Has anybody had a recent(ish) full rewire quote which they wouldn't mind sharing? And house size.

TIA

I've had a 2 bed terrace full rewire including a new fuse box and it cost me just shy of £5k (west wales)

Pinkplasticbathcup · 22/05/2023 19:04

3 bed terrace, south east, 7k

CellophaneFlower · 22/05/2023 19:18

Lovely, thanks both. Did you stay whilst it was done? Realise it's going to be a nightmare, just wondering if people manage to!

Mine is being renovated in full so not in there yet, I think the rewire was very messy!

I'm waiting on 2 quotes from 1 electrician, 1 with me here and 1 with me not. So I'll be paying extra to live through the mess 🙈

1920s 4 bed det in NW England, 8 grand initially + another 2ish for a part that had to wait for other reasons. But we did have to have the consumer unit moved a long way through the house, a big cost, due to awkward route and having to have an extra main fuse and armoured cable, etc.. And it included a lot of points, spurs for various things, some in reserve for the future for underfloor heating etc., and patching up the plaster. 8k bit just before covid, 2k during- copper had gone up a lot in the time between so the cables etc were a lot more expensive.

Pinkplasticbathcup · 22/05/2023 21:23

No we hadn’t moved in yet. The half arsed plastering job afterwards was also a pain. We ended up having to sand it smooth ourselves and it’s still not really finished two years later

parietal · 22/05/2023 21:55

how old is the existing wiring? we moved into a house that was a complete fixer-upper, but the builder/electrician told us we didn't need to do a full re-wire, just a new fuse box and extensive testing. saved a lot of money and mess.

WednesdaysPlaits · 22/05/2023 22:00

£10k in 2021 large five bed detached without the replastering. It was hell. Don’t try to live through it. You will need to then add on the cost of plastering, putting back skirting boards, redecoration, repatching of floorboards, refitting carpets etc

This.

Lots of people mistakenly think they need a full rewire when they don’t.

2019, three bed, ancient wiring in house was £2.7k. Did in the school hols. Wished I'd factored in a holiday into the budget, it was a hard two weeks.

4 bed semi 1200sq ft £3500 - 2019 Yorkshire

It hasn't been updated since the 60's, when it was built. It does have a modernish consumer unit, but apparently even that's been bodged. Nothing is earthed. The annoying thing is, the house was previously owned by a firefighter. Perhaps he wasn't bothered about the potential risk, as knew he could put out any fires quickly 🤷

Wow, wish my quote was similar to that. I'd be able to have a lovely holiday 😭 I realise it was a while ago, but it seems so cheap!

£5.5K, 3 bed semi. We did it when we bought the house so it was empty. No way in hell could we have lived in it. Holes in the walls, carpets up, dust. Would probably have cost more had we been in the house as they'd have had to factor in making good enough to switch on overnight, keep fridge running, move and work around furniture etc which would have added time and difficulty.

OctaviaPole · 23/05/2023 00:49

Partial rewire in a large house 3000square feet cost £6k DH who works from home had some tricky days with noise and powercuts usually timed to coincide with important meetings. He said 5 minutes after they arrived it looked awful everywhere with them chiseling plaster off. But by the time I was home they had properly cleared up. Plasterer on the other hand was awful and very messy.

Cheeriosaddict · 23/05/2023 09:15

Full rewire end of 2022 in a 4 bed house cost £7k ,North West. I cannot imagine trying to live in it and certainly not if you have kids.
We hired a larger company so could have gotten a cheaper quote but it was much quicker than an individual electrician.

Fedupofdiets · 23/05/2023 09:35

I had a full rewire done in a 3 bed 1930s semi that had never been updated. This was in 2019 West Mids and cost 6.5k all in so I would expect around 7.5k these days.

Large 6 bed Victorian semi in Yorkshire - £15k

hiccup88 · 23/05/2023 15:08

SW London: £7.5k full rewire of 3-bed detached

DibbleDooDah · 23/05/2023 15:12

Full rewire (total replacement of everything) of three bedroom bungalow last June -£5k (but bungalows are cheaper as they are only on one level).

The replastering was a couple of grand on top of that. It’s worth having the walls chased out as opposed to using the plastic trunking that sticks to your walls though.

Forgot to mention this was done in Feb 2023, so pretty recent.

CellophaneFlower · 31/05/2023 17:06

Got the quote. It's a 4 bed semi, not huge though. £10,200 or a whopping £13,200 if occupied, so I'm assuming he doesn't want to do it if I'm there.

We are on outskirts of London, but seems steep to me. Will get more quotes 😫

Did this include VAT? Sounds far more reasonable than mine! Was it empty?

Just to add, if anybody is in the Havering area and has had a better quote, please do share!
