Green kitchen?

Renovating a large Victorian terrace. Kitchen/diner is in basement and will open out onto garden with either sliders or crittal doors. What do you think of a green kitchen? I like navy but worried it will look too dark.

Love it, it's so classic. Looks great with black, white, cream or steel kitchen machines and necessities too.

DaftQuestionForToday · 24/10/2023 10:27

I'm sorry but I personally don't like that colour (but I'm not living at your house, you are, but you asked....)

I don't think a navy will make the kitchen look any darker, than the dark green.

Flewtheflue · 24/10/2023 11:21

I love the green! In a large Victorian kitchen I think it will look gorgeous!

KievLoverTwo · 24/10/2023 11:25

Everyone is doing navy. Go green.

PerspiringElizabeth · 24/10/2023 11:26

I like it but EVERYONE is doing green at the moment. We are getting a new kitchen in Jan and have been planning it for 2+ years (don’t ask) - originally we were going to do cream outer cabinets and navy island, but now I know 3 people who have done just that so nope 😄 I do like the green but don’t want the avocado suite of the future ha.

Davros · 24/10/2023 11:31

Oh no, green or blue! It looks nice but I think it's very popular at the moment.

Beginningless · 24/10/2023 11:32

I think it’s lovely. You can always refresh it later if it was to date.

bilbodog · 24/10/2023 11:33

Ive had 2 green and off/white kitchens but using a lighter green - F&B churlish green. Ive always done the wall cupboards in off white and have an old pine freestanding dresser so this breaks up the look. Ive had full stave iroko work tops as well. The photo shows my current kitchen which i had spray painted. I prefer wooden worktops but cant afford to change them atm.

It’s a no from me. I do love navy though as I think it’s a timeless colour.

MollyRover · 24/10/2023 11:36

Looks great but wouldn't go for those worktops, I would go for something white.

bombastix · 24/10/2023 11:36

V nice!

Silkiefloof · 24/10/2023 11:37

I think that colour will look as dark as navy. I am not keen on dark coloured kitchens, but go with what you like.

FeverBeam · 24/10/2023 11:45

There are a lot of navy kitchens and dark green kitchens at the moment. I'm not massively keen on that particular shade of green, I prefer something closer to sage. Pick the colour you love though. The great thing about kitchens is it's relatively easy to give them a facelift via repainting, if you're bored of the green 10 years from now.

Geneticsbunny · 24/10/2023 12:57

We went for a 1930s style bright green for the kitchen units and I love it.

Jewelspun · 24/10/2023 13:08

I don't like the green in the photo.

What about a softer green?

@Jewelspun that is gorgeous

vrouge · 24/10/2023 13:19

I personally love a dark green kitchen - we've just done ours in F&B Studio Green but we've kept everything else light so that it doesn't make the kitchen feel too heavy or dark. It also depends on how much natural light you can get in your basement

Flockameanie · 24/10/2023 13:21

I prefer the op’s dark green to the one in @Jewelspun’s pic.

Go for what you love though. That’s what I’m doing

Parttimewoes · 24/10/2023 13:27

Having just had my kitchen done this summer, I agree green is very now, and that navy is on its way out. It’s lovely and I was tempted but as it’s such an expensive purchase I was desperate not to regret it. Instead I went for neutral cabinets and used colour (green and dark blue actually! 😂) in other ways in the room to add interest, and which can be changed more easily than the kitchen itself. Do what you love at the end of the day but just be as sure as you can be that you won’t go off it as styles change.

Stephisaur · 24/10/2023 13:33

I personally love a green kitchen and think it would look lovely in the house you have described.

I really liked the concept of a navy kitchen until I saw one in person, I find they look quite cheap in some cases!

When we redo our kitchen we will go dark green (fir green from howdens) with marble effect counters and some accents of walnut.

JustWimpy · 24/10/2023 14:35

Love the dark greens and navy. The mid greens like sage look a bit dated to me now.

Exactly! Totally on the way out. The new grey

I mean if being on the cutting edge of kitchen fashion is your concern then it's swung back round to real wood. Pale woods. Navy and greens are very much out.

bombastix · 24/10/2023 15:17

Confession; I have a white kitchen. But might like a wood one next time

MaybeSmaller · 24/10/2023 15:33

This is the crux of it. Unless you're planning to redecorate your kitchen every year you won't stay at the cutting edge for long.

If it's a nice colour and looks good then chances are other people have picked it as well. Some people may well have picked the same colour 5 years ago and now consider it dated. Different strokes. You aren't going to have a unique kitchen unless you paint it Mr. Blobby pink with yellow spots.

FWIW I really like the colour in the OP. I think I prefer it to navy but that's just me.
