You're not going to believe this but... I think I know that flat! I viewed it four years ago. Either that or a near identical one in the same block.

Beautiful flat but makes me so glad I live in the North and could get a detached period house with 10 acres for that price!

Please point me in the direction of detached period properties with 10 acres (or less) for 550k.

I want to relocate but am aimless about where and this sounds perfect Grin

NE England if you look in the right places ie County Durham rather than North Yorks. You wouldn't get a large detached property but certainly a 3 or small 4 bed detached with land for under 500K.

OnMyHamptonWick · 05/12/2023 14:10

Local to me! Are you already in the area? I really love the flat.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/12/2023 14:11

I love these threads.

OP "what do you think of this perfectly nice flat in London"

Half the posters "dunno. I hate flats me, have you thought about buying a five bed house in the North instead?".

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 05/12/2023 14:12

I really like it.

Well that's what happens when you post on a public board asking for what people think! You get replies stating what people think.

Ketzele · 05/12/2023 14:14

Actually, cancel that - the one I viewed was two bed. But definitely in same block. It also had the original art deco bathroom and kitchen cabinets- I was in heaven. I was so tempted by it and couldn't bear the thought of somebody ripping out all those original tiles and cruise liner cabinetry. But it was just too small for my family and I had to tell myself very sternly that I am not the National Trust.

I bought somewhere bigger (and uglier) nearby, and still love that block. It's brilliantly located overlooking Bushy Park (deer! Cafe!) and just a couple of minutes from Home Park. It's a few mins walk to the station and just five minutes walk over the bridge to Kingston. You can walk the river path up to Richmond, Teddington or down to Hampton Court Palace. There are great schools all around.

I want it myself!

SumthingAndNuthing · 05/12/2023 14:24

It’s okay, but I can’t get past the cooker being where the dishwasher should be and the dishwasher being where the cooker should be, it’s weird.

AfterTheRainComesSun · 05/12/2023 15:20

@DidiAskYouThough but these type of comments don't really make any sense to me. Of course you need to contextualise your answer.
This is a flat near London, obviously it is never going to be comparable to a 5 bed detached country house in the middle of nowhere up north. Good for you if that's where you like to be and have found your perfect lifestyle but I have absolutely zero reasons to be planning a move to the other side of the country where I'd have no job, no friends, no family and zero connections.

I could say the same thing about your beautiful house btw - yeah stunning but for that price I'd rather get a 1 bed flat in central London as it would suit my lifestyle more :)

AfterTheRainComesSun · 05/12/2023 15:22

@Ketzele There is also a 2 bed in the same building I have seen listed, even more beautiful actually and same sqm.
What puts me off is the high charges (although it does include some bills) and the fact that the area is very expensive and posh and I am sure the majority of people we'd get to meet and other parents at school will be living in very fancy houses around there. I would like to live somewhere where we "fit in" especially as we have DC; am I mad to think that?

AfterTheRainComesSun · 05/12/2023 15:23

@twistyizzy No, you need to be able to contextualise your answers. Obv if I have linked a flat near London it means I have no interest in buying a mansion up north, otherwise I'd do that.

@Ginmonkeyagain tell me about it

slowsundays · 05/12/2023 15:24

I really like it and it's rare I say that. I love the light, the windows, the open plan but still sectioned off space, the floors and the fireplace.

Growlybear83 · 05/12/2023 15:31

I think the flat is almost lovely but is spoilt by being so open plan.

AdultLounge · 05/12/2023 15:31

I really really don't like the table and chair in the hall.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/12/2023 15:31

@AfterTheRainComesSun Hampton Wick is a bit fancy. Is there a reason you are looking there?

ImNunTheWiser · 05/12/2023 15:33

FallingAutumnLeaf · 05/12/2023 13:22

You'd probably need to rip out much of the fitted wardrobes in bed 3 to fit a standard single in, I think.

Dislike the dining table in the hall but not sure there is anywhere else to put it.

Is parking likely to be required?

(As a northerner how much 🫨)

And as a Southerner my first thought was, Wow, only £515K for a lovely three bed! Mad isn’t it? 😁

ImNunTheWiser · 05/12/2023 15:35

Great area, gorgeous building, lovely airy flat (bath and kitchen a bit tired but nothing horrific), and the service charge seems ok given the bills. Although yes to being wary of increases. Love it.

MissyB1 · 05/12/2023 15:36

I love it but would have to make some changes. It needs a new bathroom, the layout of the current bathroom is terrible. It also needs new kitchen doors (the current ones are naff and bit depressing). With a few alterations and ££ spending it would be stunning. I would buy it.

MissyB1 · 05/12/2023 15:40

I can see why they put the dining table and chairs in the hallway, but you could squeeze them into the lounge if you reshuffle the furniture. And then I would put the doorway back in between the lounge and hall.

LylaLee · 05/12/2023 15:41

I'd actually say it's a one bedroom flat with a sitting room, a dining room and an office. OR a 2 bed with no dining room.

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/12/2023 15:43

Ha ha - there is no way it would be marketed as a one bed flat- in London everything that isn't a kitchen or a bathroom is potentially a bedroom.

Rollingdownland · 05/12/2023 15:44

You should get some money off it as it's been reduced and on the market since the early summer.

Drives me mad the posters saying ooh how expensive who'd want to live in London blah blah. I always wonder why they care so much!

I think it's a nice light and bright flat. I wouldn't assume everyone will be posh. I live in a posh area of London and I would say the majority here are not posh, plenty of them living in flats or renting or council.

You want the Fens.
Loads of houses with land for very little. Also a long way for jobs and not much else going for it. But cheap. Friend bought an Elizabethan manor with a few acres and stables for under £600k
