Where to get a stopgap sofa with fast delivery?

We are moving in a week out and still don’t have a sofa as currency renting. Where is the best place to get something quick that will still be comfortable and not too expensive if we decide to replace it in a bit? Haven’t seen much in local charity shops or on Marketplace so looking to buy something online. We have one from Habitat in our rented place which is super uncomfortable so probably not from there.

Without a doubt IKEA. Solid, cheap, surprisingly good quality and fast delivery, mine arrived in 3 days.

Rollercoaster1920 · 14/11/2023 10:28

Or freecycle / Freagle / trash Nothing.

Mamette · 14/11/2023 10:28

IKEA - no brainer

MaggieFS · 14/11/2023 10:28

Yep, Ikea.

ladygindiva · 14/11/2023 10:29

Oh and mines SUPER comfortable ; it's the ektorp, not sure if they still make it though. I heard talk of it being discontinued. And don't be put off by the self assembly aspect, mine was super easy for me and I'm crap at things like that.

Pinkitydrinkity0 · 14/11/2023 10:30

IKEA definitely. I’ve had a few from there and the most comfortable is the Kivik but it’s not the prettiest if that matters to you! I had it for about 7 years and it was great.

The Parup is not comfy but it was good for a small space.

Do you have a Next outlet near you? They sell ex display furniture in the one near me.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 14/11/2023 10:38

Bargain corner in ikea too for ex display
TK maxx often have lovely sofas

KievLoverTwo · 14/11/2023 11:12

Dunelm.

GasPanic · 14/11/2023 11:27

I use nabru because they are easy to assemble disassemble.

One of the big issues with sofas for me is when you want to dispose of them. They are hard to sell because no one has the truck to take them away. But you can dissassemble a Nabru sofa easily and sell it on or easily move it to a new room. You can even buy new covers to replace the old ones and get a practically new sofa. The covers are removable and washable.

They do look a bit boxy though, and I am not sure of the DT. But they are very practical.

I you are only looking for something for a couple of weeks maybe you could survive with a blow up/air bed sofa until you get a better one. These don't tend to last too long though IME.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 14/11/2023 11:53

Thanks all for the advice! Will look into all of these. Are the Nabru ones comfy? I know it’s subjective but really worried about spending too much on something that’s uncomfortable. We don’t have a Next outlet nearby but have a Dunelm so we could try some there. I have a bad back at the moment so not sure if a blow up one would work for us. It will probably be needed for a few months but also open to keeping the stopgap one for a few years if comfy enough (to get us past the messy toddler stage). We had planned to shop around a bit more but a bad period of toddler illness and no sleep has prevented that and now I’m panicking about not being ready for the move.

Furniture Village has a clearance section on their website and all the sofas in that section can be delivered within 7 days.

Solongnow · 14/11/2023 12:02

Next clearance online sometimes has some, delivery is usually quick for the sale ones, we got ours from there.

GasPanic · 14/11/2023 12:03

Nabru are on the firmer side if you ask me, but comfy isn't objective.

I didn't think they were that cheap last time I checked, but then everything has gone up massively in the sofa world so maybe they are.

Edit : Maybe you can get a Black Friday deal somewhere.

wineymummy · 14/11/2023 12:06

Swyft should come in 24 hours. Not cheap but we love ours. It's really comfy and looks great.

Solongnow · 14/11/2023 12:06

You could get a couple of Strandmon armchairs instead from Ikea, they aren't too bad, we have a couple for when visitors come

DugInLikeAnAlabamaTick · 14/11/2023 12:09

Argos

we wanted the Ektorp but did not realise that you had to bloody build it yourself, we were moving and did not have time for that

Octavia64 · 14/11/2023 12:10

I have a couple of weeks ago bought an IKEA kivik.

Took about an hour to assemble but on the plus side, can be sis-assembled easily to sell or move again.

The covers come off completely so it can be washed if it gets stains etc and or you can change.

Only downside is the side supports aren't very high.

oranga · 14/11/2023 12:23

I recently bought a habitat sofa via Argos. Came in a week and easy to put together

Spacie · 14/11/2023 13:01

I bought a pair of Ektorps as a 'stopgap' 13 years ago. They are still going strong. In fact never getting your forever sofa is probably the main risk!

They were pretty easy to put together (or would have been if one of them hadn't initially been supplied with 2 right arms.)

SoupDragon · 14/11/2023 13:10

I immediately thought Ikea. They're excellent.

Summerhillsquare · 14/11/2023 14:22

Your local British Heart Foundation shop. Recycle, support charity at the same time. They'll gladly take it back when you no longer need it too.

KirstenBlest · 14/11/2023 14:26

Freecycle. Look at the pages for local areas if there isn't one in your area.

SpicyPasta · 14/11/2023 14:26

We got one on Amazon.

jolies1 · 14/11/2023 14:30

Not cheap (although they have 30% off now for Black Friday) but I got a Snug mainly because it was delivered in 48 hours and comes apart in 4 pieces for moving / selling. Has come with us from flat to house and will sell on replace after toddler years.
