3 wet patches?!

purpleme12 · 10/02/2023 19:06

We noticed this evening 3, what looked to be wet patches, on kitchen ceiling.
Two quite near and the other one further along, but in same line.
I touched them and it was only that actually was wet at that time.
The bathroom is above the kitchen.
Has anyone had this before?!
Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Do I call plumber?

Might be the WC cistern. Open the lid. Is it surprisingly full? Is water dripping or running into it? Put a bit of food colouring in if you have it.

What is on the other side of the wall at the wet end of the bath?

Is there a radiator?

Can't open it fully? But seems ok.

Yes radiator

Should I need the hole bigger?

Do you have emergency cover on your home insurance? If so use it. Do you have a local plumber you can call?

If you can't turn off your stop cock, are there any other ways to stop the water after it (like taps on the water pipes or those screwdriver operated valves)? I assume not. For the stop cock you could use a t towel around it to help grip.

As for the dripping water, is it slowing? Has there been lots come through? You need to try and figure out where is coming from and stop the source. Is the wet area in the bathroom getting drier now it's being drained or is it just as bad?

Look at any water carrying pipes in the bathroom or near the bathroom and see if any are leaking..

If you can't find a leak and you can't turn off the stop cock and the water isn't slowing down, then I don't know what to recommend. As for hole sized, I've used screwdrivers in the past, so holes have been a couple of centimeters.

Check at the back of your toilet to see if the waste pipe is leaking. Is the water coming out from under your tiles?

I'm going to have to drop off this conversation I'm afraid. I've been up since 3am and I'm really struggling to stay awake. Sorry. I hope you trace it and get it sorted.

Good luck OP.

Hi. 1cm is very little. I thought you'd got loads leaking .

If you can't find the leak and you can't turn off the water supply, then I think the only thing you can do is call a plumber. If the water stopped dropping then you might have got away with it until the morning , but if it's not, then it must still be leaking from somewhere still and that needs sorting out it could get worse.

FenghuangHoyan · 10/02/2023 23:43

Ps. I'm not a plumber. Just trying to help. I've had leaks myself, so know how scary they are. You will get it fixed.

FenghuangHoyan · 10/02/2023 23:44

Now I really am going, can't keep my eyes open.

caringcarer · 10/02/2023 23:45

OP, you do t have to find leak. Plummer will do that for you and fix. Just don't use bath until you get a Plummer.
