Small Bathroom Revamp - Ideas and Inspiration Please!

I'm thinking of revamping my small bathroom, and after thoughts and inspiration!

I'm considering getting rid of the bath and replacing with a shower only. I'd like a low rise shower tray with screens to create a kind of enclosure a bit like this one: https://www.lussostone.com/showers-c6/infinity-complete-walk-in-shower-enclosure-kit-b-chrome-all-sizes-p5153/s7926?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=infinity-walk-in-shower-enclosure-kit-b-1200-x-800-chrome-finish-matte-white-tray-size-1200-x-800mm-finish-matte-white-tray-size-1200-x-800mm-33122-80120m-dy-611-bl70195-bl70195-yp320c-yp320c-yp321c-yp322c&utm_campaign=product+listing+ads&cid=GBP&glCurrency=GBP&glCountry=GB&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI99z8psD6gQMViIZQBh2ybQfJEAkYBCABEgIWKPD_BwE

The tray could be the size of the bath to take up that full wall. Or a little bit shorter and then I could have a shelving thing at the side like this type of thing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Christow-Ladder-Storage-Display-Bathroom/dp/B07R5ZR425/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=Bathroom+Ladder+Shelf&qid=1697457327&sr=8-8

I'm considering herringbone tiling like this: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/green-bathroom-tile-herringbone-format--291819250863357128/

But I'm not sure about the tiling: What colour? Should I have tiling on every wall? If not, which walls? And what to have on the other non-tiled walls? And what should I have on the floor?

I don't really want to replace the toilet and sink/unit but I'm not absolutely opposed to doing so!

Please help! I'd be so grateful for any ideas. If you'd be happy to send your small bathroom pictures, I would really welcome that!

What are the measurements for the room? You might be able to fit a teeny Japanese bath in and still have space for a large shower if you wanted?

Tell me ore about Japanese baths! With links as I have this same problem
@IceIceBabyBump I actually love this shower set up! It looks very very modern, which I love!

At my son's apartment, we started with a bath and changed to a shower - it is lovely - so much more space and really feels luxurious!

I have a tiny bathroom (the only one in the house) and have switched to a walk in shower. It’s far more comfy than the old shower over the bath was. I have a tiny heated shower rail and a mirror with storage behind it.

dontcallmelen · 16/10/2023 18:45

I also have a tiny very awkward shaped bathroom & switched to a walk in shower it’s blinking bliss after the stupidly small bath/shower combo we had before, I had the shower enclosure fully tiled & the lower half of the walls & floors all in the same tiles & wallpapered the top half of the walls really pleased with how it turned out.

waltzingparrot · 16/10/2023 19:17

I love it when your floor tiles continue up the wall. That would be a real impact in dark green herringbone.

Having a cupboard and extra vanity top is great- have used these on residential projects

PositanoBay · 17/10/2023 16:01

@Geneticsbunny oh thank you so much! I'm totally inspired by them. I'm definitely going to start designing my bathroom today 🥰

I am in the same situation. I have a corner shower and want to replace it with bath and shower over. I would love a Japanese bath but want a shower too. I have no idea how to go about it or where to start. Been quotes about £12,000 by a bathroom company. I’m not paying that.

Trevorton · 17/10/2023 16:09

I literally just had my tiny en-suite done and had the tavistock legacy unit with molded sink in Flax. I absolute love it. Previously I had a free standing basin, toilet and a mirror cabinet, but now I have this unit and a big illuminated mirror. The bathroom company put in plinth lights that switch on as soon as you go into the bathroom.

With regards to tiling we went with Nuance boards, these are flat boards that look like tiles but are guaranteed to be totally waterproof and very little grout degradation. I should imagine much longer lasting and makes the job far far quicker. We had this as upstands over the unit and on the floor.

dontcallmelen · 17/10/2023 17:26

I also had a wall hung WC & wall hung sink unit with two deep drawers which gives an air of space as the as you can see the floor area, also easier to keep clean.

You can do the first bit yourself like taking off tiles. Then you need to find an independent one man band to fit it. It will be a hell of a lot cheaper than The Bath Store or a large chain

No idea how to plan it or measure it though!

Reallybadidea · 17/10/2023 18:48

You could look into having your door rehung so that it opens outwards rather than into the room. It might give you more options for layout

Martin83 · 17/10/2023 19:18

It's an easy job just take the bath out and fit the shower tray the same size as the bath (1700 x 700). You can have the glass 1200 so you are left with 500 as an open space.
The only problem is finding matching tiles to fill the sides of the bath which you are taking out.

Hi all

Thanks for the comments.

The room is 170cm by 200cm - photo with measurements attached!

So I don't think there'd be room for a soaking tub 😩

@waltzingparrot I love that but I don't think the bathroom is big enough to go for something so dramatic sadly.

I really like the idea of a floating loo and sink with drawers underneath to maximise visible floor space. Thank you.

@Martin83 That looks great but I'd be looking to replace all the tiles anyway so no issue about matching. I'm not sure I want the shower tray the full bath size/length, I'd like a bit of open space (but floor space) at the end of the tray.

@Trevorton Nuance is a great idea - not really thought about that before!

Please keep ideas and inspirations coming, all fantastic and so helpful.

Can you move the door? And do you want a walk in shower or would you be happy with a huge luxurious one with a sliding door? For a walk in I think you need about 190cm otherwise it sprays round the door where as a 90 by 120 shower would feel huge but give you space for something else on the same wall maybe?

IceIceBabyBump · 18/10/2023 14:31

I can't move the door. And I can't really have it opening out because we've only a small landing and a bedroom right next door so an opening-out door is really awkward.

We had the door opening out when we first moved in and changed it to this style 😅

I'm not too keen on sliding door showers, I'd prefer a walk-in but that's really interested about how much space is needed, thank you.

If you love a luxurious shower then do it. It is your bathroom after all.

dontcallmelen · 19/10/2023 10:25

Forgot to add I don’t have a shower tray the bathroom floor was tanked & I have one fixed glass panel & a narrower’flip’ panel that you open & close which then contains the water from the shower.

IceIceBabyBump · 19/10/2023 11:23

@Geneticsbunny I want to but I don't want it to end up looking shit so I need inspiration!

@dontcallmelen I think I get you. I wonder if you'd be willing to post a picture of your bathroom, please? I understand if not.
