What did your vendors leave?

Following on from other thread about what vendors took from house, one about what they left. My goddess of a vendor left washing machine, tumble dryer, two fridges, large freezer, beautiful arm chair, a few lovely upcycled little tables, mahoosive wardrobe, antique dresser, gorgeous wooden chest and all leftover paint named for each area of the house it belonged to. We were able to donate extra white goods etc to charities. Any other happy tales?

A single crutch and a pair of grey tights.

Yarnysaurus · 06/09/2023 19:52

Filth mostly.

happyhouse2 · 06/09/2023 19:54

These are not the happy tales I was hoping for Grin

A pair of pants behind the radiator, broken shelves, and her messy drawer still completely full of odds and ends. House was a tip!

Stardustkid · 06/09/2023 19:56

We found Viagra and no we didn’t use it

LargestSugarSmacks · 06/09/2023 19:57

A pair of male rubber pants behind a radiator and a tray of glass eyes (amongst other rubbish) in the loft.

Their brilliant very long washing line prop.

I always feel a bit bad as they bought the house next door so I can see the pathetic little one they have now.

We've lived here 21 years and we're great friends and even work together but it's never been mentioned 😁

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 06/09/2023 20:00

The bad: A poorly repaired ensuite and bathroom which resulted in both being ripped out and replaced at our own cost less than 3 months after moving in.

Home insurance refused to repair due to "wear and tear" I contacted my solicitor and he had receipts to proved that remedial works had been done. Our homebuyer survey didn't find any issues, but the house was sat empty for 8 months between us viewing and completing... the plumber showed us how badly the rooms had been fitted.

The good: brand new fridge, freezer and dishwasher, they did also leave blinds in most windows and curtain rails, and funky lampshades on all the lights.

The first house we bought the vendors left us a loft and shed full of their old crap, full ashtrays in every room and a pan full of stinking old grease on the cooker. The bathroom was so dirty it took me 3 packs of cleaning cloths to sort it. If I'd known back then that we could have gone back to the solicitors and complained about all the stuff they left then I would have but we just hired a skip at our own expense and slung it all in. The previous owner had the cheek to come round a couple of weeks later to ask for something they'd left behind and were most put out to be told it had been disposed of. Cheeky fuckers.

mogtheexcellent · 06/09/2023 20:01

Bottle of methodone in the kitchen cupboard. I actually didnt find it for nearly a year as it was in a space between two battens and around a corner so i couldnt see or feel it. I HAD cleaned the cupboard when moving in as well but it was only found when we were dismantling the cupboards during a refit.

When my parents moved house in the 70s I found the vendors had left their daughter's outgrown dolls' house for me. I was so happy!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/09/2023 20:03

Totally jealous about the tray of glass eyes.

I want a tray of glass eyes…

Notthisnotthat · 06/09/2023 20:03

A broken bed frame, a glass table, a mahogany display unit and other rubbish they couldn't flog on Facebook. Carpets covered in dog urine, we quickly learnt why there were so many plug in air fresheners, grass covered in dog poo.

UmbrellaSoldiers · 06/09/2023 20:04

Our first flat was like an air BnB when we moved in 😂 we had negotiated some of the furniture being left but honestly when we moved in it was like someone still lived there - cutlery in the kitchen drawer, fancy cocktail glasses in the cupboard, an amazing office desk which we still own and is one of the best quality items of furniture in our current house 😂 coasters, placemats, kettle...

Unfortunately they did also leave a shed full of garbage including a box of doll heads shudder

It was kinda like they just packed a suitcase of essentials and ran away as soon as the flat was sold. There was no ongoing chain so they weren't buying somewhere else, running away to Mexico I think 😂

A garden full of buried paint cans. Actually something nice, the neighbours left us cards, flowers and wine in the kitchen for us moving in.

our old flat, the last folk left the old water tank. Was super handy as we were VERY skint so took it to the scrappy.

Parents house which was empty for a while, an old unopened pack of tunes. They were so sticky that lifting them actually peeled the paint off the floor.

A nasty fridge
Gardening tools
10 plant cuttings

But took the lightbulbs... jeez

I haven't moved yet but I will say I was quite taken aback when we started viewing and most vendors where just casually dropping in 'I'm leaving this, and that, and will be sad to leave this behind' and I was thinking 'I don't want your old crap' but felt awkward saying that.

I don't mind a GOOD clean/working American style fridge/freeze (as granted they are hard to move) or anything 'fitted' being left (even though we will be redoing the kitchen anyway). Plus 'personally' I wouldn't mind a clean working dishwasher just to save me buying one as I have never had space for one previously. Other than that though I will be moving all my OWN belongings in.

I have no use for your MASSIVE dining room table or ridiculously dirty old (once again MASSIVE) bed & mattress or that dirty old broken chest freezer.

I'm also a first time buyer, I never get why people think that means I want their cast offs?

I'm a middle age woman and have had a house (rented) for 15 years, I own almost anything I could possibly need. Surely most 'first time buyers' now a days are established adults with all the household necessities all ready not 18 year old fledglings leaving their parents nest.

From the other thread though I do hope they don't pettily take the doors/handles/radiators, rip up the flooring and/or cut all the pipes/wires though.

Isn't it standard that anything 'attached' stays?

I feel the need to specify through the solicitor now I expect the french doors, wood flooring, claw foot bath and wood burning stove (which are all big reason I loved the house) to still be there when I move in now where as previously I would have just 'assumed'.

A pet cemetery.
Hidden behind a tree, marked graves. No children living in the house either.

Adults own pets too, they still need to put them somewhere when they die.

3peassuit · 06/09/2023 20:38

Their cat and a purple vibrator.

gluttonousgoldbug · 06/09/2023 20:43

House one - a king size wooden bedframe that they had broken (snapped clean through the wood!) and repaired - I assume both occurred with a hell of a lot of screws.

House two - A range master combi fuel range cooker with 1 gas and 1 electric oven and a 5ring hob including wok ring. It lasted us another 10 years after we moved in before it started to break. Loved that cooker. The replacement just isn't quite as good but we couldn't afford a new range master 😭

And their dyson. But they came back for the hoover.

gluttonousgoldbug · 06/09/2023 20:44

And when we moved out of house 1 we had to leave the sofa because we had to take the window out to get it in...

gluttonousgoldbug · 06/09/2023 20:46

Oh and I totally forgot house one had a cellar completely full of junk. Like an entire room filled with broken damp stuff. The only things we found worth keeping were an iron shoe last used by cobblers and an old fashioned iron - the sort that you put in the fire to heat up before you did your ironing. We kept both of those and they are used as door stops in house two!

illiterato · 06/09/2023 20:52

I’ve bought two houses where the vendor left all the furniture ( by agreement). First one moved overseas and that was super handy as I was a skint FTB with no furniture. Second one had it as a holiday home and didn’t want anything- he left all the kitchen stuff, pictures, the lot. Again, super handy as we were living overseas and all our furniture was there.

I also mentioned on the other thread that when I lived House as a kid the vendor left a live cockerel. That was less welcome.
