Can you share where it was from, roughly how much it cost (a bracket if you like) and whether you're happy with it...

We need ours done and feeling totally overwhelmed by the options, cost and fear of spending so much and making a bad choice...

Handmade kitchen of Christchurch. L shape plus island (around 5m square). Units were 11,500
Quartz 3k
Paint £200 (did it ourselves)
Appliances £3k
Fitting £1k

This is so much cheaper than the rough quote we had.. why is that? Ours is similar size kitchen if not smaller. Area of the country?

Kutchenhaus. About £12 but large kitchen. We kept most of our appliances as we have integrated anyway. Got our own fitter and a local company to fit the quartz worktops. Really love it.

Whalewatchers · 22/10/2023 19:58

Wren kitchen. Lots of damaged doors. Received replacements and only 4/14 were okay, ten damaged! Wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Hi! We had ours done earlier this year by Howdens.
Our kitchen is maybe 3.5m by 2.8m
Kitchen plus appliances was £11000.
The kitchen units minus the appliances were £6500.
The builder charged £1600 to fit it all. Just a note on the builder though, we were having the whole house done so maybe the cost of the kitchen fitout is maybe a less than if he were to do just the kitchen and not rest of the house.
Floor tiles £800

I'm super happy with Howdens. They designed the kitchen really well and their quality seems really good.

Editing to add that we are in London and our worktops are fake wood effect (sorry the exact term has completely escaped me right now). But it's the sort of low maintenance thing we need with a new baby.

Silkiefloof · 22/10/2023 20:00

We've had a local joiner in and got joiner made wooden units of bespoke sizes, handpainted, plinth, mini Range, integrated dishwasher and integrated fridge, tiling, painting of room, ceramic sink, extractor, solid oak worktop, new lighting (spotlights), disposal of old stuff, new blinds roughly £12k for everything but is a small kitchen. Very happy with it. Will need to do flooring as well which may be another £1k or so.

Anon1072 · 22/10/2023 20:03

We have just paid £45K for a bespoke in frame kitchen with stone workshops, from a local independent retailer. White goods were included in this, but not the range cooker.

CampervanKween · 22/10/2023 20:03

We did get a wren quote but Kutchenhaus said they would match it and I joined a Facebook group about wren and there were so many disgruntled customers that it put me off

catherinewales · 22/10/2023 20:03

Wren and fitting from wren. Around £17k. With extras. We only got bosco oven and microwave that's an oven as well, induction hob and quooker tap. That includes quartz worktops but they wasn't bought from wren. We saved £1500 going to an independent and they fitted within 3 days of measuring.

This is more like the quotes we've been having in and frankly we can't afford it... but it needs to last and I feel torn about waiting another 3/4 years or cracking on with Howden's

I put a deposit down about 18 months before during the sale so we got the previous years sale prices. We also kept things very simple - wide units, removed unnecessary drawers, wide larder units.

Baxdream · 22/10/2023 20:13

We also got worktops from Gemini, Qettle tap not Quooker, John Lewis ovens in the sale, discount American fridge, hob was 50% off, extracter 20% blue light discount.

We prioritised the units over everything! Painted ourselves with Farrow and ball (bought in the sale).

The units are beautiful (as is the kitchen)!

This seems amazingly good value for independent. What area of the country are you in?

Bristol

We had a Howdens kitchen fitted in 2017 and I've been impressed at the quality. It's as good as the day it was fitted. Hard wearing units and I think it'll last another 20 years. Can't remember the price but I think it came in around £10k. Fitted by a local joiner. I personally couldn't have waited 3 or 4 years to get a hand built kitchen (v impatient person) but actually I don't think it would have been worth paying more for one anyway. I'd get it done now and you can start enjoying it! 😁

Crazycatlady83 · 22/10/2023 21:17

DIY kitchens, £5k kitchen and appliances (AEG), £2600 fitting from a local chap. It's bloody marvellous!

Wickes quoted us £18k!

Bellyblueboy · 22/10/2023 22:02

Didn’t go through a kitchen service - my builder did it so he bought the cabinets and doors at source.

painted wooden kitchen, quartz worktops, island, wine fridge, two ovens, boiling water tap, two larder cupboards.

sourced my own appliances and handles - yesterday one.

came in at £11k

was quoted similar from a local kitchen place for lower quality appliances and doors.

We did our last year. Ikea kitchen and worktop came in around 2.5k, bought appliances separately. Husband is a joiner so fitted it. We did knock a wall out, and put steels in, move the entire kitchen, new flooring, plastering, back doors, windows, electrics, move the boiler.... came in around 10k.
And no.one ever guesses it's an ikea kitchen.

SupermarketMum · 22/10/2023 22:23

We’re getting ours with Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch, it’s a large-ish kitchen, and kitchen + utility cabinets are coming in at c £16k.

Is that before fitting costs and anything else eg flooring/decorating?

I bought units off Facebook marketplace. After adding new worktops the kitchen cost me about £2k including fitting. It's not for everyone but worth considering if you're on a budget.

annonymousse · 22/10/2023 23:10

Local independent company. £17000 for made to measure units and all fitting. We bought the appliances and they fitted those too. With the appliances including American style ff it came to just over £20000.

Was just going to write exactly this. No problems at all and it really does look just as good as the day it was fitted.

MollyButton · 22/10/2023 23:25

Just had my second Howdens kitchen (moved from first home). About £10k including cooker, I already had dishwasher and fridge freezer. Pretty good size, fitting rolled into general building works so can't give a figure.
The build is as good as a lot of designer kitchens much better than diy ones.
