Liverpool areas

So we are in the very early stages of looking to move to Liverpool. But I need some advice on areas!

We have 2 DC- primary age so really need to take schools into account.

I've been recommended South Liverpool: Aigburth/Calderstones but I have seen that you don't get much house for your money.

Where as Formby and other areas in the North of Liverpool you do.

So if anyone can share some wisdom on areas as we are happy to look anywhere really with good community, good schools etc.

Really ? Because ds sat the blue coat 11+ only a few years ago and there seemed to be quite a bit of concern from other parents around entrance exams for other state schools
in the city ? Although they aren’t labelled as grammar schools. Think Belvedere and the CofE school(st Hilda’s?) were mentioned. So I’d assumed there is something of a selective system in place for Liverpool.

I am north Liverpool, 30 seconds away from the countryside but not rural, so very convenient and beautiful at the same time.

Aughton and Ormskirk are beautiful, Southport is a little too far out imo but there's plenty more for your money in these areas AND you have good schools, very nice area etc.

My friend was going to move to Ainsdake. It's a lovely area. But as a PP said, it took nearly an hour to get from Liverpool and takes the same on the train.

It's not an hour on the train from Ainsdale to Liverpool. It's under 40 minutes.

Driving is hit and miss, depending on time of day. I can get to south Liverpool in 45 minutes on a good day. And the worst part about getting to the centre is when you're actually in the centre, not driving to the outskirts, in the main.

Belvedere exam is fair banding it's not based on ability it's a lottery. Liverpool college scraped their also fair banding exam too. St Hildas used to have a very small number of entrance exam places but they have scrapped the exam all together now. King David has a handful of music ability places

I would go to Heswall in the Wirral- smashing little town with great amenities plus merseyrail

I agree with this. Or Chester if you like a bit of city life.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/11/2023 10:07

@NoWordForFluffy it was when I went from Cressington.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/11/2023 11:51

@ImTheGoat Liverpool is my favourite city break- love it and we usually stay in Heswall at the pub .

Heswall station isn’t on Merseyrail, it’s on the Welsh line which goes from Bidston to Wrexham. It’s “naice “ but West Kirby is better for transport links to Liverpool.

Another vote for north Liverpool here. I grew up right next to Formby.

DanceMumTaxi · 09/11/2023 21:02

I agree with those saying Southport is a bit too far out. Plus Southport as a town has really declined in recent years. The town centre is really quite poor now in comparison to say 15 years ago. There are quite a few social issues in some parts of Southport too (not all obviously). I personally wouldn’t choose Southport if I wanted easy access to Liverpool.

Whathappensnow11 · 09/11/2023 21:07

Thank you all so much! I think we are looking around L17, L18, L19 and surrounding areas. But I'm also now looking up schools around those areas especially secondary schools.

I moved from South East London to North Liverpool, Waterloo, 7 years ago and love it here. Loads of independent shops, bars, restaurants, and I'm 15 minutes walk to the beach.

Hall84 · 09/11/2023 21:13

Hi OP we're south liverpool, L18 and a good primary school is right behind us. The house next door is currently on the market and a project. There are compromises (small garden) but we've added a loft conversion and have 4 bedrooms, 2 offices. I grew up in Southport and I'd prefer my DD grew up here

Mumaway · 09/11/2023 21:15

Have you considered The Wirral? Other side of the water to Liverpool and definitely not cheap, but mainly great places to live and good schools. Might give you the countryside feel you are used too but easy travel to town

Hiya,

We drove through Calderstones and we had a great feeling there. Have seen a few houses in L18 all project ones. And have also seen houses on the higher end where all the work has been done.

We haven't considered The Wirral to be fair as I think dh wants to be near the city. All of his friends are also on this side of the water too so that may also be a factor on deciding where to live.

I might message you if that's OK? As I think I may know which one you're talking about and I had saved as a favourite to go and view at some point if its still up.

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone can please help or lead me in the right direction.
I'm searching for a cousin I have not seen for over 40 years.
The last I knew she lived in childwall.

Do you have a name?

Perhaps try local facebook groups

I don’t know of any Childwall ones, but there is Penny Lane Gossip, Aigburth Gossip (don’t know why they have gossip in the name, they’re just normal local groups!)

starlightcan · 15/02/2024 13:42

@Jeanie27 You could also try the Echo

Jeanie27 · 15/02/2024 13:57
