Gold sink and tap?

Does anyone have one? I'm thinking plain white kitchen with white worktops, gold finishes and spotlights with a gold tap. What colour sink though?
I'm going to put colour on the walls and accessorise to give it some life

Sorry, it's a no from me. Just like the brass taps of the late 80s, that's going to date really quickly. Best colour for a sink is white (or silver if metal). Also it'll make your washing up water constantly look dirty.

maddy68 · 23/02/2023 15:55

My friend has them but it clashes with her door handles which are silver

There’s a lovely curry house near me with something similar. I think it looks a bit Trumpish personally.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 23/02/2023 15:57

That will date within a year. But would go beautifully with this

Well not my cup of tea but if it makes you happy do it.

SunsetStrip · 23/02/2023 16:06

Oh well, I love it!

Your house only needs to please you.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 23/02/2023 16:10

When we moved into our house we had gold external door handles, gold internal door handles, gold window handles and gold taps... Over the last 4 years we have replaced all but 3 external door handles and they are due to go in the next few weeks. You've probably guessed that a gold sink is a no from me!

Lindy2 · 23/02/2023 16:12

I actually quite like it but I'd be a bit worried about tarnishing over time.

Also, if you ever needed a new tap which would probably be before needing a new sink, sourcing another suitable gold tap in years to come might be a bit tricky.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2023 16:14

IME gold finishes don't wear well, and then as pp said would be harder to get a matching replacement vs steel or chrome.

It's actually en trend to mix your metals. The interior designer on my last project did it and it looked quite good.

purplecorkheart · 23/02/2023 16:18

Not to my taste and I would worry they would looked dated very fast.

Shellingbynight · 23/02/2023 16:20

Like another poster I remember the 'gold' taps of the 1990s. I noticed on property programmes they seem to be making a comeback, but it's a no from me. I think they will date and I don't like the look anyway. In the 90s the sink choice was generally white ceramic.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 23/02/2023 16:27

Some of these replies have cracked me up 😂
For reference this is the sort of thing I like

Please make suggestions of what I should go for instead, white or stainless steel or black?

I'd hate to choose something that I went off quickly so I'll step away from gold maybe

I can't get trump out of my head now 😂 I think a matt black will look nice

My house has all brass internal door handles and I've not changed them. Mainly because of the expense, but they're also old, and I like old things. So, a brass sink would tenichially work in my house, but I like porcelain, also an unpopular choice! Obviously one doesn't want to be needlessly wasteful, but taps can be replaced, so you could give it a try?

HereIfYouNeedMe · 23/02/2023 16:35

Or something like this? Ignore the tap

I'm thinking of it as more of a statement in a plain kitchen, following a new trend I guess so it will date no doubt

Yes this is mine, did it last year! I love it. Do what makes you happy.

We went with white/marble and wooden cupboards with gold handles to match as well.

I think some replies here are not quite up to date with latest interior trends. @aw98989 that looks lovely. Love the lamps too.

However I do agree that it is very much a current trend and it could date quickly. On that basis I'd go for a white sink with the gold/brass taps. Then if (when) it does start to feel dated you only have to change the taps and handles.

This. I have a gold tap in the kitchen, only 18 months old and it already looks atrocious. It's got a plastic coating on it which let water in and is now flaking off. I would never get a gold tap again.

LibertyLily · 23/02/2023 17:04

That looks beautiful @aw98989

I'm firmly in the 'sod what's trendy, go with what you love' camp, so I'd embrace the gold if that's what makes your heart sing @HereIfYouNeedMe

We don't have gold in the kitchen - although when we did ours five years ago we did choose a very marmite articulated tap that cost £900 which makes me smile every day - but do have a gold tap from Gessi lined up ready to go in our downstairs cloakroom hopefully to be done this year.

It was purchased in 2015 so probably hopelessly dated already, but again we love it so I couldn't really care less!

Bluevelvetsofa · 23/02/2023 17:06

Those sinks look lovely, but they need a lot of water to fill. We had one in a new build and had to change it.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 23/02/2023 17:10

Love all of the advice, thank you! We bought our house 7 years ago as first time buyers and we haven't touched the falling apart monstronsity. So it has to be right now that I'm finally getting a new one!!
We have very similar tastes @aw98989 that looks so nice!
I like the idea of a white sink and changeable tap to make it easier

Also good to know about the bucket sinks! We're getting a dishwasher for the first time so hoping we won't need to use it as much? 😏
