Small Bathroom Revamp - Ideas and Inspiration Please!

I'm thinking of revamping my small bathroom, and after thoughts and inspiration!

I'm considering getting rid of the bath and replacing with a shower only. I'd like a low rise shower tray with screens to create a kind of enclosure a bit like this one: https://www.lussostone.com/showers-c6/infinity-complete-walk-in-shower-enclosure-kit-b-chrome-all-sizes-p5153/s7926?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=infinity-walk-in-shower-enclosure-kit-b-1200-x-800-chrome-finish-matte-white-tray-size-1200-x-800mm-finish-matte-white-tray-size-1200-x-800mm-33122-80120m-dy-611-bl70195-bl70195-yp320c-yp320c-yp321c-yp322c&utm_campaign=product+listing+ads&cid=GBP&glCurrency=GBP&glCountry=GB&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI99z8psD6gQMViIZQBh2ybQfJEAkYBCABEgIWKPD_BwE

The tray could be the size of the bath to take up that full wall. Or a little bit shorter and then I could have a shelving thing at the side like this type of thing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Christow-Ladder-Storage-Display-Bathroom/dp/B07R5ZR425/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=Bathroom+Ladder+Shelf&qid=1697457327&sr=8-8

I'm considering herringbone tiling like this: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/green-bathroom-tile-herringbone-format--291819250863357128/

But I'm not sure about the tiling: What colour? Should I have tiling on every wall? If not, which walls? And what to have on the other non-tiled walls? And what should I have on the floor?

I don't really want to replace the toilet and sink/unit but I'm not absolutely opposed to doing so!

Please help! I'd be so grateful for any ideas. If you'd be happy to send your small bathroom pictures, I would really welcome that!

This is my en-suite which is smaller than your room but we have a shower set up like you are considering.
We only tiled the walls in the shower area; partly to save on costs and I prefer a clean aesthetic and it's less tiles to clean!!
It's a bit messy as I haven't cleaned it for a few days but you can get the gist

I've got a walk-in shower with a 1400 x 800 tray with a 900mm screen down the side and a screen at the end. No flipper panel and no issues with water coming out the side, although we have an overhead shower which I think helps.

Thank you!

@MavisTheMonkey That looks lovely and, yes, very close to the kind of set-up I have/want.

I am in the same situation. I have a corner shower and want to replace it with bath and shower over. I would love a Japanese bath but want a shower too. I have no idea how to go about it or where to start. Been quotes about £12,000 by a bathroom company. I’m not paying that.

Our house in Japan had a wet room with the bath in it. So you shower outside the bath and then sit in it. The toilet was separate. Many of the houses we saw were like that.

CatherinedeBourgh · 19/10/2023 12:47

Mavis, do you mind telling me the measurements of your bathroom? I want something like that and struggling to figure out how much space I need to allocate so it won't look crowded.

Trevorton · 19/10/2023 12:51

@Martin83 That looks great but I'd be looking to replace all the tiles anyway so no issue about matching. I'm not sure I want the shower tray the full bath size/length, I'd like a bit of open space (but floor space) at the end of the tray.

OP, the only thing I would say about this point. Our old shower room needed to be replaced because it was leaking. It was leaking because they put a smaller shower tray than the space and finished the side with floor tiles. The grout gradually declined and caused the leak which I think had been going on a long time before we bought the house. I know I suggested Nuance boards and you can use this to tile that floor section but it would be sealed with sealant and I just wanted to point out that this may degrade over time. I personally would put the shower try the dimension exactly of the floor space and then have a shelf/hole cut into a wall for bottles etc. You can do this with the Nuance boards.

@IceIceBabyBump I don’t mind posting a few pictures it’s awkward getting it all in as it’s so small though hopefully these will give some sort of idea

The walk in shower & opposite wall is where the toilet & sink unit the wall down from the toilet is where the radiator is & opposite the radiator is the door into the bathroom, which does open outwards onto the landing which helps a bit.

dontcallmelen · 19/10/2023 13:33

A couple of more pictures possibly may help a bit the wall from the toilet towards the shower enclosure & the door opposite a small space of wall comes down from the sink then door then the fixed glass panel.
this may still be as clear as mud though!

@CatherinedeBourgh just got my tape measure out and it's bigger than I thought 1.9m x 1.95m.
When we were planning it I thought it was going to be really tight but it's actually relatively spacious

MavisTheMonkey · 19/10/2023 15:13

@dontcallmelen is that wallpaper above the tiles? I love it!

IceIceBabyBump · 19/10/2023 15:18

@dontcallmelen That looks gorgeous and makes sense! The wallpaper is lovely

@Trevorton Thank you so much, good to bear in mind Smile

Yes it is, from Woodchip&Magnolia.

CatherinedeBourgh · 19/10/2023 21:02

Thanks! That's very useful. And reassuring, I was worried 1.9 would be too narrow.
