No shower upstairs - put you off?

Selling our house, we’ve got a shower room downstairs but no shower upstairs, only a bath as couldn’t put one in due to the configuration of the house.

would that put you off?

Yes totally and unless it’s a massive house with bedrooms downstairs, I don’t want folks traipsing up and down stairs to have a shower, and I don’t want to either.

Iloveenidblyton · 07/03/2023 21:20

No, wouldn’t bother me at all

Diyextension · 08/03/2023 13:56

We have a shower upstairs and downstairs, and I always use the downstairs one 🙂

GasPanic · 08/03/2023 14:40

For me shouldn't be too hard to add the mixer over the bath.

And I would rather have an electric shower downstairs and a mixer over the bath than two gas powered separate showers because then if the boiler goes tits up you always have more options.

Newusername21 · 08/03/2023 14:51

No - I currently live in a house with no upstairs bathroom at all. It's just something i've got used to.
Inevitably it will put a few people off I wouldn't worry too much. There will always be a buyer who is happy with current configuration - or is willing to change the current bath to suit them.

gogohmm · 08/03/2023 15:00

Yes, wouldn't buy unless the shower is on the same floor

crossstitchingnana · 08/03/2023 20:24

I have this set up. Love it. Two bathrooms, what's not to like? We have a shower head mixer tap in bathroom though, for a quick shower or to rinse hair. TMI but I am in it now. 🤣

crossstitchingnana · 08/03/2023 20:26

Oh and we have a big dog so I love being able to shower him off downstairs.

Barleysugar86 · 08/03/2023 20:26

My family are very much bath people. So wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

SoAndSoSaidSo · 08/03/2023 20:28

We only have one shower downstairs, anything upstairs would be plus.

Beebumble2 · 09/03/2023 14:24

It wouldn’t put me off as long as there was one elsewhere. I would put a mixer with shower attachment on the bath taps. Sometimes I just need to was my hair without getting into the shower and if the other shower is occupied it is possible to have a body shower while sitting in the bath.
Or is that just me being weird?

AliceTheeCamel · 09/03/2023 15:12

I wouldn't love it, but in itself it wouldn't be a deal breaker if it ticked lots of other boxes. Are any of the bedrooms downstairs?

Toomuchtrouble4me · 15/08/2023 21:40

So long as there’s a loo up and down and a shower somewhere, I’d be fine with that.

BCBird · 15/08/2023 21:47

It would not put me off in the slightest. Not having a toilet upstairs would be a definite deal breaker.

KievLoverTwo · 16/08/2023 06:58

No

We have two showers upstairs and use the downstairs one because the limescale on the glass upstairs is a nightmare.

I would be unlikely to buy a house with no loo upstairs though.

Chersfrozenface · 16/08/2023 09:29

I presume the bath is in a bathroom with a toilet and sink.

How many bedrooms? Are you aiming at least partly at families with small children? Because a bath on the same level as the bedrooms is much better for that market. An extra shower downstairs is a plus.

Underthelightofthefullmoon · 16/08/2023 09:33

I could understand people being put off by a downstairs bathroom, but where the shower is wouldn't matter at all to me. Easier to put clothes straight in the wash too.

mylittleprince · 16/08/2023 09:49

Wouldn't put me off as long as I could take the bath out to put a shower in. I wouldn't buy a house where that wasn't possible as haven't used out bath since the kids were tiny.

Having a downstairs shower room would be great with teenagers who seem to like having showers at midnight Hmm

Shadowboy · 16/08/2023 10:01

Ours is the same as yours! We have the shower downstairs. Other bathroom doesn’t have a shower. I thought I’d hate it - but I love it now- I can have late showers and not wake the kids. I can wash the dogs and not have dog wetness upstairs.

If I come in after getting soaked outside I can strip off all the muddy wet clothes downstairs- no laundry basket to drag around down from upstairs.

It works for us. I’m sure there’s always something in a house that can be off putting to a section of society but if the house is great on other ways- don’t sweat it.

ClematisBlue49 · 16/08/2023 10:11

It would put me off, unless I could see a way to create a bigger bathroom or add an ensuite upstairs, and then maybe turn the downstairs shower into an extra loo. But that's just me. If the rest of the house is attractive, I expect most potential buyers would get over it. I wouldn't spend money changing it now, unless you get no offers and the feedback suggests it is a major dealbreaker.

MitchellMummy · 16/08/2023 10:12

If everything else was good then it wouldn't put me off - it's rare that one doesn't need to compromise. I shower twice a day in summer - in winter one bath and one shower a day. Baths aren't wasteful if the Mumsnet shower times are anything to go by - up to half an hour!! I spend two minutes - or longer if it's a hairwash day!

GettingStuffed · 16/08/2023 20:01

No, it wouldn't, no bath would though. I only shower if I don't have time for a bath

Tumbleweed101 · 17/08/2023 18:30

No, I like shower for quick getting ready for work but love relaxing in a bath. A house without a bath would put me off more.

sillyuniforms · 17/08/2023 18:36

Chiikichik · 07/03/2023 20:40

no we couldn’t put one in due to the plumbing configuration and there is a window above the bath and it can’t go against any other wall IYSWIM

You can get over that by an internal false window installed to make it like a glass wall. Works

ReviewingTheSituation · 18/08/2023 12:55

I'd be factoring the cost of putting in a shower into my offer. There MUST be a way to configure the bathroom to get a shower over the bath somehow.

I couldn't be doing with the faff of going downstairs for a shower, esp if there was plumbing upstairs.
