Everhot electric stoves

We moved into a new house recently and it is a cold one! No insulation, single pane windows...utility bills have been sky high!

Small radiators in all rooms. We are going to insulate when we can but I am thinking of other options to tide us over. Honestly it is freezing inside - at the moment it is warmer outside than in!

Thinking of getting an Everhot electric stove for the bedroom (sorry don't know how to do links). I have fantasies of it being all snug and cosy. Does anyone have one? Would you recommend it?

I have one and I love it.

it’s in our downstairs kitchen/diner which is too cold and the radiators there are last on the ‘loop’ for the heating.

We’ve only had it a few weeks and it barely causes the smart meter to move from green to amber.

We will use it loads next winter - the mini oven inside it is an inspired idea - great for heating up potatoes or casserole or similar.

These?
I have it in sage
if you have chance go to a showroom to see one first - I did and came back with it in the boot of my car but they are heavy!

We could keep a store of food to warm up so we have snacks in bed!

Good to hear it doesn't guzzle electricity

What colour did you get?

Yes one of these! We are going to a showroom this weekend to check them out. They aren't cheap but they are cheaper than getting all our windows double glazed!

How much heat do they put out?

Snorkers · 26/04/2023 20:04

According to their website, even on my cheap night rate economy 7 they'd take £15 a night of electric, over £400 a month!

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:06

@user4750
1.5kw on full power - and the inside oven is around 200 degrees once warmed up. As a rough guide it feels the same to me (heat wise ) as a medium radiator.

it was a little larger than I anticipated (in a good way)

They are fairly maintenance free - just plug in

i am delighted with ours it means we can have gentle heat downstairs when we have visitors without the heating being on (upstairs was 23 degrees and the dining room barely above 17-18)

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:07

@Snorkers
that doesn’t sound right. They have an internal thermostat which clicks on and off they are definitely not using all that power (well mine isn’t). Are you maybe looking at the figures for the range cooker?

That’s surely for the cooker. I have an Everhot range and it costs about £15 a day to run

Snorkers · 26/04/2023 20:11

Ohhh! There is a stove? I thout you meant the cooker/stove - I just saw there is a little dinky heater-cooker thing that you are talking about. Sorry

Wow that's great isn't it!?

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:13

Very rough calculation using Octopus energy price (33.95 p kw averaged out across regions)

so assuming the stove is on constantly on full power (which it wouldn’t be as the thermostat would click on and off) and also you wouldn’t need it on full…
that would be maximum 51p per hour.

absolute maximum £4.08 for 8 hours but in reality in my house and using my smart meter I’d say it’s about £1/£1.50 for 4 - 6 hours.
and it we use the oven then that is no extra cost so win-win for our lifestyle.

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:14

@Snorkers it’s amazing I rave about mine.
Particularly as gas prices have been so terrible Smile

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:16

@user4750
you have the range - oh I’d love the range.
What colour?
Is the £15 with it being in eco mood overnight?

user4750 · 26/04/2023 20:21

I have the 150i. It’s very pretty but costs a fortune to run even using eco mode.

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:23

Oh I bet it’s great - I never heard of Everhot until a few months ago when I was just browsing on here!

Snorkers · 26/04/2023 20:28

This is acually amazing. We're in a place that's off the gas grid and previous owners put LPG in - still extortionate. I need a little heater for my office when I WFH 3 days a week - this is perfect! AND I can cook my lunch in it. I really wis I hadn't seen this thread 😆

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/04/2023 20:28

That's more money than sense. Sure, it's very cute but it's £1.5k to buy!

I'm sure you can find a cheaper way to heat your bedroom. Meantime you can upgrade a couple of radiators or windows.

frostbittenfingers · 26/04/2023 20:28

This is good on the cost front! Love the thought of it pumping away next to me at night. Currently sleeping fully clothed (including an oodie) and trying to get the dogs on the bed as hot water bottles

I’d never buy one again and I never recommend it. In fact I positively try to dissuade people. It looks good but the running cost is just crazy. We have solar. If you don’t then it can’t possibly be worth it for most people.

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:39

@Snorkers
Just don’t go to the showroom unless you really want one or are very strong willed!
I rarely buy anything on a whim, I did look at lots of options but the oven was definitely a selling point and also it is a good focal point for our fairly plain kitchen.

The range of colours will suck you in…

onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 20:41

@user4750 - yes for the range the running cost is high.
Thank goodness you have solar.

CC4712 · 26/04/2023 21:11

I'd never heard of an everhot until yesterday, when I saw one in Sarah Beeneys house and wondered what it was. I have an aga, so was looking up the differences between the 2.

OP- do you have a gas supply or only electricity? Could you have underfloor heating put in instead? It would be far more economical as far as I know.

frostbittenfingers · 26/04/2023 21:34

Have both. Weirdly the gas is way mor expensive than the electricity. Some bills were over £1k a month this winter and we only had the heating on a couple of hours a day.

Once we have saved a bit we are going to make bigger changes to the house like sort out the windows and the very old heating system but until then I just want to go to bed and not see my breath at night. Why is my house still so cold when it is getting warmer outside?!!

OP posts:
onepieceoflollipop · 26/04/2023 21:37

OP what colour are you looking at? (I’m over invested now!)

frostbittenfingers · 26/04/2023 21:47

Need to see them in person but we have more of a blue theme so I am thinking cream or grey if it's not too grey!

I love the pink but DH wanted black and I felt the gap was too wide to bridge!
