This is a new build. What is in the bath, it is like a layer of greenish liquid?

Also the bathroom tiles should be landscape not portrait IMO.

How do you mow the grass under the steps?

There is space for an appliance in the kitchen but no plug socket.

£330,000 for a 2 up 2 down in Somerset, in a tiny village.

I hate this house, it makes me irrationally cross!

I am house hunting in the area, I will not be viewing it!

Oh no sorry.

ThatsMsAtomicBob · 03/08/2023 22:13

The grass wouldn't grow with that little light, it would just be moss.

strawberry2017 · 03/08/2023 22:18

I don't like the stairs down from the living room to the kitchen.

Talking about annoying things- this house has recently been built near me and the island in the kitchen INFURIATES me because I feel like it's the wrong way round and completely ruins the whole layout!

That bath looks full of wee to me.

You’re absolutely right - that is a rubbish island.

DarkModeDear · 03/08/2023 22:24

At least it's not 80% grey which is what too many developers near me are still doing. They make me depressed.

At least you can paint walls. I can’t believe developers are still putting grey kitchens in.

There was one near me recently. Grey windows, grey kitchen, grey bathroom, grey carpet. So bloody nasty. Oh, and AstroTurf!

My first thought was that the contractors we weeing in it, but why would you leave the plug in!

Sludge coloured kitchen and horrible bathroom tiles plus the telegraph pole are awful.

PriamFarrl · 03/08/2023 23:07

It’s water in the bath. My guess is that they have put water in while the sealant dries. If they are only just doing that then there is a good chance the bath was dusty so the water is a bit dirty.

Laughingravy · 04/08/2023 01:18

GiraffeDoor · 03/08/2023 21:15

What about the telegraph pole in the back garden?!

That looks more like a DP for mains electricity - cables way to thick for telephone wire. So even less appealing.

Melony75 · 04/08/2023 03:39

It seems very gloomy as if the ceilings are too low.

C4tastrophe · 04/08/2023 05:04

Wardrobes with those ceilings?
Biggest issue for me is the toilet/sink placement.
How are you supposed to use a mirror there?
Why not swap them so you can have a lit bathroom cabinet above the sink?
And where do you put all your toiletries?

Mooserp · 04/08/2023 07:44

Agree with all your comments OP. Horribly designed house and feels like it's all been done very cheaply.

The badly placed island is even worse!

Janieforever · 04/08/2023 07:47

The bath has just been sealed. Hence the water in it, that’s how you do it, to weigh it down.

BigGreen · 04/08/2023 08:12

It's just so crazily expensive! Property in this country is completely mad.

You can get grey astroturf now too, sounds like they missed a trick there!

Qilin · 04/08/2023 10:07

I assume the bath is full of water to make sure it's fully settled in place. As it's a new build the first water through is probably a bit discoloured but that will clear after a few runs, before anyone moved in. If having a new bath you are always supposed to fill it with water and leave it for a good 24 hours afterwards - it's about making sure the bath is set in the right place, etc.

Under the counter there is likely a plug socked near the floor, possibly not in shot. I know several of our appliances are plugged in behind at the back of the cabinets/spaces. But yes, there isn't enough appliance space left for me.

The telegraph pole in the garden would be a complete no for me,

Qilin · 04/08/2023 10:08

I don't think it's artificial grass. When you zoom in you can see brown and thin patches, and the odd weed coming through.

That IS weird.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/08/2023 10:20

Ah , I was thinking it was a protective film on the bath in case any grout, dust or footprints landed .

(We bought IKEA wardrobes and they came in a blue sealed cover , I was Shock I didn't buy BLUE wardrobes but it was white -phew

If it's water/wee in the bath then I remove my commendation of their tidyness

GoodChat · 04/08/2023 10:27

The baths probably got water in it from when they sealed it so there was some pressure to hold it down

MermaidEyes · 04/08/2023 10:32

I can answer one question, the plug for the appliance will be under the sink. You have to cut away a square in the side of the counter and feed the plug through. Ours is like that. Horrible house though imo, not something I would buy for that money.

GameBoy · 04/08/2023 10:34

I think you're being unnecessarily mean to be honest - I don't think it's that bad. Empty new builds always look a bit soul-less tbh, but someone will buy that and turn it into a nice family home.

  • bathwater - may just be colour on the photo
  • kitchen appliance space and socket - may be out of view, and if not it's not a big deal to run a cable through a small hole behind the sink cabinet?
  • Grass doesn't go far under the steps and could be cut with a strimmer
  • Agree, the telegraph pole isn't great, but that has probably already been priced into the asking price?

Other things people are griping about are things you'd expect to do in a new house e.g. put up curtains/shelves/bathroom cabinets...

XVGN · 04/08/2023 11:19

I'm flippin' annoyed that builders/developers are not required to build homes ready fitted with solar panels, batteries, chargers, triple-glazing, ASHP's, etc. The govt are useless at moving the dial on climate-change, and I doubt that Labour would be better.
