Where to buy a really good loo?!

Daisies246 · 27/02/2023 12:27

Thought I'd start a new thread after my recent thread re looking for a rimless loo. Having read the replies on that, it sounds as though rimless might not be the best option! Definitely my top priority for a loo is that it flushes really well. My current one has a feeble flush and it's so annoying. I'd be super grateful for recommendations of where to buy a good, reliable loo!

I rate Roca bathroom fittings, always been excellent quality and have a certain style that I like.

LibertyLily · 27/02/2023 13:34

We usually buy Villeroy & Boch or Duravit toilets - both are great quality and have a good flush imho. In our current house we've got a contemporary Duravit toilet downstairs and in the main bathroom a vintage high level Chatsworth gothic style toilet that we found on ebay (new, not used!). Both flush really well.

I liked the Lusso Stone rimless wall hung toilet. Looked really nice and came with a flat flush plate in whatever finish you wanted, flushed well, not too expensive (I think about £500 for everything)

Victorian Plumbing

LibertyLily · 27/02/2023 16:02

I second Victorian Plumbing as a good place to start. Not Victoria Plum.

TheMagicDeckchair · 27/02/2023 16:22

We have a Grohe loo and it has an excellent flush. Would buy another!

Hongkongsuey · 27/02/2023 17:28

We have an Ideal Standard rimless wall hung. Geberit flush. Perfect.

Delphigirl · 27/02/2023 17:29

Duravit is always the answer

Yellownotblue · 27/02/2023 20:51

We have Toto washlets, they are great.

Daisies246 · 27/02/2023 21:11

Thank you very much for these replies - so helpful! Does anyone know what a good flush volume would be, please?! (A Grohe toilet I'm looking at says: "6/3 litre flush volume" - don't know whether that means 6 litres or 3 litres?!)

That's 3 litres for No 1s and 6 litres for No 2s.

PigletJohn · 27/02/2023 21:37

Twyfords is my favourite. Ideal Standard and Armitage Shanks also good.

These are established British manufacturers who know how to make a WC.

The unbranded or unfamiliar ones sold at budget prices are sometimes not.

Modern low-water WCs are notorious for a poor flush.

Some people are lucky enough to have old WCs, and wisely hang on to them.

shouldhavetakenmorenotice · 27/02/2023 21:39

Not Victoria plumbing or any of their mid price range. Complete junk. Cost me a fortune in time and effort replacing a loo, a loo seat, a set of taps.

PigletJohn · 27/02/2023 21:40

P.s.

Please don't wall it up or tile over it. You will be very sad when the wall has to be smashed open to mend or replace it.

Same as with showers.

VICTORIAN Plumbing...or Victoria PLUMB???

Imho, Victorian Plumbing = good
Victoria Plumb = not so good (wouldn't touch with the proverbial bargepole personally).

But, at the end of the day it usually comes down to buying decent, well known brands - not cheap Chinese shit.

PigletJohn · 27/02/2023 22:12

If you were buying a dishwasher, surely you would choose by manufacturer?

Not by retailer?

Daisies246 · 27/02/2023 22:19

Thank you so much for the replies. I've been searching the brands recommended, and these are my favourite loos that I've found so far! (The Duravit ones I found were all chunkier styles, which wouldn't fit in so well with my bathroom.) Grateful for any thoughts on these!

(I prefer the look of the Twyfords one, but like the fact that the Grohe is rimless.)

I'm also intrigued by the HygieneGlaze on this one (sounds amazing - a self-cleaning loo!), though less keen on the look of it. If anyone has experience of HygieneGlaze and whether it actually works, I'd be interested to hear!

You can also go to the websites of the manufacturers for the full range. If not in stock any plumbers merchant can order for you

CatsGinAndTwiglets · 27/02/2023 22:48

If you're a taller household I can recommend comfort height over normal height loos.

Daisies246 · 01/03/2023 08:22

@PigletJohn Thank you - good to know.

We have one of these in our downstairs bathroom, LOVE the rimless, so easy to clean, and also fully removable seat and lid. I can't remember what concealed cistern we have but it's mighty and refills almost instantly. But def agree to making it accessible!

Hullabaloo31 · 01/03/2023 12:21

It's a something Torrent cistern, bathroom fitter mate recommended!

Daisies246 · 02/03/2023 11:59

Thank you! I need a close coupled loo - I wonder whether any of those have Torrent cisterns, or whether those cisterns can only be bought separately. I'll look into it!

Just one word of warning. I have three toilets in my house. 1 is normal kind, and you can get a toilet seat for it for £20 if you want.

The others are non standard and replacement toilet seats are now about £200 each. Luckily I replaced them when I moved in for about £100 each, but they are pricey. They are great seats, you don't so much as sit on them as in them - they are very comfortable. But very expensive to replace. TBH it is almost worth knocking the toilets out rather than keeping them because of the seat issue.

Daisies246 · 02/03/2023 12:27

@GasPanic Thats really useful to know - thank you.
