Which would you give up? Tumble Dryer or Proper Freezer

So we only have enough room in our little flat for either a Tumble Dryer or a Proper sized Freezer.

If we have a Tumble dryer, we will have a fridge with two shelves for a freezer at the top. If we go without the Tumble dryer we can have a full sized fridge and full sized freezer. Of course we could get a washer dryer, but have always found the dryers to be lacking.

Which would you go for?

Tumble dryer. No contest.

I'd keep the freezer.

I would generally agree to keep the tumble dryer but we didn't have room for separate washer and drier so got a combined. It dries my washing fantastically well, so that works for me.

Tumbler dryer changed my life. When it breaks I hate it because I find sitting amongst drying clothes hanging around really grim, they start to smell, and the fluffiness they come out of the tumbler dryer in is unmatched.

Freezer I could live without. It wouldn't be too fun as my daughter would have nowhere to store her ice creams, but that would be the only issue as you can j buy fridge stuff instead. It’s a shopping adjustment whereas without a tumbler dryer I feel like I'm living back in shared accommodation.

If someone flush without closing the lid then absolutely this happens! Where the spray gets depends on the layout and size of your bathroom but a lot of toothbrushes must be pretty gross if you think about it. When we redid our bathrooms we went for wall hung toilets and positioned the flush low so you can’t actually flush them without closing the lid.

And that's why we put the lid down to flush. As should everyone be doing.

Heated airer - folds flat when not in use - might be a good compromise, as you won't need it up so long?

Calmdown14 · 27/07/2023 13:26

Is there outside drying space you can use?

Could you get a heater airer and put it somewhere well ventilated? It would speed up drying time and doesn't need to be out all the time.

Or we used to have the kind that go over a bath so it wasn't in the way anywhere else.

I had same dilemma in house over second under counter freezer or tumble dryer. We went for freezer and as rural family very glad we did. We have a half size tumble dryer in the shed. It's not massive but very effective. Anywhere else near a window it could go with a co er when not in use?

The amount of peoples houses I go into and the seat is down but the lid is up though. It only takes one icky guest and blergh toilet germs all over the washing! I also just don’t know where I’d even get an airer in my bathroom except mounted over the tub and that would annoying if you want to shower but clothes aren’t dry yet. I still vote freezer though. I’ve always found washer dryer combos work really well so long as you don’t exceed the drying capacity which means doing half loads if you want to dry everything. For 2 adults no kids that shouldn’t be a problem.

I'd have the freezer. I know there is always something for a quick dinner if needed and it reduces food waste bg freezing leftovers, bread, milk etc.

We've never had a tumble drier. We do heat our home a fair bit though so clothes don't take ages to dry.

No it's a small flat, so we only have one drying rack, which I hate having out. No space to stack washer on top of dryer as the space is under the work surface.

Can you get one of those heated drying racks, with a cover to speed up drying? I've often seen them recommended on MN - from Lakeland I think?

I'd have a proper sized fridge freezer as well. 🌹

I'd get the freezer and a washer dryer. The drying function is not as good as a dedicated dryer, but it's better than nothing - and you can always air dry to finsih off.

Freezer space is a must, for me.
