Where to buy a really good loo?!

Thought I'd start a new thread after my recent thread re looking for a rimless loo. Having read the replies on that, it sounds as though rimless might not be the best option! Definitely my top priority for a loo is that it flushes really well. My current one has a feeble flush and it's so annoying. I'd be super grateful for recommendations of where to buy a good, reliable loo!

Try and get an old school loo.

I had one for the entire time I lived at my flat with no issues in 10+ years.

I had to replace in an emergency (long story) and the one they fitted is crap in comparison- it has blocked three times in the space of 18 months, I think as the hole(?) is so narrow on this one and when I flush it always leaves some tissue behind. Really don't like it

My main tip is to avoid the loos that have a “poo shelf” built in. In other words you want one with a smooth slope leading to the water rather than a horizontal bit then a slope. Apparently some nationalities like the shelf so they can examine their poos??

Anyway we have Villeroy & Boch Subway 2.0 loos - we have two of the Compact version which does not have the shelf and is space saving but still comfortable, highly recommended. And then we have one full size Subway which has the poo shelf and I do not recommend! They all flush well.

Loos labelled water saving are likely to have crap flushes. But will save you water.

Thank you so much - these tips are really helpful. I had no idea about poo shelves! Definitely want to avoid!!

We ordered all our bathroom fittings from a local bathroom store. I have several round me so got a few to do a quote once I knew all the things I wanted, and went with the cheapest.

P.s.

Please don't wall it up or tile over it. You will be very sad when the wall has to be smashed open to mend or replace it.

Same as with showers.

Does that rule out back to wall or those floating toilets? I like the look but was pondering the maintenance. How would you do it instead? <sorry for jumping on OP!>

We've got a rimless comfort height toilet, didn't think it was possible to like a toilet but I do. Purchased from leekes department stores if anyone in South Wales

Just warn you against buying so called “eco flush” models. TMI, but it wouldn’t move the sh.t. And it’s not because we are one of those who produce huge piles of such. Had to wait for 2-3 cistern refill to actually flush it down. Fed up and fit a new loo, with a good traditional flush volume, I think it was 6l…we use Victorian plumbing for all bathroom renovation

@TheBelmont we have wall hung loos with concealed cisterns. They have a large flush plate which doubles as an access hatch in case repairs are needed. We also have a shelf as the “lid” of the cistern box which is just held on with silicone sealant, so if more access is needed it’s easy to cut the silicone and remove the shelf.

TheBelmont · 03/03/2023 08:26

@minipie thank you! Very helpful. assume you can tile the front of the cistern box? How wide does the box unit need to be? Just enough to fit the cistern or add a bit of wriggle room for maneovering?

minipie · 03/03/2023 08:55

TheBelmont what we did was buy a pre made wall hung loo frame like this (Grohe and Geberit make them, among other brands). This is strong enough to hold the loo securely and also comes with a special cistern designed to fit inside. The builder then boxed the frame in. Yes we tiled the box in one bathroom though not in the others. Making the box wider won’t help with access because the metal frame is what restricts access anyway.

You don’t have to buy one of these metal frames, the builder can create a frame with wooden studs instead, but I find it more reassuring!!
