

CatherinedeBourgh · 20/12/2023 21:59

Can I ask why you have an air vent at the bottom of your island?

Lalalanding · 20/12/2023 22:11

Fab @TemporaryName123 happy to be a pantry perv 😆

TemporaryName123 · 20/12/2023 22:56

@CatherinedeBourgh thatswhere the cleaned air from the downdraft hob comes out (the Downdraft sucks the air from cooking pots and pans down through a ceramic filter which removes odours and the air out the bottom of the island). Could have got it ducted all the way to the outside but it meant a lot more work!

TemporaryName123 · 20/12/2023 22:57

@CellophaneFlower I have told the kids this, doesn’t seem to stop them entering it for hide and seek! Hope the novelty wears off soon and I can put an inside lock on it for secret wine drinking (only half joking!)

Ah, thank you. Good to know it can go outside too, it's what I'd like to do (can go straight down as we have a crawlspace under the kitchen).
