What did your vendors leave?

Following on from other thread about what vendors took from house, one about what they left. My goddess of a vendor left washing machine, tumble dryer, two fridges, large freezer, beautiful arm chair, a few lovely upcycled little tables, mahoosive wardrobe, antique dresser, gorgeous wooden chest and all leftover paint named for each area of the house it belonged to. We were able to donate extra white goods etc to charities. Any other happy tales?

A filthy old fridge that we had to pay to dispose of. We ended up paying a lot over the asking price so I wasn’t impressed, particularly as they hadn’t vacated when they were supposed to either so we ended up having to pay our removal men to sit around for 3 hours.

Badgersbottoms · 08/09/2023 11:42

@sjpkgp1 erm, I need more info on the dead lion!

SophiaElise · 08/09/2023 11:50

Mine left: freestanding fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, dining table and chairs, wardrobes, garden furniture.

I renovated the house before I moved in and asked the builders to help themselves to whatever they wanted. Everything had found a new home at the end of the building work.

Was126orbustandmaybebust · 08/09/2023 11:52

Here's a cheerful one.
When we bought our first flat and had nothing really ( think portable TV on top of empty wooden wine box and two directors chairs as our entire sitting room and dining room furniture!) we opened the shed at the end of the garden to find lots of things and among them two chests of drawers. I rang the vendor and he offered to send a cheque for £50 for us to dispose of everything (1993 so no mobiles/email addresses really)
I said no to the money as I had assumed they would want them - we were delighted.
One of the chest of drawers was beautiful - had the original makers plate inside the top drawer and beautiful porcelain handles. We treasured that chest and still have it 30 years on.

A leaf blower and other leaf collection paraphernalia. We found out why in the autumn🍁🍂

Salt blocks for the water softener we didn't know we had.

The window cleaner - he let himself into the back garden the day after we moved in, and I don't know who was more surprised! He's lovely though so I kept him on.

TheBitterBoy · 08/09/2023 12:00

In our previous house the vendors left a vintage iron sewing machine table (which my dad upcycled for me into a garden table), and a cheque for £150 as the built in dishwasher had sprung a leak between us agreeing the sale and moving in. They also left a very detailed letter explaining everything in the house, which was very helpful, except they failed to mention the electricity supply to the shed was via a standard electric cable buried barely half a centimeter under the lawn. We only discovered this when we had a tree guy drilling out a stump and it blew all the electrics in the house. We were extremely lucky he wasn't electrocuted.

YourWinter · 08/09/2023 12:06

A broken Mini on the lawn. TBF they had arranged for a guy to pick it up some weeks later.

Also a giant (brand new) bottle of Domestos.

LostMySocks · 08/09/2023 12:09

A set of home gym equipment in the cupboard under the stairs. Not my cup of tea (punch bag etc) so I popped it on the drive until I could get rid of it.
Later that day a woman came round with her early term son. He'd spotted it and wanted to know if i would sell it. I said they were welcome and could have it for free. His smile was worth it.

Elphame · 08/09/2023 12:10

Some props for a Cuprinol advertising shoot! We found them in one of the loft spaces some months after moving in

Royanne · 08/09/2023 12:20

We were so lucky. Our house had been previously tenanted and they'd not left it in a good state apparently, so the sellers refreshed it before putting on the market. Freshly painted throughout, new carpets in all bar one room, they had the oven professionally cleaned and even put on a new toilet seat! Spotlessly clean everywhere with a card and bottle of fizz in the kitchen.

Redlarge · 08/09/2023 12:22

A new orthopaedic mattress
Leather sofa
Dining table
Lamp
2 bottles of moet
2 bottles of whiskey and some glasses ha.

caringcarer · 08/09/2023 13:12

A load of old junk up in the loft. The house was left clean though.

When I bought our French holiday home the English sellers asked if we wanted any of the furniture. They were only selling because of divorce and the lady told us she loved the house and wished she could keep it but it had to be sold. It was decorated beautifully and she told us it had taken her 7 years to get it all done. We agreed we would buy 2 sofas, large coffee table dining room table and chairs and 2 four poster beds. I went out and bought a coffee maker, kettle, panini press, crockery, cutlery, glasses, diverts and pillows and crammed them into our car. We went to the Notaire to sign a contract and collect keys. We went straight over to the house and found they had left absolutely everything and 12 bottles of wine and a note telling us it was so expensive to get it all removed they hoped we would like to keep it but to email her if we did want it empty. They left duvets, covers, sheets, pillow cases for 7 beds including 2 sets for most of the rooms, chest of drawers, casserole dishes, set of knives, electric crepe maker, saucepans, expensive coffee machine, cutlery, crockery, towels and tea towels, washing machine/dryer, fridge freezer, a cot, 2 stair gates, baby buggy. We couldn't believe it. We emailed thank you and we knew she had not wanted to sell so offered her to stay for a week the following year when we wouldn't be there. She did and we're good friends now and she sometimes uses the house for a week or an odd weekend when it will be empty. She always buys us good wine when she leaves.

IclimbedSnowdon · 08/09/2023 15:45

A huge mummified rat in the loft!
A built in oven that was so filthy we ripped it out the following day. The kitchen cupboards were also dirty inside. I had to wash and disinfect before I could put anything away.
You stuck to the kitchen floor it was so dirty. I'll never forget the water I tipped away after washing it.
But they left a greenhouse, summer house, rotary airer, planted containers and several lovely statues/ornaments in the garden.

Enderunicorn · 08/09/2023 16:59

A giant glass and metal table (I thought it was so kind of them until I wanted to get rid of it myself. Triple wardrobe. They offered to leave their broken dishwasher as 'storage' but I declined.

sjpkgp1 · 09/09/2023 00:03

@Badgersbottoms Yes, I hope you are not eating your supper as it was not a full lion, but all of the pelt and the head, claws and all, it was very old, probably early 20th century, and not in good condition particularly. I hated it on sight, and all that it stood for, and left my husband to sort it. I found out much later that he put it in the loft !! and since then the loft has been completely covered by insulation which the installers just threw all over. I haven't thought about it in 25 years, but suspect it is still there. No-one goes in the loft now (not because there is a lion in there, but because we don't have a loft ladder).

Volterra · 09/09/2023 04:03

At our request an old table but they got the wrong one in the message via agent. However it is more handy than the one we asked for them to leave. Also a table tennis table that they asked if we wanted. I asked for the garden pots and there are some old garden tools which have been helpful washing line, couple of buckets and 2 bags of compost.

Also a couple of cheese plants I put for free on a local FB site and gained a new friend from the person who came to get one who I see regularly and has the same chronic condition as me.

This is so lovely!

our sellers left the house absolutely spotless, a bottle of Lanson champagne and flowers, along with useful information, and alarm and key safe codes. They later popped by when we were doing a major renovation to the house and have us all the plans etc for work which had been done previously, they’d come across them whilst sorting their late parents’ paperwork etc. It isn’t a massively old house (early 1960s) but it’s nice to know the back story and that it was a happy family home

WhatNoPeas · 09/09/2023 11:48

Does anyone have a link to the thread about things removed from your house?

SummerWillow · 09/09/2023 11:50

A blocked toilet

NaselHazel · 09/09/2023 11:54

We bought the white goods and some other items from a seller and the bastard took them anyway. They were agreed and itemised in the sale contract and paid for. When we asked for them back, he laughed and said “Sue me!” . We didn’t have the money for that and were £2k out of pocket, but we had the last laugh.

Seller was self employed annd worked in the media. Anyway, we found his VAT book and other financial information hidden above a cupboard that he forgot and left behind. I presume he knew he was missing them, but was stuck and couldn’t ask for them because he’d been so nasty to us.

The information clearly showed he’d been fiddling his tax returns. So we reported him to HMRC and sent in all the information to the tax man. He was taken to court.

SunflowersAndSmellyTrainers · 09/09/2023 11:55

Dog poop all over the garden and patio - looked like they'd not picked it up in weeks, if not months!

However, they did leave a nice bunch of flowers and bottle of prosecco, so ......

neilyoungismyhero · 09/09/2023 11:58

Curtains in every room. Range cooker - new, fridge freezer (large), fairly new. Tumble dryer, dishwasher.
Patio blinds.

Motnight · 09/09/2023 12:05

A cheap new built in oven (they insisted on taking their really lovely expensive one) which was fine but we realised that they had just put it in the space, not connected it or anything. I was annoyed, it could have fallen out and hurt someone.

A gas leak. The smell was fairly obvious.

But nothing compared to some of these posts!!
