It just seems to show the temperature, but not control the heating st all. Confused

Is it a hive one? What kind is it?

I took that photo a few weeks back it's definitely not 21 today!

Why doesn’t it control the heating? If you press the up arrow doesn’t it set the room temperature so if you set it higher than the current temp the heating goes on?

then does half of it fold down so you can access controls under the white bit? Or has your boiler a clock on it for setting the time it comes on and off?

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 03/11/2023 19:43

That's a room stat, we have the same. You need to programme the times you want on your boiler control first and then you can use that to put the temp up or down.

Candyflosscrochet · 03/11/2023 19:51

I had a honeywell set up when I moved into my house a few years ago. Somewhere will be the main unit, either near your boiler or by the water tank if you have one. Google the make and you should be able to download the instructions. That unit pictured is the controls and there is likely a flap which if you open, may show you what buttons to press to set it all up!
It was a pain but once set up worked well.
We now have hive as we replaced the boiler.

hexsnidgett · 03/11/2023 19:57

There is a rather archaic looking clock on the front of the boiler. I have tried to use it to set the times, but it doesn't seem to work properly.

I’ve had two wireless Honeywell thermostats and both only lasted about five years.

we got rid and got a Hive, it was like being transported to 2023 from 1973, get rid of it, it’s probably duff.

Candyflosscrochet · 03/11/2023 20:09

Lift up the flap on the unit you've pictured. Are there instructions there?

hexsnidgett · 03/11/2023 20:10

Hmm. We need to get the boiler serviced, so might have to ask about upgrading. Our old boiler and thermostat were about 20 years old, but seemed more modern than this which is only supposed to 10?!

Candyflosscrochet · 03/11/2023 20:10

I know this isn't exactly your unit but it should be similar to this...

Anyone know how this thermostat works?
hexsnidgett · 03/11/2023 20:11

There isn't a flap, I don't think.

OP posts:
Fi269 · 03/11/2023 20:11

Lift the front flap; there are controls underneath. You will be be able to programme it to turn on whatever device it is attached to, at certain times every day.
If you upload a photo of under the flap, I will try to explain how

The 21c in the front is the current or target temperature in the room, you can boost this up or down with those little arrows in the picture but it does all depend on what is programmed underneath the flap.

hexsnidgett · 03/11/2023 20:14

Just a battery compartment under the flap sadly. The ones other people have posted are very like my old one.

Try pressing the UP ^ arrow to a very high temperature and see if the radiators start to get hotter?

december2020 · 03/11/2023 20:19

This should be the manual

CatchHimDerry · 03/11/2023 20:20

I hd similar with underfloor heating. Separate room stats.

You set each one to the desired temp for that room like PP have suggested?

Say bedroom, it’s set to 18. Under 18, UFH comes on in that room. 18 or up, it’s off.
Could then press up arrow to change temp and force it on if I was cold, back down lower to switch off.

Each room had its own one, so didn’t have to have heating on for the whole house at any one time

Maybe it’s one of these

december2020 · 03/11/2023 20:22

It'll probably be connected to the photo a PP out which lets you control the times the heating is on.

That thing will likely be where your boiler or hot water tank is.

hexsnidgett · 03/11/2023 20:27

That manual looks right. Thanks so much! I will have fiddle in the morning.
There's only one for the house.

Have a look for the model number and see if there’s a YouTube video. I had a similar unit and there was a model number in tiny text.

ScaredSceptic · 04/11/2023 00:12

I have that exact room stat, there are no controls under the flap, only the buttons you can see in the OPs photo. As others have suggested, you just use the up and down arrows to set the desired temperature for the central heating.

It's just a room stat, it doesn't control what time the heating comes on, just the desired temperature. OP, it sounds like the clock you mentioned on the boiler should control what time the heating/hot water comes on.

fedupandstuck · 04/11/2023 00:31

We have that exact same thermostat too. It's simple in itself. The display shows the current temp in the room it's in. You press the up and down buttons to set the target temperature. That's it.

When your heating is on altogether is controlled by the boiler switch/dial.

Paul2023 · 04/11/2023 00:35

Maybe get British Gas to come and service your boiler. They will be keen to install the hive for you , you’ll get a new thermostat anyway and you can control the heating with the phone. They’ll set it all up for you.

You could just join homecare from BG, get them to do all this and then leave ?

Hive is about £200 but well worth it , we’ve had ours 6 years and it’s all good still.

The specific steps for setting a Honeywell Home thermostat can depend on the model you have.

Here's a general guide on how to set a Honeywell Home thermostat:

Access the Menu:
On most Honeywell thermostats, press the "Menu" button. This may be labeled as such or as "Settings."

Navigate the Menu:
Use the arrow keys or touchscreen (if applicable) to navigate through the menu options.

Select Temperature Control:
Look for an option related to temperature control or temperature settings in the menu.

Adjust Set Temperature:
Once you've found the temperature control option, you should be able to adjust the set temperature. Use the arrow keys or touchscreen to increase or decrease the desired temperature.

Set Schedule (if applicable):
Some Honeywell thermostats allow you to set a schedule for different times of the day. If this is a feature of your thermostat, navigate to the scheduling option and set the desired temperatures for various periods.

Save Changes:
After you've adjusted the temperature settings, navigate to the option to save or confirm your changes.

Exit Menu:
Once you have set the desired temperature and saved the changes, exit the menu to return to the main screen.

Verify Operation:
Check that the thermostat is displaying the correct set temperature, and the heating or cooling system responds accordingly.

hexsnidgett · 04/11/2023 11:50

Eugh! I have tried setting it to a target temperature according to the manual, but it didn't cut out when it reached that temperature it just keeps going!
