i do like it as a wall colour but it’s everywhere. What else is a good neutral? Is Magnolia coming back?!

I think beiges are back, but called something different so it feels new - basically neutral but warm

DramaAlpaca · 20/03/2023 23:37

Shades of green, according to an article I read today in The Telegraph.

Rachaelrachael · 20/03/2023 23:39

Farrow and ball skimming stone, strong white and dulux summer linen are my favourite neutrals

Findyourneutralspace · 21/03/2023 00:18

Ivory colours are lovely and you can use grey with them. Grey walls are a bit drab to me these days.

I also like F&B skimming stone and Dulux Mellow Mocha

White or..
Green - from sea water to murky pond water, khaki, rainy day to duck egg green. Dark or just a hint.
Deep very dark greyish blue can also work well as a neutral in some rooms.

Dark colours aren't neutral! Neutral means muted shades with not much colour in them.

Whatever you like, why go for trends which go out of fashion quickly, instigated by manufacturers trying to flog their brand!

redspottedmug · 21/03/2023 07:41

Skimming stone is a good beige neutral - magnolia looks very yellow next to it.
Or a light cream is fresh.

Advancedpie · 21/03/2023 08:13

Not magnolia. I prefer one of the Mylands mineral colours.

Roselilly36 · 21/03/2023 08:15

Not keen on Magnolia, to me it looks dingy, Dulux Natural Hessian is a nice, neutral warmer than Magnolia and looks lovely in any light.

cocksstrideintheevening · 21/03/2023 08:16

We've just gone for a very light sage green in our living room

DESGUSTING · 21/03/2023 08:17

We've recently used F&B Ammonite

CellophaneFlower · 21/03/2023 09:14

There are thousands of neutrals these days so I doubt magnolia will ever make a comeback! It used to be the only alternative to white, that's the only reason it was popular for so long.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 21/03/2023 09:23

Just use whatever you like. Most homes are really boring now, or at least the ones on Rightmove.

TizerorFizz · 21/03/2023 09:23

@Railwayroad
I think far too many people used hard steely greys. Warmer tones such as Elephants Breath by F&B have a very different ambience. I think there’s a move to pastel colours this summer. So pale blue and cream. Pale sage. Warmer pale pinks. Stone and stronger beiges and earth colours. All look new and fresh.

Railwayroad · 21/03/2023 10:45

There is so much choice…it hurts my head 😂

OP posts:
Twinsplusonemum · 21/03/2023 12:43

Can anyone recommend a pale sage? I’ve been trying to find the right pale green/grey (with hints of blue?) and I can’t get it right. I quite like Dulux’s tranquil dawn but want something paler. Needs to be dulux, crown or similar as I don’t want to pay Farrow&Ball prices!

Railwayroad · 21/03/2023 12:45

Pick a F and B colour then get it mixed by Decorating Centre?

I have used this shade of green and it's absolutely stunning!

We're working through the whole house slowly, and painting everything white. I love it. It's fresh and clean looking, goes with any furniture/curtains/artwork/ornaments etc, and shows them off nicely. Wish we'd done it years ago.

SiobhanSharpe · 21/03/2023 12:50

I like Dulux just walnut, it's a warm neutral that is very versatile, and is a sort of a greige colour with more earthy tones than just grey .(which has surely had its day by now!)

soffa · 21/03/2023 13:03

pink is the new grey but beiges are coming back

TizerorFizz · 21/03/2023 13:14

@Twinsplusonemum Look at French Gray or Pidgeon by F&B. Don’t buy copies. You can get harder wearing emulsion from them. You get a great depth of colour.

Disagree, I think pink as an accent may be fashionable but certainly not the neutral basis for walls of a whole house, would never consider pink as a neutral. All the instagram influencers houses are now all completely beige if that helps! very samey but it’s ‘of the moment’ so no doubt will soon be passé!

soffa · 21/03/2023 14:00

I meant is in the colour of the moment eg pink bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, kitchens just as grey was popular in those rooms.

Beige is very much as pink was last yr or so but like all trends takes a while to filter through. The problem with insta/influencers is that it does tend to kill trends as soon as they start!
