Just that really! If you have one do you love it or regret it?

How much do they cost to run if they have boiling/chilled water at the ready at all times?

A friend made me a cup of tea from theirs the other day. It wasn’t as hot as I would have liked. We don’t have one but I wouldn’t be looking to put one in after that.

Oh no! I would be devastated if we put one in and it didn't make a decent cup of tea!

How are they in hard water areas? We are in a really hard water area....

Love mine, wouldn't be without it now.

I absent mindedly washed my hands in my friend's one the other day. So no, not for me

Friend did the same a few weeks back when we at another friend's for supper. We decided definitely not if you have children or vulnerable relatives.

Well I suppose "are they worth it" depends on whether you think shelling out around £1k, maintenance charges and running costs (they are going to cost more than a kettle but maybe not much more) are worth it vs. a £20 kettle.

Some people clearly do, I suspect a lot of others don't.

This isn't true. It actually costs much less to run than a kettle.

@VintedoreBay I have a Grohe red duo which was a lot less than £1000 when I bought it a couple of years ago, although they have gone up it seems. I love it. My wife and I were saying yesterday that it is one of the things we love more than any other gadget. The others being the water softener, and the log burner.

We got the one with the water filter and it's worth the extra. B&Q have them on special from time to time.

It takes up a fair bit of space in the cabinet below, but there is still room for other stuff. It does way more than a kettle too as you will use it for cooking. No more waiting for a pot to boil for veg, pasta, anything. And obviously tea and coffee are literally on tap.

RedRiverShore4 · 05/11/2023 17:13

I would probably find it useful for cooking vegetables and stuff like that but I like my coffee to use water at 90-95c and DH likes freshly drawn water for tea so it would be a no for drinks for us.

Most should have a double push switch to prevent this. It isn't possible to activate the one we have by accident.

CanIPetThatDawg · 05/11/2023 17:16

I don't drink tea or coffee so wouldn't be fussed about having boiling water on tap but really fancy one of the models that gives you filtered sparkling water.

Manadou · 05/11/2023 17:19

They sound like a recipe for scalding injuries. I'd never have one. A kettle costs a lot less than a grand FGS.

olderbutwiser · 05/11/2023 17:20

Absolutely love my boiling water Quooker. But it's a bit of a luxury. Ours supplies all the hot water to the kitchen as the hot water tank is a long way away so a tad more justifiable.

FirstFallopians · 05/11/2023 17:24

People who have them wax lyrical about them, but I can’t see the attraction personally.

My previous workplace had one- I could see the point there as they were avoiding staff hanging around the kitchen waiting on a kettle boiling multiple times per day.

But in a domestic setting I just don’t get it? Even a cheapy Screwfix version is £250, just to do the same job as a kettle.

Wormthatturned · 05/11/2023 17:26

As A&E staff, I'd say they're never a good idea - seen too many accidental scalds.

iwantabreakfastpantry · 05/11/2023 17:31

We are doing a kitchen reno and I have read a lot of threads both here and on fb about the “must haves” or things that people absolute love about theirs - a boiling water tap features consistently on these.

I wonder which makes these are. Various friends have them and it is impossible to accidentally turn on the boiling water (not sure which make they have, though)

TerfTalking · 05/11/2023 17:34

Every time this is asked on MN I come on and say YES!

I’ve had a Quooker for 14 years now, only just replaced it when I had a new kitchen fitted in August, for another updated one.In all this time, I’ve had two services and a replacement spout.

if you cook, and you have lots of drinks I couldn’t be without it. If you don’t like cooking and don’t drink hot drinks I don’t see the point though. I use it for everything from putting boiling water on cloths to wipe down to using it for the mop bucket, to filling pans to making countless cups of tea a day.

I have never, nor anyone in my house, scalded ourselves on one, if anything the new ones are a pain to turn on. You have to double “pump” the rim before water is dispatched. It’s no different from a kettle with regard to burning and probably safer, given a boiled kettle can be just tipped.

IME if you’re a kitchen lover get one, but don’t get cheap.

Specifically From kettle taps or kettles and boiling pans? 🤨

WestNotEast · 05/11/2023 17:37

I have a Quooker, it has a safety feature to activate it so there is no way you could do this by accident. You have to push down twice in quick succession on a collar. Other taps usually have a push down feature so I am not sure how people are accidently scolding themselves. If you try to just turn the handle it doesn't come on, I previously had an Insinkerator tap which was a separate mini tap and you had to push it down.

As both the boiling (actually 100 degrees for a Quooker) water shares the same tap as the cold/hot you are able to activate both at once, this means if you need to wash out say a pan you can start the cold water running and then activate the boiling water to have very hot water coming out of the tap to be able to wash up items.

The Quooker can also do filtered and fizzy water too. We have no regrets whatsoever. Love the Quooker.

Need more filter changes. I’m Yorkshire so very soft water. My filters were changed on service, but the technician said they weren’t bad.

Katrinawaves · 05/11/2023 17:40

We had one when the kitchen was redone about 10 years ago. Loved it but it stopped working during Covid lockdown and I got used to not having it and I’ve never got round to having it replaced. So maybe it was a luxury not a must have for me - though I haven’t ruled out getting it replaced eventually!

Pumpy001 · 05/11/2023 17:41

I have the 5 in 1 and wouldn't be without it. We drink a lot of tea, chilled filtered water is great for dinner, sparkling water for occasion .absolutely love it!

moetmoet · 05/11/2023 17:44

We have the quooker that does the boiling and filtered water.

I wouldn't live without it now, instant hot water for drinks and pans. The filtered water is great too, takes that icky metallic taste away.

We have had many a guest and the tank has never run dry. Another poster mentioned it being at the sink, and the person making the drink could be in the way. This has never happened to us, it's so quick, it take 3 seconds to fill a cup, max!

Crikeyalmighty · 05/11/2023 17:48

We had one when we lived in Denmark and I do miss it!!

Teddleshon · 05/11/2023 17:48

Couldn’t live without it, our hot water took ages to get hot in the kitchen and the Quokker is wonderful for cooking. As others have said the quokker has a double pump action but also the stream of water is designed to prevent accidental scalding.

FantasticElasticBand · 05/11/2023 18:07

Quooker is the only hot water tap that delivers water at 100 degrees. It stores the water at above 100 in the tank.
