Selling our house, we’ve got a shower room downstairs but no shower upstairs, only a bath as couldn’t put one in due to the configuration of the house.

would that put you off?

Yes. Were you not even able to install a shower in the bath?

YourWinter · 07/03/2023 20:31

Can’t you just change the bath taps to a shower mixer?
But no, it wouldn’t put me off because that is such an easy thing to change.

User18695438 · 07/03/2023 20:32

Could you put a shower over the bath, if so, no problem.

Chiikichik · 07/03/2023 20:40

no we couldn’t put one in due to the plumbing configuration and there is a window above the bath and it can’t go against any other wall IYSWIM

Is it a house where you would expect a shower upstairs, many older terrace have bathrooms downstairs and people buy those, yours does have a bathroom upstairs just not the shower, a lot depends on size and type of house and who it would be marketed to

Mondy · 07/03/2023 20:46

So long as there's a shower somewhere (which there is) I'd be fine.

Miscellaneousme · 07/03/2023 20:47

No not at all, wouldn’t put me off at all, better to have 2 bathrooms! Handy being able to shower without disturbing people if early/late etc.

SnowAndFrostOutside · 07/03/2023 20:49

Yes because I don’t bath. Neither does DH. We only use the shower and it’s very annoying to not have a shower upstairs. But there must be people who don’t like showers.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 07/03/2023 20:52

I would most likely rip the bath out and install a wet room so wouldn't bother me. Baths are expensive and wasteful.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 07/03/2023 20:52

No. In fact was what made us buy this house (and own parking) a that’s exactly what it has. It is utterly heaven.

If you want a quiet, leisurely bath /pamper session we can go upstairs away from noise/doorbells/each other.
If dashing in from work/garden/diy and desperately need a quick shower, even in the middle of the night, we can do so straight away and not wake the neighbours.

Fabellini · 07/03/2023 20:52

It wouldn’t put me off, but I’d suggest changing bath taps to a shower mixer tap - that would give a kind of illusion of a shower iykwim, and would also make hair washing etc easier.

Aquamarine1029 · 07/03/2023 20:53

Yes, it would massively put me off.

WimpoleHat · 07/03/2023 20:56

Wouldn’t bother me. We stayed in a holiday cottage without an upstairs bathroom and I didn’t like that much. But I’ve upstairs and one downstairs sounds fine to me.

WimpoleHat · 07/03/2023 20:56

one upstairs, I meant!

twinmum2022 · 07/03/2023 20:58

Depends how much you've got the house up for. Not a deal breaker but I'd be offering below asking to account for installing a shower upstairs I think. (If not already accounted for on sale value).

Nellieinthebarn · 07/03/2023 21:05

I would want a shower mixer for rinsing my hair and cleaning the bath, but having a downstairs shower would be a selling point for me to wash the dogs feet off.

carriedout · 07/03/2023 21:07

It's fine. It might put off some people, but almost every house has something that would put off a few people. There is only an issue if there is something really off-putting with a house that makes it so everyone strikes it off immediately.
I swore I wouldn't buy a house without a second bathroom but when it came to it this house was better than all the others in other ways. I'll just have to (eventually) fit one.
Most buyers are willing to compromise somewhere, really, in a market of inadequate supply.

Snugglemonkey · 07/03/2023 21:10

Yes, if I could not fix it. I would want more than one shower and would definitely want one upstairs.

BreadInCaptivity · 07/03/2023 21:12

It would be nice to have one upstairs but I'm not convinced it's a deal breaker for everyone.

Of course some people may be put off, but others might think it's ideal - for example if you work in trade where you get dirty/messy, then not having to traipse upstairs in your work clothing/strip off downstairs before accessing an upstairs shower might be a big bonus.

Tbh I can't remember when we last used our bath since the children are older - everyone uses the shower in the bath or en-suites. Most friends/family are the same (parents ripped the bath out of their en-suite for a large shower and whilst they still have a bath in the house bathroom it's never used).

So if I felt it was a major issue and the house was perfect otherwise I'd just rip out the bath an put a super luxe large shower in its place instead.

Put simply I don't think it will stop your house selling but it might limit your market a little bit, yet find the right buyer and they might love that set up.

evemillbank · 07/03/2023 21:13

Yes.

MarchingBand · 07/03/2023 21:15

Yes

RoseMartha · 07/03/2023 21:15

As long as you have a loo snd sink upstairs it would not put me off.

I am not keen on having to go downstairs in the middle of the night to use the loo. I know a lot of people have this though.

Anotheradventureforme · 07/03/2023 21:15

No, I'd love it.

But the responses are showing you that some people like that and some don't - so that's fine because it means there will be plenty of people who want to buy your house.

zorgoid · 07/03/2023 21:17

Yeah it would tbh. If I were single or in a couple no, but there are kids in the house and we all need privacy
