Just that really! If you have one do you love it or regret it?

Quooker is the only hot water tap that delivers water at 100 degrees. It stores the water at above 100 in the tank.

Not true. My Grohe does this too.

Well, 99.9° in fact, so almost 100.

TizerorFizz · 05/11/2023 18:18

So does my Franke. We have filtered, boiling, standard hot and cold. You push down for boiling and it’s boiling! You get no water if you cease to push down. So if you push the tap handle down and stick your other hand under the water, then you really are an idiot. It’s clearly steaming hot instantly! We like ours but I have another sink in the kitchen and another is the laundry. It’s great for a quick drink and warming a dish as well as saving water. You never boil excess or waste fuel doing so. They just cost a lot!

We've just had a Qettle installed. It's obviously not cost effective, but I love it for convenience and a tidy worktop.

Like the Quooker, it has a great safety feature that makes it incredibly difficult to accidentally scald yourself.

VintedoreBay · 05/11/2023 18:34

Seems like most people are in the yes camp then!

We're wondering whether the nearly boiling 98degree ones are much different to the 100 degree ones as slightly cheaper. Any thoughts?

Had them in several houses and wouldn't be without one, just love the convenience and not having a kettle on the worktop.
Would definitely say go for one of the 100 degree taps if you are a fussy tea drinker like me. We once went for a Fohen as seemed like a good buy but it was only 98 degrees and I could really tell with tea drinking. Luckily we weren't in that house for long.

Yes if you drink tea. The lower temp one leaves a slight froth/film on the tea.

A family member had one
The tea made with it was rotten.

Because the water sits there in the tank, freshly drawn water should be used for tea

We use ours for tea every day and it is not distinguishable from a kettle. Maybe we use ours sufficiently often to turn the water over? I suspect many don't refill their kettles every time they make tea?

olderbutwiser · 05/11/2023 19:23

DMIL has had a cheaper one put in and it's rubbish, like office tea, just not hot enough and definitely not boiling.

Our Quooker makes proper boiling water tea. I would be very wary of anything cheaper.

We had one and it wasn't boiling hot water for tea (OK for coffee) but judging by the answers that is not most peoples experience so maybe we were unlucky , we had ours a while back and maybe improved a lot since then.

I do! 🙋 I refill the kettle every time.
I love tea.

We've got them at work. No way do they boil water for tea at the correct temperature.

Crazymadchickenlady · 05/11/2023 19:35

I love our Quooker and would replace it straight away if it broke.

So 100degrees it will have to be then as an avid tea drinker, if we go for it.

Is there anywhere that allows you to test them out before getting one? It's a lot to spend if we're not sure!

I absent mindedly washed my hands in my friend's one the other day. So no, not for me

Weird. Our boiling 'hot' tap has to be double tapped and then turned and is separate to the handle of the normal hot and cold tap.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 05/11/2023 19:39

We installed one at work to save our staff waiting for kettles to boil. None of them will use it as it doesn't get hotter than 98c.... so was a complete waste. DH was not impressed. It cost a plumber for the morning as well as the tap so not a cheap investment.

Having said that, it was a cheap Screwfix one and you'd have to be pretty clever to get the boiling water by accident as it's very safe. We said that when we remodel our kitchen at home, we'll put a Quooker one in.

ladeluge · 05/11/2023 19:52

I've just had a new kitchen. I toyed with the idea of a Qooker thing, but got the item linked below instead and saved nearly £1k. I used that money to top up my budget for white goods and went for the best I could afford. Money well saved and spent IMO.

Anyway, I got a Kitchen Master hot water dispenser. It sits on the countertop at the peninsula bar, and I find it really great TBH. It holds 2.5L and I could not believe that the full tank heated to boiling in a few seconds, not sure how they do that, but I am happy. Only need to fill the tank once a day mostly. So convenient. It won't suit everyone, but it sure suits me!

The one I have is 98 degrees. As I used one at work several times a day, preCovid before WFH so was used to it. You get used to the very slight taste difference quickly. If you have access to be able to try one at work / at a friends definitely try. I put a link earlier to the brand of 3 in 1 I have. It was the same as my kitchen fitters. If it was good enough for him, was good enough for me. 😃

ColleenDonaghy · 05/11/2023 20:11

We've had a Qettle for about six months. I do love it, although I don't know if I would say it's worth it per se as they are expensive. We got it through our builder for a decent price as part of a much bigger project and so went ahead - I wouldn't have bothered as a standalone thing.

I think it's only the Qettle and Quooker that do actual boiling water at 100c, open to correction on that but a lot don't go quite that high.

It would be hard to wash your hands under the boiling water. I have on occasion washed my hands directly after using the boiling tap without running it and yelped but it hasn't actually done any damage. You have to press a button and turn a knob to run the boiling water, whereas the normal hot and cold are a lever on the other side so hard to get mixed up.

Fifireee · 05/11/2023 20:21

How do you need one unless you run a cafe? Isn’t it cheaper and easier to boil a kettle rather than keep water boiling bit all day? How often are you going to use it? Maybe in a staff room or a cafe but not in a house.

I'm actually already familiar with this. My ILs swapped the kettle for this when they refit and needed to adapt for age and failing health as they couldn't manage the kettle any more. I wouldn't be happy with it for myself though, not great tea, and for some reason I've found the water temp doesn't retain heat, particularly tea goes cold very quickly!? A good alternative suggestion though, thank you.

Not a need necessarily but a nice to have when spending a fortune replacing the kitchen already.

Loooove mine! Stayed in an air bnb last month and forgot how much waiting for a kettle to boil is annoying 🤣

Mine (insinkerator) is not something that could be used in error- i scalded myself once by putting my hand where the cup should have gone, but I've don't that with a kettle in the past, too (hand eye coordination is not my talent).
